Well-known trade mark protection: confusion in EU and Japan
In this thesis concerning the protection of well-known trade marks against confusion in the European Community Trade Mark (CTM) and Japanese trademark systems, the author critically considers the difficulties in comprehensively defining ‘well-known trade mark’ in the relevant international trade mark instruments. After critical analysis of various definitions of both ‘trade mark’ and ‘well-known trade mark’, she undertakes a comparison of the definitions of the parallel concepts of ‘trade mark of repute’ and ‘syuchi-syohyo’, and also undertakes an assessment as to the extent to which these trade marks are protected against confusion and kondo in the CTM and Japanese systems, respectively. It is concluded that the protection of well- known trade marks against confusion in the CTM and Japan cannot be said to be completely clear, and the author identifies some areas for legal refor
A middleware for a large array of cameras
Large arrays of cameras are increasingly being employed for producing high quality image sequences needed for motion analysis research. This leads to the logistical problem with coordination and control of a large number of cameras. In this paper, we used a lightweight multi-agent system for coordinating such camera arrays. The agent framework provides more than a remote sensor access API. It allows reconfigurable and transparent access to cameras, as well as software agents capable of intelligent processing. Furthermore, it eases maintenance by encouraging code reuse. Additionally, our agent system includes an automatic discovery mechanism at startup, and multiple language bindings. Performance tests showed the lightweight nature of the framework while validating its correctness and scalability. Two different camera agents were implemented to provide access to a large array of distributed cameras. Correct operation of these camera agents was confirmed via several image processing agents

Thomas Middleton and the Plural Politics of Jacobean Drama represents the first sustained study of Middleton\u27s dramatic works as responses to James I\u27s governance. Through examining Middleton’s poiesis in relation to the political theology of Jacobean London, Kaethler explores early forms of free speech, namely parrhēsia, and rhetorical devices, such as irony and allegory, to elucidate the ways in which Middleton’s plural art exposes the limitations of the monarch’s sovereign image. By drawing upon earlier forms of dramatic intervention, James’s writings, and popular literature that blossomed during the Jacobean period, including news pamphlets, the book surveys a selection of Middleton\u27s writings, ranging from his first extant play The Phoenix (1604) to his scandalous finale A Game at Chess (1624). There are five stories in this book. I ordered this one for the collection because of the title of the first: The Story of Anna, Buddy, and the Country Mouse. That story is utterly charming, together with its colored lithographs. The author frequently pauses to note to the reader elements of a picture that the reader might miss. There is a first visit to a town, complete with a visit to a restaurant for tea, but in this case the two dogs sit nicely at a table and order, while Homer the mouse gets on top of the table. The three then again travel by bus back to the country. The five stories are interspersed with illustrations for traditional rhymes, including Sing a Song of Sixpence. Indeed, it is the art that makes this book, along with the charm of whimsical local stories. Coppin was serving in the armed forces overseas during World War II and wrote these stories for his son David, to whom the book is dedicated.
