Seasonal Rearing Performance of Multivoltine Pure Mysore Silkworm in Southern dry Zone of Karnataka, India
The differences in the seasons and environmental components considerably affect the quality of the multivoltine silk worm seed crop such as cocoon weight, shell weight, and cocoon shell ratio. Frequent fluctuations in the environmental conditions day to day and season to season point up the importance of management of temperature and relative humidity for sustainable seed cocoon production in the basic seed farms. Hence to know the role of seasonal temperature and humidity on growth and development of Multivoltine silkworm, present study conducted at P2 Basic Seed Farm Nagenahalli, Central Silk Board, Karnataka to assess the seasonal performance of the multivoltine silkworm using various parameters. In the study all the data were recoreded were subjected to the correlation and the correlation results revealed significantly higher hatching per cent yield (number and weight)/ 100 dfls (Kg),single cocoon weight(gm) and single cell weight (gm) were 95.67, 43414.45 ( by number) and 57.70 kg (by weight), 1.233 and 0.180, respectively) during the winter season, whereas significantly higher weight of 10 matured larvae (28.01g) and shell weight (0.180) were recorded during rainy season. Further, significantly lower fecundity (480), hatching% (94.98), larval duration (28 days), weight of 10 matured larvae (25.80g), cocoon yield/100dfl (43.29 kg), single cocoon weight (1.146g), single cell weight (0.169g), pupation (95.22%) and cocoon leaf ratio (21.95) were recorded during summer.among the seasons. In all, winter season was more ideal for the rearing of multivoltine silkworm in the southern dry zone seed area of Karnataka with superior cocoon and egg characters due to lower temperature and humidity fluctuations.</jats:p
Validation of Nasiya Therapy in Pacifying Ayya Kuttram
Patients with the symptoms of Ayyam were enrolled in the study.
❖ The author had collected the review of literature for Ayyam, Nasiyam from classical siddha literatures and Modern aspect of Nasiya therapy from various texts and published articles.
❖ Case sheet and proforma was maintained for all 60 cases.
❖ Derangement of Uyirthathukkal and Udalthathukkal among 60 cases had been discussed below:
◉ Uyirthathukkal:
◉ Vadham - In 100% of cases Pranan, samanan, udhanan &
kirukaran are affected.
◉ Pitham – In 32% of cases Aalosagam is affected.
◉ Kabham – In 100% of cases Avalambagam is affected.
◉ Udalthathukkal: In 100% of cases Saaram, Senneer are affected.
◉ Envagithervugal had studied in detail and their interpretation had done.
❖ Naadi, Neikuri, Manikkadai Nool before and after treatment were discussed.
❖ There are obvious changes in Naadi before and after treatment was noticed among patients.
❖ Manikkadai Nool also shows changes in patients before and after treatment but the results were insignificant.
❖ Based on patient’s satisfactory rate, about 39% of patients showed good, 15% of patients showed better relief and about 18% of patients reported to have slight relief.
❖ Neikuri shows better results - Before treatment, there are 30% of cases had typical Ayya Neikuri. After treatment, there are only 7% of presented cases had typical Ayya Neikuri.
❖ After treatment - Ayyam was decreased in many patients who showed Ayyam predominant Neikuri pattern before treatment.
❖ A patient with Sinusitis, Migraine and Nasal polyp showed a better relief after getting Nasiyam for 3 days.
CONCLUSION:
Based on the study and results, the author concluded that Nasiya therapy is the effective method to pacify the deranged ayya kuttram before treating the ayya disease. Nasiyam is a useful drug delivery method, for drugs that are active in low doses and show no minimal oral bioavailability.
Neikuri is the better parameter than Naadi or Manikkadai in assessing pacified Ayya kuttram as recorded by this study. Hence, the author validating the statement “Nasiyathal Ayyam thaalum” i.e., Ayya kuttram can be pacified by Nasiya therapy. This study has been conducted as analytical study among 60 patients only. Therefore large amount of samples and further experimental studies should be needed to prove this in further more efficient way

Analyzing object categories via novel category ranking measures defined on visual feature embeddings
Visualizing 2-D/3-D embeddings of image features can help gain an intuitive understanding of the image category landscape. However, popular visualization methods of visualizing such embeddings (e.g. color-coding by category) are impractical when the number of categories is large. To address this and other shortcomings, we propose novel quantitative measures defined on image feature embeddings. Each measure produces a ranked ordering of the categories and provides an intuitive vantage point from which to view the entire set of categories. As an experimental testbed, we use deep features obtained from category-epitomes, a recently introduced minimalist visual representation, across 160 object categories. We embed the features in a visualization friendly yet similarity-preserving 2-D manifold and analyze the inter/intra-category distributions of these embeddings using the proposed measures. Our analysis demonstrates that the category ordering methods enable new insights for the domain of large-category object representations. Moreover, our ordering measure approach is general in nature and can be applied to any feature-based representation of categories
Investigating consumer adoption, usage and impact of broadband: UK households
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.Despite a large investment, the majority of countries especially the UK demonstrate a slow adoption of broadband. In order to enhance the adoption and use of broadband this research examines the factors influencing the decisions of household consumers. This research aims to address the two main areas of concern: first, to investigate consumer-level factors affecting the adoption of broadband in UK households; and second, to understand the usage of broadband and its impact upon household consumers in the UK. This research adopted a quantitative approach that was executed in the following steps. First, it developed a conceptual model by selecting and justifying relevant constructs from appropriate theories and models related to technology adoption, usage and impact. Second, it operationalised the constructs by developing and validating the research instrument by employing the content validity, reliability and construct validity approach. Finally, it empirically validated and refined the conceptual model by employing a survey research approach.
The findings suggested that all the constructs included in the conceptual model, except knowledge, significantly influence the consumers when adopting broadband in a UK household. The significant constructs include relative advantage, utilitarian outcomes, hedonic outcomes, primary influence, facilitating conditions resources and self-efficacy. The rate and variety of Internet usage is significantly higher for broadband consumers than narrowband ones. It was also found that significantly more numbers of broadband consumers perceived changes in time allocation patterns on various daily life activities than narrowband ones. This research contributes towards theory, practice and policy. The contribution of this research towards theory is that it integrates and determines the appropriate information systems (IS) literature in order to enhance knowledge of technology adoption from the consumers' perspectives. An added contribution to theory is the development and validation of a research instrument that future studies can utilise to examine broadband and other similar technologies in household context. Considering the slow adoption of broadband, this research also provides implications for policy makers and the providers of broadband in order to encourage and promote homogenous adoption and usage
