    The following work, examining the widespread diffusion of some online deviant phenomena such as cyberbullying (threats persisted through e-mail and online media) and the sexting (sending offensive pornographic material not required), highlights the role they have, both in the victims and in the abusers, the personality traits, the family environment and the relationship with the peers, considering that the victims are mostly teenagers. The author traces a psychodynamic reading of the phenomena also highlighting some models of intervention for prevention. The following work also underlines the usefulness of a psychotherapeutic treatment for both the abusers and the victims, considering that especially the latter could fall into depressive crises because of the abuses they suffered

    LOFT (Large area Observatory For x-ray Timing) is an innovative mission concept for the next generation of X-ray experiments, submitted to the ESA Call for Medium size missions “M3”. Recent developments in the field of Silicon detectors allowed us to design a realistic observatory devoted to X-ray timing studies with an effective area above 10 m2, operating in the energy range 2-30 keV with an energy resolution of ∼250 eV. Such an exceedingly large area (20 times that of RXTE/PCA), with a time resolution better than 10 μs, will enable unprecedently fast and accurate time variability studies related to accreting collapsed objects (e.g. fast coherent pulsations and QPOs). The scientific payload is complemented by a coded-mask wide field monitor based on similar detectors. In this paper we present the mission concept, the payload design and the expected performances. © Copyright owned by the author(s)

    AGILE observation of gamma-ray variability of the bright blazar 3C 273 during the MWL campaign of Dec 2007 - Jan 2008

    Eight years after the last EGRET observations in gamma-ray, the GRID (30 MeV - 50 GeV) and SuperAGILE (18 - 60 keV) experiments on board the AGILE mission observed the Virgo sky from December 16, 2007 and January 6, 2008. We organized a multi-wavelength campaign for the FSRQ 3C 273 with joint observations from the REM observatory (covering the near-IR and optical), Swift (near-UV and 0.2-10 keV). We report the preliminary results from the campaign. The first week the source was not detectable in Gamma Rays. Then we detected gamma-ray activity, with a flux comparable to the EGRET detection in June 1991. The hard x light curve show a decrease in flux of ∼ 20% during the period of activity in Gamma-ray.     Management of High-Pressure Injection Hand Injuries: A Multicentric, Retrospective, Observational Study

    Hand injuries after high-pressure injection are a medical emergency. These events occur frequently in workers during industrial cleaning, painting, and lubrication, and may have devastating consequences, leading to eventual amputation and poor functional outcomes. The authors have investigated the evolution, management, and outcome. Medical records of occupational medicine units and hand surgery units were collected in order to spot the high-pressure gear accident cases. Records were analyzed by dividing the subjects into two groups: those treated within 6 h and after 6 h of the trauma. A follow-up was carried out at least 1 year after treatment; the post-treatment outcomes were assessed. Of the 71 (100%) subjects, 26 (37%) were treated ≤6 h and 45 (63%) >6 h. A total of 28% (n = 20) underwent amputation. In 61% of cases, accidents had occurred in the iron and steel sector. High viscosity materials with a delayed treatment beyond 6 h seemed to determine compartmental syndrome and following amputation. A significantly better outcome was reported among subjects treated ≤6 h compared to those treated >6 h, 20% (n = 7) versus 26% (n = 9), respectively. Early management of this type of injury is crucial. The results of this study may contribute to providing guidelines to occupational physicians in order to best manage this type of emergency

    Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness and Higher Relapse Frequency May Predict Poor Recovery after Optic Neuritis in MS Patients

    Optic neuritis (ON) is a common manifestation of multiple sclerosis (MS). Aiming to evaluate the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) with optical coherence tomography (OCT), patients with relapsing-remitting (RR) MS experiencing ON were consecutively enrolled. RNFL, ganglion cell layer (GCL), foveal thickness, and macular volume were evaluated in both the ON and unaffected (nON) eye within six days from the relapse onset (T0) and after six months (T1). Ninety patients were enrolled. At T0, ON eyes showed a significantly increased RNFL when compared to the nON eyes (129.1 ± 19.5 vs. 100.5 ± 10.1, p < 0.001). At T1 versus T0, the ON eyes showed a thinner RNFL (129.1 ± 19.5 vs. 91.6 ± 20.2, p < 0.001) and a significantly decreased GCL (80.4 ± 8.8 vs. 73.8 ± 11.6; p < 0.005). No differences were found in the nON group in retinal parameters between T0 and T1. A multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that a higher number of relapses (not ON) and a greater swelling of RNFL at T0 were associated with poor recovery. The assessment of RNFL through OCT during and after ON could be used to predict persistent visual disability

    Aleurolobus teucrii n. sp. is described from southern Italy and the Maltese Islands (Central Mediterranean). The species seems to be monophagous on Teucrium fruticans L.
