    Scanning and Skimming Strategies to Assists Students in English Reading Texts

    Reading is a skill of English learning. First, it makes students have a great knowledge. Second, to help students improve their writing. Third, it can increase English vocabulary. Scanning and skimming are strategy suitable used to assists students in English reading text. The objective of this study is to know the effectiveness of scanning skimming strategy. The method that researcher used is qualitative method which researcher take the data from some journal, after that we put in the table the author, journal’s name, result, the next we analysis and get the conclusion. The results are all of journals that the researcher collected support the scanning and skimming as strategy English teacher to motivate students and to make students understand in reading text

    ANALYSIS OF THE CONTENT OF EXERCISE SEVENTH GRADE ENGLISH TEXTBOOK

    The aim of this study was to analyze the content of exercise in the English textbook appropriate with the criteria a good exercise or activity in the English textbook purposed by expert theory. This study is a qualitative research which the data was obtained with observation and documentation; First, Interview, researcher asked English teacher to answer the questions; Second, documentation, data was taken based on the main English textbook used SMP Muhammadiyah Cawang 4 Jakarta Timur namely Buku Bahasa Inggris untuk SMP/MTS Kelas VII by Erlina, S and Muhammad, H published Mediatama. In the English textbook there were 24 exercises. The result of this research shows that the exercises of this book provided from 24 exercises which were six exercises without new vocabulary students to communicate and five exercises do not incorporate by pair/group work, so the exercise do not meet criteria with a good exercise in the English textbook, but the English teacher always give the supplementary material that taken from other media source

    The objective of this study is to describe the perspective of English teachers about the 2013 curriculum, the implementation of English learning, the expectations of English teachers about the learning English. This research has been conducted at SMA Kartika VIII-1 Srengseng Sawah Jakarta Selatan It was a qualitative research that the researcher described the phenomenon happened and analysis it. The data was obtained by observation and interview. There are some steps as follow; First, Observation. It was done when the English teacher teach to the students; Second, Interview. It was taken when the English teacher taking a rest. The result of this research as follow: 1. The English teachers perspective about the concept of 2013 curriculum are positive; 2. The English teachers perspective about the implementation of learning English based on the 2013 curriculum was not maximal because there is no correspondence between the hours only 2 hours and the material taught by the English teacher; 3. English teachers expectation of learning English that is a change from 2 hours a week  to 4 hours  in a week

    Tujuan dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat adalah memberikan materi bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan metode Total Physical Response dan lagu . Dalam mengadakan pengabdian masyarakat ini, judul “Pemberian Kosakata dalam bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan Metode Total Physical Response dan Lagu pada siswa - siswa Pondok Pesantren Pengasinan Depok”. Langkah- langkah rencana kegiatan adalah sebagai berikut; 1) Perencanaan, Persiapan dalam melaksanakan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dituangkan dalam perencanaan; 2) Pelaksanaan, Setelah kami merencanakan dengan matang, selanjutnya kami melaksanakan kegiatan. Dan penerapan pelatihan kami membagi dalam tahap-tahap kegiatan adalah sebagai berikut; a) Kegiatan ke 1; dalam kegiatan pertama, kami memberikan bahasa Inggris menggunakan Metode TPR; b.) Kegiatan Ke 2; Kami memberikan lagu dalam bahasa Inggris 3) Pendampingan, Dalam tahap pendampingan kami siap membantu apabila meminta kami kembali untuk mengadakan pelatihan yang serupa

    This article discussed about perception students on parts of speech after taking Integrated English. The purpose of this research is to know the student’s perception about Parts of Speech such as noun, pronoun, verbs, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction and interjection. Problems is students still confuse to put words of parts of speech in a sentence, so the researcher wanted to know what is students’ perceptions on Parts of Speech after taking Integrated English. Pelatihan TOEFL memiliki langkah- langkah kegiatan adalah sebagai berikut; 1) PERENCANAAN, Perencanaan yang matang dalam setiap tahapan yang akan dipersiapkan dalam melaksanakan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat membantu kegiatan berjalan dengan lancar ; 2) PELAKSANAAN, Sesudah direncanakan dengan matang langkah selanjutnya tim abdimas melaksanakan pelatihan yang mana didalamnya mencakup kegiatan- kegiatan yakni Pertama, Tim abdimas memberikan materi skill TOEFL karena terbatasnya waktu maka diberikan hanya materi Structure dan tidak semua materi skill TOEFL; Kedua, Dalam Pemberian latihan soal pemateri menjelaskan materi yang diberikan, berikutnya menjawab latihan soal Structure; 3) Pendampingan, Tim Abdimas melakukan pendampingan kepada guru ketika menjawab soal- soal latihan TOEFL yakni structure serta pendampingan akan senantiasa terus menerus diberikan guna membantu apabila ada kendala yang ditemukan dalam Latihan soal TOEFL serta memberikan Solusi atas kendala Kata Kunci: Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat, Guru, Kompetensi, TOEF
