    Esta tesis define un marco teórico sobre la base del cual se enlazan los conceptos de ecología y etología, concibiéndolos no como dominios de conocimiento separados, sino a través de la complementariedad descriptiva y explicativa que se desprende de su objeto de estudio común, esto es; la relación organismo-entorno. Los alcances logrados respecto del referente de estudio (Fulica leucoptera), no pueden por lógicas razones ser enunciados aquí. No obstante, sí es propicio presentar sus implicancias y consecuencias teóricas y metodológicas. Desde este trabajo se asume la complejidad de la relación organismo-entorno, es decir no se acepta la asunción simplista de que el organismo es una unidad independiente de facto de su entorno y que éste a su vez determina las condiciones de existencia de aquél, lo cual se admite cuando se evoca al ambientalismo o al behaviorismo. Decir que un fenómeno es complejo no invalida la posibilidad descriptiva por la vía analítica, pero sí orienta de manera muy distinta las concepciones teóricas al respecto, así como también, las reformulaciones que del estudio surjan. A partir de lo dicho hasta aquí, la presente tesis no solo oficia de marco para muchos trabajos que directa e indirectamente argumentaron observaciones etológicas, sino que, precisamente concibe ese ámbito como dominio de una disciplina muchas veces actuada, pero nunca claramente definida en la Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata.     Potential biomarkers of infertility associated with microbiome imbalances

    Problem: The aim of this study was to investigate the possible relationship between vaginal/rectal microbiome disbalances and miRNA expression with infertility. Method of study: Observational, exploratory, preliminary study. A total of 287 multiple IVF failure infertile patients were recruited. Twenty fertile women, not IVF failure, were recruited as the control group. Swab samples were collected from the vagina and rectum. Microbial composition by NGS and miRNA expression by real-time PCR of vaginal and rectal samples was measured. Immunometabolic markers from blood (insulin, vitamin D, LDL-cholesterol, ANA, TPO, Tg, and ASCA antibodies) and saliva (sIgA) were analyzed. Result(s): Infertile patients showed a lower bacterial richness and increased Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio at rectal level and an increased Lactobacillus brevis/Lactobacillus iners ratio in vaginal samples regarding the fertile group. In the same rectal swab samples, we found that miR-21-5p, which is associated with tight junction disruption and yeast overgrowth, is upregulated and that miR-155-5p, which is associated with inflammation, is overexpressed in the unexplained infertile group (*p <.05). These deregulated miRNAs were also upregulated in the vaginal samples from the same patients (*p <.05).     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Problema: El aumento de la infertilidad a nivel mundial no solo esta vinculado al aumento de la edad materna sino al impacto de factores ambientales que provocan cambios epigenéticos en el estado de salud de la mujer, y que tienen impacto en el origen de trastornos inflamatorios cuyo primer síntoma podria ser la infertilidad. Método de estudio: Se reclutó a un total de 301 mujeres con multiples fracasos de FIV-ET. Se analizo la expresión de microARNs especificos asociados a desbalances de la microbiota junto con marcadores en sangre y en saliva. Todas las pacientes mostraron desbalances al menos uno de los marcadores antes mencionados y decidieron seguir con su tratamiento habitual (n=23) o personalizar una suplementación alimentaria y de probioticos durante 75 días (n=278). La tasa de embarazo fue comparada entre ambos grupos luego de 180 días de busqueda de embarazo. Resultado(s): El 84% de las pacientes infértiles mostraron un aumento en al menos uno de estos microARNs. Teniendo en cuenta estos parámetros y los marcadores de sangre periférica y saliva, las pacientes fueron suplementadas con una combinación de dietas biomédicas, probióticos y nutracéuticos. La tasa de embarazo tras otro intento de FIV-ET fue del 75% para el grupo que personalizo la suplementación y del 30% para el grupo que no realizó la suplementación (*p<0.05). Conclusiones: Una suplementación dietaria adecuada según nuestra novedosa plataforma de diagnóstico de microARNs mejoró la tasa de embarazo de los pacientes con multiples fallas de FIV-ET.Problem: The increase in infertility worldwide is not only linked to the increase in maternal age but also to the impact of environmental factors associated to epigenetic changes in women’s health status, which have an impact on the origin of inflammatory disorders whose first symptom could be infertility. Method of study: A total of 301 women with multiple IVF-ET failures were recruited. The expression of specific microRNAs associated with microbiota imbalances was analyzed together with biomarkers in blood and saliva. All patients showed imbalances in at least one of the above-mentioned biomarkers and decided to continue with their usual treatment (n=23) or to customize dietary and probiotic supplementation for 75 days (n=278). Pregnancy rate was compared between both groups after 180 days of pregnancy search. Result(s): 84% of the infertile patients showed an increase in at least one of these microRNAs. Considering these parameters and peripheral blood and saliva biomarkers, the patients were supplemented with a combination of biomedical diets, probiotics and nutraceuticals. Pregnancy rate after another IVF-ET attempt was 75% for the group that customized supplementation and 30% for the group that did not supplement according tests results (*p<0.05). Conclusions: Appropriate dietary supplementation according to our novel microRNA diagnostic platform improved the pregnancy rate of patients with multiple IVF-ET failures.Fil: Azpiroz, María A..     Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
