Design of microcavity resonators for single-atom detection

    Get PDF
Whispering gallery modes of a microdisk resonator are useful for the optical detection of single rubidium and cesium atoms near the surface of a substrate. Light is coupled into two high-Q whispering-gallery modes of the disk which can provide attractive and/or repulsive potentials, respectively, via their evanescent fields. The sum potential, including van der Waals/Casimir-Polder surface forces, may be tuned to exhibit a minimum at distances on the order of 100nm from the disk surface. Simultaneously optically trapping and detecting is possible, with the back-action of an atom held in this trap on the light fields being sufficiently strong to provide a measurable effect. Atom trapping and detection depend on a variety of system parameters and experimental realizations differ for different atoms

Aluk is a system of life that occurs in all areas of human life that includes customs and culture. The aluk  that was already in the sky, and Puang Matua and the gods were brought the provisions of the aluk. So that the relationship between in heaven and on earth is bound together. So it appears in Aluk Rambu Solo'. One of them that is still being done today is the installation of Rambu Solo rite symbols. In making and installing the Rambu Solo' symbol, there are certain conditions that must be met. The symbols of Rambu Solo' rites are rituals to remember and honor ancestors who have died and can bless and protect the family. So this is the background so that the author wants to explore the meaning of the symbols of Rambu Solo' Rite and theological studies. In this study, the author uses “socio-discourse analysis" which is an interdisciplinary approach that combines elements of social analysis and discourse analysis. This method aims to understand how language is used in a particular social context and how it reflects, creates, or reproduces social structures, powers, identities, and social relations. Here are the general steps in conducting research using the socio-discourse analysis method. The results showed that the making and installation of Rambu Solo' rite symbols is  still within the understanding  of Aluk Todolo and is seen as a legacy from ancestors. In the making and installation of the symbols of the Rambu Solo rite , the Gospel Crystal has actually been seen, but it is still in the understanding of Aluk Todolo. From Adam Smith's Concept of Sympathy to Natsume Sōseki's Social Proposal

(Texto tomado de la fuente)The onset of the Meiji period (1868) marked the official beginning of Japan's modernization process. Simultaneously, a sense of uncertainty and identity crisis emerged among the Japanese population. Various factors contributed to this feeling of displacement: the possibility of absorption by another country, rejection of traditional values, aesthetic changes, and, notably, the loss of a collectivist ethos. Natsume Sōseki precisely situates himself in this historical moment, elucidating not only the changes resulting from modernization but also the challenges of his time through his lectures and novels. A recurring theme in Sōseki's works concerns Japan's moral dimension and the potential degradation of Japanese society toward individualism. However, Sōseki does not entirely reject the concept of individualism. ¿What enables this author to embrace a concept so foreign to premodern Japan? Considering this question, Adam Smith's concept of sympathy, as delineated in works such as The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759) and The Wealth of Nations (1766), emerges in Natsume Sōseki's writings as a facilitating element for the establishment of a society, even one with individualistic tendencies. This idea constitutes the primary hypothesis of this thesis. Furthermore, we will explore how the concept of sympathy permeates Sōseki's literary theory, lectures, and novels, offering a social proposition counter to the "top-down revolution" promulgated by the Meiji government.

Abstract. The church’s mission in a fluid world requires new spaces of service. If the church is not responsive and critical of its reality, it is difficult for the church to be present to answer the needs of the people. One interesting reality is the existence of the diaspora. The extent to which the church's mission reaches the diaspora as a missional space is a challenge. This paper aimed to propose a form of diaspora missional fellowship membership in the ministry of the Toraja Church. The method used was a qualitative method with observation survey technique through two congregations in Tana Toraja and North Toraja and interviews with purposive sampling technique to some specifically determined people. Through this research, it was concluded that pilgrimage churches confront the church with a way of doing church based on the spirit of pilgrimage, which crosses the boundaries of geography, territory and church walls.

Humans and all creatures need rivers as a source of life and prosperity. However, many rivers have been polluted, such as the Sa'dan river. This paper aims to rediscover Christians' vocation in viewing and preserving rivers that focus on God. By using the theory of Theocentrism and To Sangserekan mythology in treating the river as a sangserekan that needs to be guarded and maintained. The author uses a descriptive qualitative method to achieve this goal with the help of field studies and literature. Field studies through open interviews with respondents have been determined according to the needs of the instrument and literature study using the perspective of Theocentrism and To Sangserekan mythology which emphasizes that humans and rivers are both created. The results of the study said that the causes of the pollution of the Sa'dan river were: (1) there was a mistake in understanding the river, which had no connection with the issue of Christian faith; (2) an environmentally unfriendly lifestyle has become a habit that continues to be forced; (3) the lack of sermons on environmental issues, especially rivers. For this reason, a theological response is needed to answer the problem of pollution of the Sa'dan river, namely towards river theology.
