Las mujeres de X’oyep (Mexico, 2013) by Alberto del Castillo Troncoso provides an incisive historical and cultural analysis of a powerful photograph by Pedro Valtierra taken in early 1998 in the Chiapas of indigenous and Zapatista resistance. Almost thirty years after the levantamiento of the EZLN (1994), the Italian edition of the research contains additional approaches by the author, standing out among international translations of the book due to the choice to interweave the perspectives of this study with the themes addressed in the other essays published in the volume. We refer to the diffusion and trajectories of photography in Mexico (19th-20th centuries) (Maria Matilde Benzoni-Alberto del Castillo Troncoso), the historical roots of the crisis in Chiapas (Massimo De Giuseppe), and the prism of expressions of attention and participation toward this glocal horizon that has matured in Italy from the late 20th century to the present (Simone Ferrari).Las mujeres de X'oyep (México, 2013) de Alberto del Castillo Troncoso propone un contundente análisis histórico-cultural de una impactante fotografía de Pedro Valtierra, realizada a principios de 1998 en el Chiapas de la resistencia indígena y zapatista.
Note sull’opera di Serge Gruzinski.
This paper aims to acquaint the reader with the works of Serge Gruzinski. Historian, professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris), since the 1980s Gruzinski has put the phenomenon of globalization into an historical perspective. From La colonisation de l'imaginaire (1988) up to Quelle heure est-il là bas? (2008), through Les Quatre parties du monde (2004) and the exhibition La planète métisse (Paris, Musée du Quai Branly, 2008-2009), Gruzinski has developed his scientific task from a very original point of view. With a special focus on Mexico and the Spanish-American experience, he has in fact followed the hints of globalization in the long period of history of civilizations, cultures, peoples and individuals. His works cross many frontiers. By connecting different spaces and times, different sources and scholarly traditions, the researches analyzed in this paper expose the reader to the whole gamut of cultural experiences fostered by globalization. In Gruzinski's perspective, history, far from being an ancilla of social sciences, remains the fundamental tool to understand and cope with the huge political and cultural changes of contemporary international life whose origins are rooted in the early modern age (XV-XVI century)

Antonello Gerbi’s Discovery of the New World : Life Experience and the Practice of History (1938-1948)
The Spanish translation of Antonello Gerbi’s La disputa del Nuovo Mondo (1955) prepared for the Fondo de Cultura Económica, made this seminal Italian study of the transatlantic debates about the indigenous peoples and nature of the Americas accessible to an international audience. Henceforth, Gerbi’s work came to serve as a fundamental reference book on American studies. Despite its success, the reasons that inspired Gerbi’s interest in the Americas have never been examined with an eye for his biography, the historiography of American studies, and global history. This essay reconstructs the historical context in which Gerbi developed his magnum opus while combining an analysis of Gerbi’s papers and scholarly methods with a reconstruction of his professional and intellectual relationships. It also draws on information gleaned from extensive interviews with Gerbi's son as well as the relatives of his friends. With the help of these various research methods and sources, it introduces the reader to the circumstances and reasons that led Antonello Gerbi (1904-1976) to redirect his interests towards the history of the Americas and their cultural relations with Europe during his decade-long exile in Peru as a victim of Mussolini’s racial laws
