Panoramic overview of unconventional approaches to detect chiral information

    No full text
The concept of inherent chirality has gained considerable attention due to the possible synthesis of π-conjugated monomers that can be employed for preparing chiral electrode surfaces after electrooligomerization [1]. These materials have been used in enantiorecognition measurements involving chiral analytes, resulting in high selectivity based on diastereomeric interactions between the deposited enantiopure antipode and the probes dissolved in solution. In this context the high enantioselectivity of such chiral surfaces was used in combination with the mechanical and electrical properties of polypyrrole (Ppy) films to develop three new straightforward read-outs for the absolute on-off recognition of enantiomers of a chiral probe in solution; i) electromechanical deformation (a) [2], ii) electrochemically induced light emission (b) [3] and iii) self-induced enantioselective trajectories (c) [4]. These new approaches allow to convert chiral information present at the molecular level into macroscopic actuation, light emission or controlled trajectories. Furthermore, such systems allow correlating the output signal with the concentration of the enantiomers present in solution, even in the case of mixtures containing different ratios of the molecular antipodes. Unconventional Electrochemical Approaches for the Direct Readout of Chiral Information

    No full text
Among the different strategies to endow conducting polymers with chiral features, the concept of inherent chirality is extremely attractive and efficient for several reasons. [1] Inherent chirality is an intrinsic propriety of the whole molecule in which the stereogenic element responsible for chirality coincides with the functional group responsible for the specific properties of the molecular material. The racemization barrier of these molecules is high enough to allow the separation into stable enantiomers by chiral HPLC. Their electro-oligomerization results in chiral electrode surfaces able to discriminate the antipodes of chiral species by differences in peak potential recorded by voltammetry. [2] This is a true advantage from an analytical point of view, because it is possible to achieve the enantioselective discrimination in racemic mixtures of the analyte, in contrast to most of the approaches presented in literature for which the recognition is only based on differences in current intensity. In this context the high enantioselectivity of such chiral surfaces was used to develop i) a new approach based on bipolar electrochemistry for the absolute on-off recognition of enantiomers of a chiral probe, [3] and ii) new autonomous enzymes based swimmers able to convert chiral information present at the molecular level into macroscopic enantioselective trajectories. Le infezioni della mano in ambito lavorativo

    No full text

Spalvos prasmingumas T. Mano novelėje ,,Mirtis Venecijoje"

Tapybos poveikio T. Mano kūrybai klausimas lieka atviras. Galima įžvelgti netiesioginę įvairių XIX a. pabaigos-XX a. pradžios meno srovių įtaką T. Manui kūrybinių impulsų plotmėje (turima omeny Jugendstil, impresionizmas)

T-NOVA: An open-source MANO stack for NFV infrastructures

    No full text
One of the primary challenges associated with network functions virtualization (NFV) is the automated management of the service lifecycle. In this paper, we present a full software-based management and orchestration (MANO) stack which operates with OpenStack and OpenDaylight controllers and has the in-built functionality to automate the key phases of the NFV service lifecycle, namely resource discovery and matching, service mapping, service deployment, and monitoring. The MANO stack is being implemented by the EU FP7 project T-NOVA, with the components being released as open-source software. Service mapping and service deployment solutions developed in the scope of T-NOVA are presented in detail. As a proof-of-concept, we evaluate the performance of a virtualized traffic classifier network function, demonstrating the gains of virtualized hardware acceleration. © 2017 IEEE

Heterogeneous and tissue-specific regulation of effector T cell responses by IFN-gamma during Plasmodium berghei ANKA infection.

    No full text
IFN-γ and T cells are both required for the development of experimental cerebral malaria during Plasmodium berghei ANKA infection. Surprisingly, however, the role of IFN-γ in shaping the effector CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cell response during this infection has not been examined in detail. To address this, we have compared the effector T cell responses in wild-type and IFN-γ(-/-) mice during P. berghei ANKA infection. The expansion of splenic CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells during P. berghei ANKA infection was unaffected by the absence of IFN-γ, but the contraction phase of the T cell response was significantly attenuated. Splenic T cell activation and effector function were essentially normal in IFN-γ(-/-) mice; however, the migration to, and accumulation of, effector CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells in the lung, liver, and brain was altered in IFN-γ(-/-) mice. Interestingly, activation and accumulation of T cells in various nonlymphoid organs was differently affected by lack of IFN-γ, suggesting that IFN-γ influences T cell effector function to varying levels in different anatomical locations. Importantly, control of splenic T cell numbers during P. berghei ANKA infection depended on active IFN-γ-dependent environmental signals--leading to T cell apoptosis--rather than upon intrinsic alterations in T cell programming. To our knowledge, this is the first study to fully investigate the role of IFN-γ in modulating T cell function during P. berghei ANKA infection and reveals that IFN-γ is required for efficient contraction of the pool of activated T cells
