No full textIn questo articolo focalizzo l’attenzione sulla questione dei generi letterari in relazione alla scrittura a quattro mani. In particolare, intendo verificare quanto e come la scrittura a quattro mani influisca sulla scelta del genere letterario da parte degli autori. Al fine di indagare efficacemente tale questione ho compiuto una catalogazione delle opere composte a quattro mani, nel contesto occidentale, comprensiva delle pubblicazioni edite fino a dicembre 2013 (l’indagine si riferisce in particolare agli stati seguenti: Portogallo, Spagna, Inghilterra. Francia, Svezia, Danimarca, Germania, Italia e Stati Uniti d’America). Tale ricerca quantitativa ha condotto ad evidenziare alcune rilevanti regolarità. Dopo aver, quindi, individuato nel ‘sottogenere’ del romanzo giallo e noir quello più sfruttato, sono passata all’analisi de Il mistero della strada di Sintra (1884) di J. M. Eça de Queiroz e J. D. Ramalho Ortigão. L’interesse suscitato da questo romanzo deriva solo in parte dal fatto che è la prima opera a carattere poliziesco della letteratura portoghese, ma anche dallo stile pungente e ironico, dall’escamotage letterario, ideato e sapientemente sfruttato, dell’apparizione del romanzo ‘a puntate’ sul «Diário de Notícias», dal sapiente uso dei personaggi – e in particolare di quello di Luisa –, da tutte le riflessioni critico-ideologiche, sia a livello letterario sia sociale, che puntellano il testo

Abstract
INTRODUCTION:
The 22q13.3 deletion syndrome (MIM 606232) is characterised by neonatal hypotonia, normal to accelerated growth, absent to severely delayed speech, global developmental delay, and minor dysmorphic facial features. We report the molecular characterisation of the deletion breakpoint in two unrelated chromosome 22q13.3 deletion cases.
METHODS:
The deletions were characterised by FISH, checked for other abnormalities by array-CGH, and confirmed by Real-Time PCR, and finally the breakpoints were cloned, sequenced, and compared.
RESULTS:
Both cases show the cardinal features of the 22q13.3 deletion syndrome associated with a deletion involving the last 100 kb of chromosome 22q13.3. The cases show a breakpoint within the same 15 bp repeat unit, overlapping the results obtained by Wong and colleagues in 1997 and suggesting that a recurrent deletion breakpoint exists within the SHANK3 gene. The direct repeat involved in these 22q13 deletion cases is presumably able to form slipped (hairpin) structures, but it also has a strong potential for forming tetraplex structures.
DISCUSSION:
Three cases with a common breakpoint within SHANK3 share a number of common phenotypic features, such as mental retardation and developmental delay with severely delayed or absent expressive speech. The two cases presented here, having a deletion partially overlapping the commercial subtelomeric probe, highlight the difficulties in interpreting FISH results and suggest that many similar cases may be overlooked

No full textThe response of mani-mani (Arachis pintoi Krap. & Greg) to increasing levels of Cd (0, 10, 15, 20 and 25 μM) and Pb (0, 10, 25, 50 and 100 μM) was evaluated in terms of the plant\u27s morphology, growth and membrane lipid peroxidation. Mani-mani showed greater browning of leaves under Cd treatment compared with Pb. The highest decline in root and shoot dry weights, 0.1667g and 0.5667 g, respectively, was observed at 25 μM Cd. Lead treatment, however, did not significantly affect these characters. No significant difference was also noted in the root length of Cd-and Pb-treated plants. A significant reduction in nodule number was observed under Cd treatment, but the nodule size was not significantly affected by both metals. Mani-mani showed greater accumulation of Cd in both roots and shoots compared with the lead-treated plants at all levels. Root electrolyte leakage was highest at 20 (1.1343 mS/cm2) and 50 μM (0.8167 mS/cm2) for Cd and Pb, respectively, but declined at 25 μM (0.8217 mS/cm2) and 100 μM (0.4440 mS/cm2) for Cd and Pb, respectively.
