George Soulié de Morant and his occidental traduction of chinese medical knowledge
Esta ocasião é marcada pela ruptura do pensamento linear no ocidente, possibilitando uma maneira diferente de relacionamento com o saber do extremo orienteThe present dissertation is the analysis of the work of Goerge Soulié de Morant (1878-1955), both as the translator and introducer of the teachings of acupuncture in the Western world, in the early 20th century France. He did not merely collect the data China could provide in the field of Medicine; instead he went beyond, initiating a group of French physicians in the field of acupuncture.
George Soulié de Morant was an expert in China with a degree in Eastern languages from the Paris School. He had an understanding, as an author, of both Eastern and Western cultures. Thus, he was able to bring together the practices of the Medicine of the East and West.
Many interesting points of his work are brought up, placing George Soulié de Morant back in his own time and letting his work speak for itself, considering that he lived in a very special historical epoch. This instance is marked by the breaking of the linear thought in the Western world, enabling a different approach with the Far East knowledgeCoordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superio

Evaluation of effectiveness and sustainability at construction site of the “Programa Minha Casa, Minha Vida” - a multiple case study in the Agreste of Pernambuco State
One of the main threats to sustainability in civil construction is waste. In the Brazil, sectorial programs and policies for civil construction were developed, with the objective of encouraging their modernization and sustainability. Such incentives occur mainly within the scope of the construction of social housing, currently driven by the federal government program Programa Casa Verde e Amarela (PCVA). In these works, structural masonry is widely used due to repetition of layout, reduction of waste and proves to be a sustainable alternative when well designed and executed. Therefore, the master's research had as main objective to evaluate the performance of Civil Construction enterprises in terms of the waste of blocks for masonry in housing construction sites in the Agreste region of the state of Pernambuco and to develop a layout of a sustainable proposal to reduce waste from this process. The structuring of the contents explored was in the form of chapters, whose epistemological sequence supports the subsequent stages and the global development of the research. Initially, Public Policies policies that have a perspective of a sustainable civil construction were analyzed, and that are related to the housing issue in Brazil for the elaboration of recommendations. From this, the research methodology adopted consisted of the multiple case study composed of three construction sites. Qualitative approaches were used, for field analysis and document analysis, and quantitative approaches, in the elaboration of the Morant Effectiveness Index (IEM). Construction site A has a large size and is located in the municipality of Caruaru. Construction sites B and C are located in the municipality of Santa Cruz do Capibaribe and are medium-sized. It was possible to verify that the most frequent waste categories in the works: excess stock, defective production and unnecessary movement. The main causes of this waste are: lack of layout for the service front at the work, inadequate handling of materials, and lack of planning in the acquisition of materials and stock management. The EMI for evaluating the effectiveness regarding the use of bricks for masonry were: 92.83% in construction site A , 91.31% in construction site B and 87.15% in construction site C. In the case of loss rates, the results were 6.68% in construction site A, 8.68% in construction site B and 10.79% in construction site C. Therefore, the results highlighted the need to apply measures focused on leaner construction and solid waste management as a strategy for sustainability in the face of the competitive market that demands efficient housing projects

