    Past, Present, and Future of Impulse Buying Research Methods: A Systematic Literature Review

    Impulse buying (IB) represents a pivotal subject in consumer psychology. A general agreement on its core elements and their relationship is arguably established. So far, however, there has been little discussion about how to assess impulse purchases, leading to a potential divergence of practise from theory and complexities in cross-study comparability. This systematic literature review investigates the research methods and metrics employed in high-quality literature to evaluate impulse shopping behaviours across different environments, including online, offline, and multichannel settings. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) criteria, the literature search has been conducted on databases relevant for scientific literature, including Scopus, Web of Science, and ProQuest. Fifty-four articles were included in this systematic review. Findings show the existence of four methods to investigate IB, namely quantitative self-reports, laboratory investigations, fieldwork observations, and qualitative interviews. A comparison of the four methods in terms of fit highlights that self-reports and interviews provide a significant contribution in assessing the cognitive facet of impulse purchasing. Laboratory investigations and fieldwork observation find a better fit with the conative and visceral facets of impulsive buying. Considering the major role of affective charges occurring during impulse shopping, complementary research approaches, and metrics belonging to applied psychophysiology and consumer neuroscience are examined. Three opportunities for future research are discussed, including theory building and refinement, understanding individual differences, and honing behavioural predictions

    Influence of Technostress on Work Engagement and Job Performance During Remote Working

    The Covid-19 pandemic forced millions of people worldwide to engage in remote working practices, and several organisations are expected to continue adopting work-from-home even in the post-pandemic scenario. This phenomenon has highlighted the importance of human-technology interaction in enabling tele-work, but it has also increased awareness about the potential adverse effects of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on employees' wellbeing. Even if recent literature has delved into these consequences in terms of techno-stress, there has been little quantitative analysis within the telework literature. The present study aims to fill this gap by introducing and testing an empirical model grounding on a transactional-based model of stress. We assess the influence of three techno-stressors (i.e., techno-overload, techno-complexity, and techno-invasion), two typologies of individual psychological responses as mediator variables (i.e., affective and cognitive strain), and individuals' work outcomes (i.e., work engagement and job performance). We collected self-reports through survey research involving a sample of 135 remote workers. Data was analysed using Partial Least Square - Structural Equation Modeling. The results show that techno-overload positively influences affective strain, techno-invasion positively influences both affective and cognitive strain, while techno-complexity positively influences cognitive strain. Further, we show that cognitive strain negatively affects both work engagement and job performance, while affective strain negatively influences only job performance. Possible stress coping strategies based on the redesign of the working environment and mindfulness practices to inhibit techno-stressors are discussed. Also, we discuss how adaptive systems tracking individual behavioral and cognitive strain can create positive feedback loops to enhance individual wellbeing

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Exploration of the physiological response to an online gambling task by frequency domain analysis of the electrodermal activity

    Online gambling has dramatically increased over the last decades, thus the study of the underlying physiological mechanisms could be helpful to better understand related disorders. Specifically, physiological arousal is well-known to play a key role in gambling behavior. In the present study, unconventional frequency feature of the electrodermal activity (EDA) was extracted (EDASympn) and compared to the most common heart rate variability (HRV) spectral parameters (LF, HF, HFn, LF/HF) to measure arousal during an online gambling session. 46 subjects played online slot machines for 30 minutes, while EDA and ECG were recorded. In the analysis the gaming session was divided into three 10-minutes-long phases. A one-way repeated measures analysis of variance was carried out for each spectral parameter, with the game phases as within-subjects factor. All the calculated parameters showed significant differences between the initial phase of the game and the last two (p < 0.001). In particular, EDAsympn displayed a reciprocal trend with respect to HFn: an initial increase (decrease for HFn) was followed by a plateau phase. LF exhibited a significant difference also between the second and the third phases. EDA frequency-domain analysis appears to be a promising method for physiological arousal assessment, by showing the same discriminative power of HRV spectral components.
