    Damage Diagnosis of Bolt Loosening via Vector Autoregressive - Support Vector Machines

    Developments in engineering techniques have concentrated on how to build better solu- tions for engineering structures in order to main the integrity and to reduce the costs in operations. Since the last two decades, advances in computational power have allowed machine learning algorithms to be applied as a powerful tool in anomaly detection problems, classification as well as in regression analysis. The objective of this study is to detect the damage using the vector auto regression model (VAR) coupled with support vector machines (SVM). A base excited three storey manufactured from an aluminium is investigated in a lab medium for various structural states. Accelerometers are fastened to the each corner of structure's f loor to collect time series data. Damage simulation scenarios in structure are per- formed by releasing the bolt load which cause the nonlinear effects. Once the sensors' meas- urements are collected for each state and organized to represent the appropriate scenario's label, they are processed in VAR model to obtain feature vectors such as residuals and VAR parameters. Then, SVM with optimal kernels are implemented on those features to classify and locate the damage. The results demonstrate that the VAR residuals shows a significant performance over VAR parameters once they are used as features in SVM technique. Moreo- ver, it is also found that detection performance rises as the number of damage increases

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Eleman bağımsız Galerkin yöntemi çeşitli mühendislik sistemlerine uygulanan sayısal çözümleme yöntemlerinden birisidir. Bu çalışmada, bu amaçla lineer elastik, dolu kesitli çubuklar seçilip, değişik yük şartları iki örnek üzerinde incelenmiştir. Problem olarak, f(x)=x ve f(x)=0 [ f(l)=1] eksenel yüklerine maruz bırakılan ankastre çubuklar, bir boyutlu lineer elastik olarak incelenmiştir. Şekil fonksiyonu olarak hareketli en küçük kareler yaklaşımı kullanılmıştır. Şekil fonksiyonları bir ve iki boyutlu çözüm bölgelerine uygulanıp grafik olarak verilmiştir. Bu çalışmada yaklaşık çözüm için araştırmacılar tarafından kullanılıp önerilen eleman bağımsız Galerkin yöntemi yardımıyla hesaplanan yer değiştirme değerleri, analitik çözümle karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuç olarak eleman bağımsız Galerkin metodunun bu tür problemlerin çözümünde etkili ve güvenilir bir yöntem olduğu belirlenmiştir.Element free Galerkin method is one of many numerical methods which was applied to various engineering systems. Therefore, in this study two linear elastic rods having solid cross sections were investigated for different loading conditions. The problem considered in the analysis is one dimensional linear elastic cantilever rods and rods are subjected to axial loads f(x)=x and f(x)=0 [ f(l)=1]. Moving least square approximation was used as shape functions. Shape functions were applied to one and two dimensional solution domains, and plotted. In this paper, axial displacement values obtained by using element free Galerkin method which proposed and used by researchers for approximating the solution were compared with analytical solution. As a result, it was found that element free Galerkin method is an effective and trustworthy numerical solution method

    The main objective of this research is to diagnose single or multiple bolt loosening for a system exposed to environmental and operational uncertain conditions by implementing both vector auto regressive (VAR) model alone and VAR model coupled with singular value decomposition (SVD), Mahalanobis distance and principal component analysis (PCA). The research has been deployed on a three-storey system constructed with aluminum members in the laboratory medium. The damage simulation scenarios in system have been performed by loosening the frame bolts on each floor which cause the nonlinear effects. The system's ground storey has been excited with an electromagnetic shaker vibrating at band limited random frequencies. Accelerometers are attached to each edge of the floor to acquire the dynamic response of the structure and use their signals for damage diagnosis. The accelerometers' measurements were collected for eight loosening cases. Once these measurements have been processed and evaluated in statistical pattern recognition algorithms, their performance results have been compared and presented via tables and ROC curves. It is obtained from ROC curves that the VAR model coupled with PCA technique has the highest diagnosis performance score in terms of area under curve (AUC) and optimum true positive rate (TPR). The approach it has been followed here demonstrates that the individual sensor that is most affected by the loosening can be identified which could be implemented to detect the bolt loosening