Fully standard 3GPP LTE-A cellular signals are transmitted with MIMO and carrier aggregation in radio-over-fiber over a four-core fiber in different configurations. The processing capabilities of in-built 3GPP MIMO processing are evaluated experimentally in two-antenna and four-antenna LTE-A configurations and compared with single-antenna SISO performance. The robustness of 3GPP MIMO processing is analyzed over different optical paths in a four-core fiber and the optical power margin available between the four optical paths is calculated for each configuration. Finally, the transmission performance of carrier-aggregated LTE-A signals is evaluated in the four-antenna system implementing 4×4 MIMO spatial multiplexing with different carrier separation and center frequency configurations, including regulated cellular frequencies of frequency division duplex bands 7 and 20.This work was supported in part by Spain National Plan MINECO/FEDER UE TEC2015-70858-C2-1-R XCORE and RTC-2014-2232-3 HIDRASENSE. Performance analysis of multiple radio-access provision in a multicore-fibre optical fronthaul
[EN] In this work we report a comprehensive experimental study targeting the dimensioning of the next-generation multicore-fibre (MCF) optical fronthaul employing space-division multiplexing (SDM). This fronthaul is capable of simultaneous provision of multiple radio-access technologies (multi-RATs) with advanced multi-antenna MIMO capabilities per RAT. The different parameters required for fronthaul dimensioning are evaluated considering state-of-the-art 4G LTE-Advanced altogether other legacy wireless standards in operation nowadays. In particular, the modulation characteristics, the antenna quality requirements (in terms of EVM, phase error or rho) and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) thresholds are evaluated employing fully-standard cellular signals transmitted on a multicore fibre (MCF) fronthaul. The study includes bi-directional signal transmission and multi-antenna MIMO multiplexing. The MCF optical fronthaul is evaluated with a multiplexed transmission of 2G, 3G, 3.9G and 4G MIMO signals in radio-over-multicore-fibre (RoMCF) employing a commercially available four-core MCF. The SNR requirements at the transmitter antenna are obtained for each cellular signal considering GSM, EDGE, EGPRS2-A, cdma2000 1xEV-DO, UMTS HSPA+ and LTE-Advanced standards. LTE-Advanced singleantenna and two-antenna systems implementing 2 x 2 MIMO transmission can be accomplished with SNR levels over 25 dB. In the case of LTE-Advanced 4 x 4 MIMO multiplexing over four cores of MCF media, 32 dB SNR is needed to achieve almost four times provided bitrate per user. This research was supported in part by Spain National Plan MINECO/FEDER UE TEC2015-70858-C2-1-R XCORE and GVA AICO/2018/324 NXTIC projects. Performance Comparison of OFDM-UWB Radio Signals Distribution in Long-Reach PONs Using Mach-Zehnder and Linearized Modulators
[EN] The performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ultra wideband (UWB) radio signals distribution in long-reach passive optical networks (LR-PONs) using conventional chirp-less Mach Zehnder (MZ) and linearized (L) Y-fed directional couplers electro-optic modulators (EOMs) is compared. Particularly, the optimum modulation index and the corresponding minimum optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) required to achieve a bit error probability of 10 -12 are evaluated through numerical simulation for systems operating with single and three UWB sub-bands and different standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) distances indicated for LR-PONs. Both modulators are characterized experimentally and theoretical model parameters are adjusted to correctly describe the power and chirp characteristics of the electro-optic conversion in the simulation process. It is shown that the optimum modulation index and the tolerance to modulation index variations, considering either single or multi band UWB operation, is approximately two times higher for systems employing L-EOM than MZ-EOM. Additionally, with MZ-EOM, the required OSNR may increase considerably when the fiber length increases due to the power fading induced by fiber chromatic dispersion, achieving a penalty of almost 3 dB for systems with 100 km of SSMF and single UWB sub-band operation. Instead, with L-EOM, the required OSNR penalty (when compared with the back-to-back case) is lower for fiber lengths up to 100 km than it is for systems employing the MZ-EOM modulator due to the combined effect of the chirp generated by the modulator and the chromatic dispersion. This work was supported in part by the Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia (FCT) project TURBO-PTDC/EEA-TEL/104358/2008 from Portugal and by the EU project UCELLS-FP7-IST-1-216785. Unified Model of Linear and Nonlinear Crosstalk in Multi-Core Fiber

Permission from IEEE must be obtained for all other users, including reprinting/ republishing this material for advertising or promotional purposes, creating new collective works for resale or redistribution to servers or lists, or reuse of any copyrighted components of this work in other works. In this paper, the theoretical unification of linear and nonlinear inter-core crosstalk (IC-XT) in step-index single-mode multicore fiber (MCF) media is reported and validated experimentally. In order to estimate the IC-XT when operating in linear and nonlinear regimes, the coupled-mode theory (CMT) and the coupled-power theory (CPT) have been unified in both power regimes. The theoretical analysis of the CMT indicates that in coupled MCFs with reduced core-to-core distance (core pitch) the nonlinear self-coupling and cross-coupling effects should be considered when operating with high optical powers. However, considering a core pitch value higher than three times the core radius only the self-coupling effect should be taken into account for estimating the nonlinear IC-XT. Considering these results, the CPT is also extended to nonlinear regime including the dominant nonlinear coupling effect. Using both CMT and CPT, the statistical model of nonlinear IC-XT is completed with the closed-form expressions for estimating the cumulative distribution function, the probability density function and the crosstalk mean and variance as a function of the power level launched into a single-core of the MCF. The crosstalkmodel presented is additionally extended when multiple cores are simultaneously excited. Finally, the theoretical model is experimentally validated in a homogeneous four-core fiber considering different bending radius configurations. This work was supported by Spain the National Plan Project TEC2015-70858-C2-1-R XCORE and RTC-2014-2232-3 HIDRASENSE.
