Mark Berger Villa Healthcare
Mark Berger Villa Healthcare indicates that the main difference between physiotherapy in general and this discipline in particular is not so much in the techniques used but in the adaptation of them. Dealing with the elderly or dependent elderly people requires a very particular way of applying their knowledge from the specialist.
According to Mark Berger Villa Healthcare, it is something similar to what happens with those who care for the elderly in their homes. Training and experience are fundamental, but so are vocation, orientation towards the well-being of the other person, sensitivity and patience. Not surprisingly, some caregivers of dependent people may have knowledge of physiotherapy while geriatric physiotherapists have also learned a lot from caring for older adults.
Mark Berger Villa Healthcare claims in his articles on Medium that it is that the two areas complement each other when it comes to guaranteeing the maximum well-being of the elderly and / or dependents:
It helps them to be as autonomous as possible: get out of bed, wash up, eat ...
Reduces the risk of pathologies associated with lack of mobility, even when it comes to passive exercises.
Relieves chronic discomforts derived from locomotor problems and mitigates the body's perception of pain.
It favors a faster recovery after a possible fall.
Other benefits of physical therapy when it becomes routine practice
Talking about geriatric physiotherapy requires talking about the long term. Mark Berger Villa Healthcare shares that the positive effects of these practices may not be seen after the first session but will be seen as time goes on. And the highlight of all: they are not only reduced to an improvement in the locomotor capacities of the elderly but in many other aspects of their health and well-being.
Provides the necessary tools to gain self-confidence.
It brings security and energy, a desire to continue feeling useful.
Reduces stress and anxiety.
It favors the quality of sleep.
Increase mental health.
Reduces the risk of other pathologies (diabetes, overweight, colon cancer, osteoporosis ...).
It prevents cardiovascular accidents and circulatory problems.
According to Mark Berger Villa Healthcare academic publications, during old age, it is normal for there to be a decrease in physical activity due to fatigue, motor dysfunctions and a progressive loss of abilities such as balance, strength or endurance. However, there are ways to delay the wear and tear that the body experiences and physiotherapy in older people has established itself as an interesting therapeutic alternative

Reinventing
Compassionate Care for Seniors
Mark
Berger Chicago started Villa Healthcare to fill a vital need in the health care
sector to offer a better nursing
care option service for loved ones. Villa Healthcare is a
nationally-accredited caregiving provider that provides clients with skilled,
as well as post-hospital and rehabilitation care that is designed to improve
their health and quality of life.
Mark
Berger Chicago has over twenty-years of experience in the management
of skilled nursing and rehabilitation care facilities. With 22 short term
rehabilitation and nursing facilities in locations throughout Illinois,
Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan, each serving a unique market, an extensive
home health care group, managed long term care, various assisted living and
adult day care centers and more, Mark Berger Chicago drives the business of
each of those companies.
In
a new interview series, CEO and healthcare entrepreneur Mark Berger Chicago
discusses challenges and opportunities for reinventing compassionate care for
seniors.
What is the key to your success?
Mark
Berger Chicago: As our population continues to age, people are seeking
care providers that can remain vigilant to a loved one’s ever evolving
needs and adapt their care plans accordingly. Villa Healthcare offers services
that meet a need and we have invested to ensure we can deliver on the quality
that is part of the brand promise.
Why is providing skilled caregiving services considered a
worthwhile industry?
Mark
Berger Chicago: The number of elderly people is continually increasing. In the
US alone, the population over the age of 65 has almost tripled over the last
three decades. All this suggests that in the near future, the demand for
skilled nursing staff will even more increase.
Over
the next few decades, medical practice will largely be occupied with care for
the health of the elderly. Today, almost all over the world, especially in
highly industrialized countries, there is an increasing number of seniors and
older adults. This is not only a result of reduced birth rate in modern
societies, but also a consequence of the advancement of clinical medicine,
increased life expectancy, advanced medical genetics, clinical biology and of
course better care and premiere modern medicine in clinical practice.
Does
our health system has enough experts in this type of pathology?
Mark
Berger Chicago: The US health
care system in America will have to adapt to the aging of society.
Within the framework of the mentioned changes in the health care system, the
role of the chosen physician and the nurse to preserve aspects of medical
practice is becoming more and more important. Increasingly, humanitarian
qualities are being defined that include a number of factors such as integrity,
respect and compassion.
What to expect in the near future from physicians, nurse
technicians and other nursing professionals.
Mark
Berger Chicago: It is indisputable that science-based technology and the
deductive mindset of nurses and physicians make an important link in addressing
most clinical problems in geriatrics. Nurses and doctors are expected to have
more tact, patience, tolerance, but also responsibilities and commitment to the
older population, as well as to all age groups. While caring for the elderly, they
will need to develop more technical and human skills, scientific knowledge and
the art of reasoning. Those who practice this with courage, humanity, modesty
and wisdom will do the greatest service to their elderly patients. It may seem
an unnecessary reminder that the doctor and the nurse should view the patient
not as a "case" or "illness" but as a personal whose
problems often outweigh the problems they complain about.</p
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
