No full textPart of Alphonse Mingana’s Woodbrooke Studies: Christian Documents in Syriac, Arabic, and Garshuni, edited and translated with a critical apparatus, of which the present book is volume 2, The Apology of Timothy the Patriarch before the Caliph Mahdi is accompanied in this volume by The Lament of the Virgin and The Martyrdom of Pilate. These three texts demonstrate the variety found in Mingana’s extraordinary collection. The namesake of the volume, Timothy’s apology for Christianity, is an eighth-century manuscript and one of the earliest documents concerning Christianity’s relationship with Islam. In it the “Nestorian” Patriarch Timothy I (780-823) presents his case for his faith to the third Abbasid Caliph Mahdi. The other two documents share a common Egyptian origin and Garshuni epigraphy. Neither The Lament of the Virgin nor The Martyrdom of Pilate claim a great antiquity and both works are pseudepigraphical. Mary’s lament, in the former work, is her sadness at the empty tomb, a piece in which she is conflated with Mary Magdalene. The latter piece presents Pontius Pilate as a saint and lays out his spiritual accomplishments that are crowned by his martyrdom. The texts are presented in their original languages as well as in English.
Alphonse Mingana (1878-1937) was an educator at the Chaldean Seminary in Iraq. He was also a priest in the Assyrian tradition and a collector of ancient manuscripts. He is renowned for his Mingana Collection, a set of nearly 3000 early Syrian and Arabic documents which he acquired and preserved. Mingana eventually immigrated to England, where he spent 17 years in Manchester to continue his work on Oriental Studies
Using Computer Technology Tools to Improve the Teaching-Learning Process in Technical and Vocational Education: Mechanical Engineering Subject Area
No full textThis paper discusses the integration of computer assisted instructions (CAI) with traditional class room teaching. It describes a teaching method to bring real-world of industrial work into the classroom that underscores the need to learn fundamental principles while adding excitement and relevance to the experience. This paper presents results of a case study undertaken to understand the effect of computer assisted teaching methodology on learning effectiveness in classroom environment. The effects of computer assisted instructions on different levels of cognition of individual learners have also been evaluated. The computer aided drawing (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer numerical control (CNC) courses at the Bahrain institute are an integral part of this attempt. These courses emphasize the development of a 3-D geometric computer model and application of this digital database to all phases of the design process. The students make freehand sketches, build computer models, mate assemblies of parts, perform various analysis, create kinematics simulations, generate final design drawings, import engineering drawing as DXF file, generate NC file to build rapid prototypes as shown in the table 1 below.

Full text linkIn general, this study aims to describe the character and inner conflict of Mahdi's character in the Jenny & Mahdi short story by Muliadi GF. Based on the problem above, this study aims as follows to describe the character of the characters in the Jenny & Mahdi short story by Muliadi GF; and describe the inner conflict with the short story character Jenny & Mahdi by Muliadi GF. The method used is the method of literary criticism in the form of text analysis (literary works) because only with analysis of any literary work can the meaning be explained. The characters of Mahdi in this short story include: a person who never gives up, a person who is closed and doesn't talk much, and anger and curses.
