Pais, « child » and « slave »
Pais, « child » and « slave ». On the masses and evolutionary status of the black hole binary GX 339-4: a twin system of XTE J1550-564?
We apply the K-correction to the black hole low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) GX 339-4 which implies MX? 6 M? by only assuming that the companion is more massive than ?0.17 M?, the lower limit allowed by applying a ‘stripped-giant’ model. This evolutionary model successfully reproduces the observed properties of the system. We obtain a maximum mass for the companion of M2? 1.1 M? and an upper limit to the mass ratio of q(=M2/MX) ? 0.125. The high X-ray activity displayed by the source suggests a relatively large mass transfer rate which, according to the model, results in M2? 0.3 M? and MX? 7 M?. We have also applied this scenario to the black hole binary XTE J1550-564, which has a similar orbital period but the donor is detected spectroscopically. The model successfully reproduces the observed stellar parameter
all’universo dei soci Milan IN.
under 25 e over 70

An alternative Hamiltonian formulation for the Pais–Uhlenbeck oscillator
AbstractOstrogradsky's method allows one to construct Hamiltonian formulation for a higher derivative system. An application of this approach to the Pais–Uhlenbeck oscillator yields the Hamiltonian which is unbounded from below. This leads to the ghost problem in quantum theory. In order to avoid this nasty feature, the technique previously developed in [7] is used to construct an alternative Hamiltonian formulation for the multidimensional Pais–Uhlenbeck oscillator of arbitrary even order with distinct frequencies of oscillation. This construction is also generalized to the case of an N=2 supersymmetric Pais–Uhlenbeck oscillator
The odd-order Pais–Uhlenbeck oscillator
AbstractWe consider a Hamiltonian formulation of the (2n+1)-order generalization of the Pais–Uhlenbeck oscillator with distinct frequencies of oscillation. This system is invariant under time translations. However, the corresponding Noether integral of motion is unbounded from below and can be presented as a direct sum of 2n one-dimensional harmonic oscillators with an alternating sign. If this integral of motion plays a role of a Hamiltonian, a quantum theory of the Pais–Uhlenbeck oscillator faces a ghost problem. We construct an alternative canonical formulation for the system under study to avoid this nasty feature

The present Work of Conclusion of Course with the theme "Parent-Teacher Meetings: A Means for Parent Involvement in School", brings in its content elements present in the literature on family and school relationship; the analysis of a questionnaire applicated to seven teachers and school’s principal at initial years of elementary school, and the report of the observation of a parents' meeting that happened to a class of 3rd year of elementary school in a municipal school in Curitiba. From these investigations, we knew how the teachers understand the presence of the parents in the school, how the school invites the parents to go to the meetings, how the meetings works and what attracts the parents to the school, besides identifying some characteristics of the interaction between family and school. By finding little specific reference to the theme parent meeting, it was the family school interaction (Author investigations like Bhering, Chapadeiro & Lima and Polonia & Dessen and "Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional de 1996" : LDB policy of 1996), which is a broad and well researched topic and focused within the family-school relationship the subject about parent-teacher meetings at school
