DINAMICHE GEOPOLITICHE, CLIMATICHE E TERRITORIALI DEL CIRCUITO TENNISTICO PROFESSIONISTICO INTERNAZIONALE
Territorial and geopolitical dynamics of the international professional tennis tour. – Major events, and in particular sports events, play an important role in contemporary society, mobilising huge amounts of resources and helping to delineate political, social and territorial phenomena of great interest. In this sense, just think of how many actors are involved in the organisation and management of competitions that, although they often take place in local contexts, are part of broader and more complex relational networks that often reach the international level. This contribution focuses on the territorial and geopolitical dynamics that characterise the major events of the international professional tennis tour. In particular, an attempt will be made to identify the logics underlying the geographical distribution of the different locations in an attempt to understand whether the choices depend on geopolitical reasons or are instead essentially linked to territorial characteristics or whether they depend on a mix of motivations. In addition, we aim to investigate whether and with what effects climate variations has already influenced or may influence the organisation of events on the international professional tennis tour in the futur
Non-convulsive status epilepticus associated with tiagabine in a pediatric patient
We report a 4-year-old patient who developed non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) following tiagabine (TGB) as add-on treatment for refractory partial seizures. NCSE occurred while the patient received TGB 0.83mg/kg/day. In our case, the TGB reduction led to a significant improvement of electroclinical features. The mechanisms of this abnormal effect are not clear. GABA-ergic hyperfunction and/or multiplicity of interlinked brain GABA systems associated with individual specific sensitivity could play a critical role in the pathogenesis of NCSE. This is the first report of NCSE documented by electroencephalogram (EEG) in a child under 12 years of age on TGB treatment. © 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
ANALYSING WASTE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR RIOMAGGIORE, A MUNICIPALITY IN THE “CINQUE TERRE” AREA
The aim of this study is to analyse the relation between tourism activities in the “Cinque
Terre” region, in particular in the municipality of Riomaggiore, and urban solid waste
production and management. The choice of the topic is highly relevant as the region of
“Cinque Terre”, located in the north-west part of Italian Mediterranean coastline, has
been affected during the last decade by an unprecedented phenomenon of overtourism and hence an overwhelming tourism waste, which endangers the national park
and UNESCO heritage sites of “Cinque Terre”.
The research reviews the current situation in the region and the national and local
legislative framework that conditions waste management. While this study is at an
explorative stage of designing a strategy for a sustainable waste management, based on
the analysis of both primary and secondary data focused on Riomaggiore, it still aims at
a systematic understanding of the existing problematics that can be applied by the
region stakeholders to improve the sustainability in concrete terms. Primary data come
from interview with Head of the Technical Office of Riomaggiore. These data will be used
to understand the actual management of waste and the real possibilities to reduce the
environmental impact. Thanks to secondary data sourced from literature reviews,
private and public reports, and legislative frameworks, the research provides an
overview of the quantity of urban solid waste generated consistently by tourists and
excursioniststhroughout the Cinque Terre from Easter holidays to late October area and
its impact on the local population. As a support, the study utilizes data related to tourist
movements (hotel and non-hotel arrivals and overnights) as well as a survey to be conducted at the end of summer 2024. As an output, the study aims at evaluating
possible strategies for the improvement of the currently implemented systems of waste
management, using optimization approaches among other methods
DAI GRANDI EVENTI ALLA TURISTIFICAZIONE DELLA CITTÀ: DILEMMI DEL RINNOVATO CAPITALE CULTURALE DI GENOVA
From Mega Events to city’s touristification: dilemmas of Genoa’s renewed cultural capital. – The Mega Events that Genoa (Liguria, Italy) hosted between 1990 and 2004 (Expo ’92, 2001 G8 summit, European Capital of Culture 2004) have shifted the urban change and economic transition of the city towards cultural tourism, inducing administrators in the past two decades to organise a series of periodic minor events in order to maintain this trend. In this article we analyse the statistical data that demonstrate these changes and present the results of a survey disseminated to 522 citizens and users of the Liguria Region with the aim of understanding the locals’ perception about the role of such events in catalysing urban transformation and about the risks or opportunities related to the touristification of Genoa. The results emphasise the enduring gap between the “long timescales” of urban transformations and their perception, identifying the main drivers of these transformation
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
