Implementing the AIFMD: Success or failure? ECMI Commentary No. 34, 28 March 2013

    No full text
This commentary considers the implementation of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) by the European Commission. The AIFMD creates an internal market for asset management and as an endeavour to develop market-based finance is an important piece of legislation for the European economy. The author, Mirzha de Manuel Aramendía, considers the implementation of some of the provisions that raised concern among industry participants. He finds that, on balance, a practical and flexible approach to implementation has been followed that should help secure the success of the framework, which at present is still uncertain. The commentary also considers the remuneration guidelines adopted recently by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). It encourages EU and national authorities to commit to the success of the AIFMD framework, as part of a broader effort to develop capital markets and reduce the historical reliance of the European economy on bank finance

    No full text

    Max-closed semilinear constraint satisfaction

    No full text
A semilinear relation S â ân is max-closed if it is preserved by taking the componentwise maximum. The constraint satisfaction problem for max-closed semilinear constraints is at least as hard as determining the winner in Mean Payoff Games, a notorious problem of open computational complexity. Mean Payoff Games are known to be in NPâ©co-NP, which is not known for max-closed semilinear constraints. Semilinear relations that are max-closed and additionally closed under translations have been called tropically convex in the literature. One of our main results is a new duality for open tropically convex relations, which puts the CSP for tropically convex semilinear constraints in general into NP â© co-NP. This extends the corresponding complexity result for scheduling under and-or precedence constraints, or equivalently the max-atoms problem. To this end, we present a characterization of maxclosed semilinear relations in terms of syntactically restricted first-order logic, and another characterization in terms of a finite set of relations L that allow primitive positive definitions of all other relations in the class. We also present a subclass of max-closed constraints where the CSP is in P; this class generalizes the class of max-closed constraints over finite domains, and the feasibility problem for max-closed linear inequalities. Finally, we show that the class of max-closed semilinear constraints is maximal in the sense that as soon as a single relation that is not maxclosed is added to L, the CSP becomes NP-hard

The First International Workshop on Formal to Practical Software Verification and Composition (VeryComp 2016) was held in Vienna, Austria, on July 4, 2016. The aim of the workshop is to counteract the specialization of traditional venues by bringing together researchers and practitioners from different areas concerning software verification and composition, to fill the gap between the requirements of modern applications and current verification and composition methods. In particular, VeryComp 2016 aimed at attracting contributions related to the subject at different levels, from modeling to verification and analysis, from componentization to composition. The workshop constituted a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and industry to present and discuss their latest ongoing research as well as radical new research directions that represent challenging innovations. After a careful review process, the Program Committee accepted four papers. Several people contributed to the success of VeryComp 2016. We would like to thank the STAF 2016 Workshops organizers as well as the general chair. We would also like to thank the Program Committee for their work in reviewing the papers. The process of reviewing and selecting papers was significantly simplified through using EasyChair. We thank all the workshop attendees and hope that this event facilitated a good exchange of ideas and new collaborations among attendees. The organization of VeryComp 2016 was partially supported by the H2020 EU project CHOReVOLUTION

Constraint Satisfaction Problems over Numeric Domains

    No full text
We present a survey of complexity results for constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs) over the integers, the rationals, the reals, and the complex numbers. Examples of such problems are feasibility of linear programs, integer linear programming, the max-atoms problem, Hilbert's tenth problem, and many more. Our particular focus is to identify those CSPs that can be solved in polynomial time, and to distinguish them from CSPs that are NP-hard. A very helpful tool for obtaining complexity classifications in this context is the concept of a polymorphism from universal algebra

The work is an extract of one long recherch in the archives of the Argentine writer Manuel Puig, the genesis of its production and its relation with international the intellectual field. In this extract is analyzed the use of the melodrama in “the spectacular” production of the author. The publication of an unpublished is included , published for the first time by me in 1996 in the Orbis Tertius Nº 2, Centro de Teoría y Crítica Literaria, UNLP.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació
