    No full text
This thesis studies the relation between policy reform and productivity performance in Latin America usin firm-level data for the retail services sector. In the after math of the 1982 debt crisis, the role of the governmen was dramatically reduced and replaced by the competi tive forces of the free market. Unfortunately, the reform did not live up to expectations regarding growth. This thesis aims to add various pieces to solvin the puzzle why growth in Latin America did not acceler ate despite wide-ranging reforms. It analyzes alternativ; policy strategies to speed up growth, arguing that takin into account the diversity of firms is at the core of under standing the relation between policy and productivity.

    193. De Vries, Simon (1633/34-1667)

    No full text
Simon Joosten de Vries was an Amsterdam Mennonite merchant, born in 1633 or 1634. He died a bachelor on September 17, 1667 and according to several reports, Spinoza inherited an annual sum from his estate, allowing him to fully concentrate on his work as a philosopher. Unlike his friends Jarig Jelles, to whom he was related by family ties, and Pieter Balling, De Vries was not a published author, but like them he belonged to Spinoza’s most intimate acquaintances, as is evident not only from his last will, but most of all from the letters Spinoza and De Vries exchanged once the philosopher had left Amsterdam

Brain Power: The role of psychology in energy transitions

    No full text
In this webinar, TU Delft climate psychologist Gerdien de Vries explains why and how psychological perspectives, theory and methods are useful for energy transitions. Energy transitions imply changes in the behaviour of all actors involved. For example, citizens and organisations need to accept and use new energy technologies, policymakers have to design effective policies, and industries and researchers need to push for both technological and social innovations. Behavioural change in energy transitions is difficult to accomplish though. Psychological mechanisms, such as habits, hassles, and heuristics are identified as important barriers. Therefore, interest in psychology is growing among stakeholders dealing with energy transitions. This interest is visible in the emergence of behavioural or “nudge” units within governmental, civic, and commercial organizations. But despite this emergence, the integration of psychology in the broader energy system is relatively underdeveloped in literature and public policy alike. Dr. de Vries calls for a change.Organisation & Governanc

Maar het is tijd 'to put your money where your mouth is'. Haar eigen woning moet van het gas af. De komende maanden neemt ze ons in haar blog mee op weg naar een gasvrije woning.Organisation & Governanc
