In this respect, Antoine Meillet’s positions, as he expounds them in his book Les langues dans l’Europe nouvelle published at the end of the First World War, constitute a very interesting example. The linguist’s commitment becomes more and more obvious as the reading of the book goes on and it shows the influence of external causalities (political, ideological) on the author.

Inefficient pricing from holdover bias in NFL point spread markets
We identify inefficiency in the National Football League (NFL) gambling market indicative of sticky preferences by bettors. NFL teams that qualified for the playoffs in the prior season are favoured by too large a margin in the opening week of the following season. Bettors view these teams as superior though they win only 51.7% of opening week games against teams that failed to make the playoffs in the prior year. Against the point spread, teams that made the playoffs in the prior year win only 35.6% of opening week games played against teams that failed to make the playoffs in the prior year. Systematic betting based on this trend results in significant profitability over the 2004–2012 seasons with an average return over 22% per game. We posit this can be explained by gamblers’ tendencies to cling to perceptions of teams formed from observation in the prior season. This confirms research in more traditional markets, suggesting investors can be slow to update asset valuations.Andy Fodor , Michael DiFilippo , Kevin Krieger & Justin Davis (2013) Inefficient pricing from holdover bias

Comment on Ryder's SINBAD Neurosemantics: Is Teleofunction Isomorphism the Way to Understand Representations?
The merit of the SINBAD model is to provide an explicit mechanism showing how the cortex may come to develop detectors responding to correlated properties and therefore corresponding to the sources of these correlations. Here I argue that, contrary to the article, SINBAD neurosemantics does not need to rely on teleofunctions to solve the problem of misrepresentation. A number of difficulties for the teleofunction theories of content are reviewed and an alternative theory based on categorization performance and statistical relations is argued to provide a better account and to come closer to the practice in neuroscience and to powerful intuitions on swampkinds and on broad/narrow content
HOW TO DEAL WITH PENILE CARCINOMA INGUINAL METASTASIS INVADING FEMORAL VESSELS
Penile cancer accounts for 1-10% of men neoplastic diseases and 30-60% of patients have inguinal metastases at the time of diagnosis. Inguinal metastases of penile cancer with femoral vessel involvement could lead to vascular fistula and hemorrhagic shock. We present 3 consecutive patients with inguinal metastases of penile cancer complicated by infection and hemorrhage from femoral vessels invaded by the tumor. Simultaneous extra-anatomical axillo-femoral bypass graft, wide excision of tumor and groin defect reconstruction was used to achieve “tumor-free” oncologic aim and to save the lower limb. We consider the extra-anatomic axillo-femoral bypass associated with wide inguinal tumor excision and defect covering a feasible surgical solution for improving the life quality and extend life expectancy in patients with lymph node metastasis of penile cancer complicated by necrosis, infection and femoral vessel involvement.</jats:p
