Recent developments in hazardous pollutants removal from wastewater and water reuse within a circular economy
Data availability: The authors declare that the data supporting the findings of this study are available within the manuscript. Further data can be requested (if need be) by contacting the corresponding author.Copyright © The Author(s) 2022. Recent advances in wastewater treatment processes have resulted in high removal efficiencies for various hazardous pollutants. Nevertheless, some technologies are more suitable for targeting specific contaminants than others. We comprehensively reviewed the recent advances in removing hazardous pollutants from industrial wastewater through membrane technologies, adsorption, Fenton-based processes, advanced oxidation processes (AOP), and hybrid systems such as electrically-enhanced membrane bioreactors (eMBRs), and integrated eMBR-adsorption system. Each technology’s key features are compared, and recent modifications to the conventional treatment approaches and limitations of advanced treatment systems are highlighted. The removal of emerging contaminants such as pharmaceuticals from wastewater is also discussed.Khalifa University through the Center for Membranes and Advanced Water Technology (CMAT), under grant number RC2-2018-009
The Thought and the Word
Autor wstępu opisuje poezje metafizyczne i biografię twórczą Leszka Elektorowicza (ur. 1924- we Lwowie), polskiego poetę metafizycznego, przyjaciela Zbigniewa Herberta (1924-1998). The author of the introduction describes metaphysical poetry and creative biography of Leszek Elektorowicz (born 1924 in Lwow), the Polish metaphysical poet, a friend of Zbigniew Herbert (1924-1998). The editorial note contains the completly bibliography of all sources for the reprints of verses by Elektorowicz. In addition first bibliography contains the list of all book publications by Elektorowicz from the years 1957-2012, but not only poetic books. Another bibliography contains selected publications by Elektorowicz in non-Polish anthologies and foreign periodicals from the years 1959-2008. The biographical calendar contains the most important events of his life from the years 1924 to 2013. The facts, that are included there, similarly as the all bibliographical data in the book, were authorized immediately by Leszek Elektorowicz

Zielony zeszyt. O Juweniliach i Seniliach Leszka Elektorowicza
The unique composition idea of Juwenilia i Senilia, a tome by Leszek Elektorowicz, is to contrast the unknown early wartime poems with the most recent works by the outstanding poet. The reader may become acquainted with the beginnings of Elektorowicz’s work, but also grasp the link of the „juvenilia” with his mature output. Of special signifi cance is the permanence of the struggle for humane values, both during World War II and in the era of the post-modern ethical crisis. In the Juwenilia, the experience of the disaster of war, loneliness, the sense of being surrounded, stands out in the first place. From the melancholic states, the poet shifts to attempts to rebuild the world after a defeat and to suspend temporarily the contemplation on trauma. In Juwenilia, the ardour of confessions is contrasted with the poetry of experience. In the second part, titled Senilia, the author of the article presents such poetic topics of Elektorowicz as criticism of our time’s culture, memoirs, lyrical confessions in subtle love poems, considerations of history, ruminations on the ultimate matters. Leszek Elektorowicz connects ethical obligations of the art of word with an aesthetic programme, with restitution of ‘high speech’ and psalmic nobleness
A Computer Simulation of Water Quality Change Due to Dredging of Heavy Metals Contaminated Sediments in the Old Harbour of Montreal
Abstract
Aquatic sediments accumulate heavy metals that are discharged into the environment. This study investigates possible water quality changes due to release of heavy metals such as Cd, Ni, Zn and Pb into the water column during dredging of anoxic sediments in the Old Harbour of Montreal. An environmental impact assessment of the sediment removal requires estimating the speciation of heavy metals in the water column with and without the solid phase. Chemical equilibria in the St. Lawrence River water are calculated using the program EQUILIB from the software FACT. Results show that the water is oversaturated with respect to CaMg(CO3)2 and Fe(OH)3. It is speculated that (ZnO)(Fe2O3) and (NiO)(Fe2O3) control the solubility of Zn and Ni in the water. The speciation of heavy metals in pore water of anoxic sediments is calculated, taking into account that the corresponding sulfides are solid phases and control their solubility. The impact of various scenarios on the area of concern is reviewed from an ecotoxicological perspective. Dredging might change the redox and acid-base conditions in the water column. Dredging can lead to an increase in the concentration of heavy metals in the water column and a change of metal speciation, but its impact will be less visible if the sediments contain high levels of calcium acting as a buffer.</jats:p
