New Data and Output Concepts for Understanding Productivity Trends
The present study is the second is a series of three papers devoted to issues in the measurement of productivity and productivity growth. The contributions of the present paper are three. First, it introduces a new approach to measuring industrial productivity based on income-side data that are published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). The data are internally consistent in that both inputs and outputs are income-side measures of value added, whereas the usual productivity measures combine expenditure-side output measures with income-side input measures. Second, because of interest in the "new economy," we have also constructed a set of new- economy accounts. For the purpose of this study, we define the new economy as machinery, electric equipment, telephone and telegraph, and software. Finally, because of concerns about poor deflation in the current output measures, this study constructs a new output concept called "well-measured output," which includes only those sectors for which output is relatively well measured. We present a brief summary of the behavior of the alternative measures.Productivity, new economy, price measurement, well-measured output

L’arte rupestre nelle montagne dell’al-Hajar, penisola arabica. Temi, cronologia, interpretazione
Thousands of engraved and painted figures have afways intrigued visitors to the wadis of Af-Hajar Mountains in the Peninsula of Oman. Who created these enigmatic figures and when were they made? What are their hidden meanings? In the last decade the rock art of AI-Hajar Mountains has benefited from extensive research over a number of projects with a primary focus on engraved and painted efements. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman and the Sharjah Archaeology Authority initiated a series of surveys, some carried out by the present author, that have resulted in focating several important sites covering an extensive period of aver 7000 years and in offering a first chronological proposaf ofthe rock art. The themes in AI-Hajar Mountains rock art can be separated into five distinct categories: animafs, humans, abstract figures, objects, and inscriptions. These can be divided into six chronologicaf phases based on styfe, superimpositions between figures, comparison of different levels of re-varnishing, and the presence of certain animals

Adsorption properties of glucose and isomaltose on different BEA zeolites
The adsorption properties of monosaccharide glucose and disaccharide isomaltose have been investigated on BEA zeolites with different moduli for a reaction-integrated adsorption system. For BEA-type zeolites from Süd- Chemie the moduli Si/AlD12.5, 75, and 225 were compared and showed a maximum for isomaltose adsorption on Si/Al D 75. Adsorption models of Langmuir and Toth were used for fitting of the detected data and compared. Equilibrium measurements at different temperatures allowed the calculation of the adsorption enthalpy. For module Si/Al D 75 adsorption enthalpy δhAd was -27:5 kJ mol-1 using Langmuir and -26:3 kJ mol-1 in the case of Toth's model. For glucose only -13:3 kJ mo-1 was obtained, indicating a weaker adsorption compared to isomaltose. For an enzymatic production system, BEA150 (Süd-Chemie) and HSZ-980HOA (Tosoh Corporation) were compared. The adsorption equilibrium constant Ki;L is 14:9mLg-1 on BEA 150 and 1:79mLg-1 on HSZ-980HOA. Hence, HSZ-980HOA shows a three-fold faster desorption, which was determined in desorption kinetics. Despite nearly identical loading under production conditions, BEA 150 reaches a yield of 64% for purification of isomaltose compared to 43% for HSZ-980HOA. © de Gruyter 2012
