No full textRelacje między historiografią a poezją i retoryką (później literaturą) od dawna były przedmiotem refleksji teoretycznej. Odpowiedzi były różne, w zależności od zmieniającej się praktyki i teorii tych dziedzin, a także od wyboru stanowiska - opisowego bądź normatywnego. Zarazem jednak można dostrzec tożsamość czy podobieństwa poglądów oddzielonych od siebie nieraz wielowiekową odległością. Artykuł omawia te odpowiedzi kolejno w aspektach narracyjności, celów poznawczych i estetycznych, obiektywizmu i subiektywizmu, prawdy i fikcji, asercji i jej braku, wiedzy szczegółowej i ogólnej, przypadkowości i istotności, oglądowości, cech konstrukcyjnych i stylistycznych występujących w tekstach historycznych i literackich. Szczegółowo przedyskutowane zostały poglądy Haydena White’a i Franklina Rudolfa Ankersmita. W konkluzji autor przyłącza się do opinii Krzysztofa Pomiana, że nieusuwalnym składnikiem historiografii jest dowód dla twierdzeń orzekających o tym, co badacz uważa za fakty - i w tym właśnie miejscu przebiega granica między historiografią a literaturą.Relationship between historiography and poetry and rhetoric (later literature) has long been a subject of theoretical reflection. The approaches to this issue varied according to the changing theory and practice of those disciplines, and of the choice of a descriptive or a normative attitude. At the same time one notices a sameness or a similarity of those views divided by a centuries-long distance. The article examines the modes of narration, cognitive and aesthetic goals, objectivism and subjectivism, truth and fiction, assertion and the lack of assertion, general and singular knowledge, casualness and essence, similar and different constructive and stylistic features of historical and literary texts. The views of Hayden White and Franklin Rudolf Ankersmit are accurately discussed. In conclusion, the author favors Krzysztof Pomian’s view that the indispensable element of historiography is the evidence of what the author treats as factual, and this is the borderline between historiography and literature

Ukazuje, że autorzy ci, po pierwsze, wąsko traktują humanistykę ograniczając ja do dyscyplin zajmujących się literatura i sztuką (z pominięciem np. historii czy językoznawstwa). Po drugie - uzasadniają oni tylko użyteczność kształcenia humanistycznego na uniwersytetach, nie zaś humanistyki jako działalności badawczej poszerzającej wiedzę o pewnych dziedzinach kultury.In his essay, the author discusses the opinions of Western intellectuals and of Michał Paweł Markowski presented in the latter’s article entitled "Humanistyka:niedokończony projekt" ("Humanities: an Unfinished Project") ("Teksty Drugie" 2011 n° 6). He claims that firstly these authors limit the meaning of the humanities to the disciplines dealing with literature and art solely (excluding history or linguistics, among others). Secondly - they justify only the usefulness of the humanistic university education, and not of the humanities as a research activity expanding the knowledge of certain areas of culture

No full textThe article is a peculiar ‘record of interpretative failures’ in analysis of Czesław Miłosz’s Traktat moralny [‘The Moral Treaty’]. The author points out to some details of the poem proving extremely hard to interpret, and makes an attempt at explaining them, supporting himself to this end by Miłosz’s own commentaries to the text, which he has found in the poet’s letters to the philosopher Tadeusz Kroński and in his recorded conversations with Renata Gorczyńska, and, with Aleksander Fiut and Andrzej Franaszek. The author’s indication of certain unclear points and instances of contradictoriness in the Treaty’s text offers aspecific incentive for the reader to focus not only on what the text can offer them but also, on what is apparently incomprehensible in it
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
