Apposition, attribut, épithète : même combat prédicatif ?
Mats Forsgren - Apposition, attribut, épithète : même combat prédicatif ?
This contribution deals with a plaidoyer for unifying the description of the much- debated category of apposition, viewed here as one of three syntactic modes of semantic predication on referents of noun phrases, the two others being modification (fr. épithète) and attribution (fr. attribut). Starting from the pragmatic view-point that apposition represents primarily a propositional speech act — a secondary predication — and a discourse strategy, the author attempt to find common denominators at langue level, in terms of basic constructional and semantic criteria, which are hierarchically ordered, with the aim to isolate some prototypical appositive predicates, as invariants covering the different contextual cognitive interpretations, as described by others (eg. Blumenthal, 1980; Combettes, 1998; Neveu, 1998a and b). Special attention is given to identifying and locative appositive predicates.Forsgren Mats. Jag är ett mellanting. Klass och kolonialism i Gustaf Hellströms bildningsroman Kärlek och politik
Peter Forsgren, Department of Film and Literature, Linnaeus University “I’m something in-between”: Class and Colonialism in Gustaf Hellström’s Bildungsroman Love and Politics (“Jag är ett mellanting”. Klass och kolonialism i Gustaf Hellströms bildningsroman Kärlek och politik) This article analyzes Gustaf Hellström’s novel Kärlek och politik (Love and Politics), published in 1942, from both a class and a postcolonial perspective, showing how they interact with each other, and with gender as well. Following the novel’s hero, Stellan Petreus and his development during his stay in London 1908–1911 as a foreign correspondent, the analysis shows how his identity as a Swede and as a liberal middle-class man is disrupted when he is confronted with class conflicts and social injustices in England and with British colonial policies, especially towards Ireland and India. The analysis also shows that Stellan Petreus uses his writings, both as a journalist and as an author of fiction, as a way to cope with the conflicts he is faced with. Another way to deal with the conflicts is to define his position as an “in-betweener” (mellanting)

”ger du mig lov att skriva en roman om dig?” Elin Wägners Genomskådad – Hemlighetsfull och den kvinnliga bildningsromanen
Peter Forsgren, Departement of Film and Literature, Linnaeus University “do you give me permission to write a novel about you?”: Elin Wägner’s Unmasked – Secretive and the women writers’ Bildungsroman (“ger du mig lov att skriva en roman om dig?” Elin Wägners Genomskådad – Hemlighetsfull och den kvinnliga bildningsromanen) This article analyzes Elin Wägner’s autobiographical twin novel Genomskådad—Hemlighetsfull (Unmasked—Secretive), published 1937–38, by placing it in the tradition of women writers’ Bildungsroman. The aim of the author was to describe her own development as a feminist from the early 20th century to the 1930’s and at the same time the history of women liberation movement during the same period. In contrast to the traditional Bildungsroman and the ideal of harmony between the hero and the society in the end, the women writers’ Bildungsroman explores the injustices of the patriarchal society and at the same time the need for a new kind of society that brings women freedom and possibilities to develop themselves, something that gives these novels utopian qualities. As the analysis shows, the character Ethel bears many similarities with the young Elin Wägner, while the main character and narrator, Agnes, who is radicalized by World War I, step by step develops a feminism that the author embraced by the time the twin novel was written. This was a feminism inspired by ideas of matriarchy which underlined the importance of peace, not only between nations but also between man and nature. A third part of this autobiographical Bildungsroman was planned, but instead Elin Wägner wrote Väckarklocka (Alarm Clock), published 1941. This book became the author’s testament and in it she discusses the three main themes in her authorship: women, peace and the environment. In Väckarklocka Elin Wägner speaks with a strong personal voice in the manner defined by Susan Snaider Lanser, and the twin novel can be read as a story about how this voice was developed and why

Expression of brain natriuretic peptide in the rat heart studies during heart growth and in relation to sympathectomy
Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) might be of importance during heart development and is described to be increasingly expressed in congestive heart failure and to affect the progress of this condition. However, details in the normal expression of BNP are still unclear in various parts of the adult and growing heart, including the conduction system. In this study, we investigated the expression of BNP in relation to that of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in the growing as well as in the adult rat heart. The effects of chemical sympathectomy in adult rats were also examined. Contrary to previous BNP immunohistochemical studies, the BNP antiserum was preabsorbed with an excess of ANP before staining to abolish the crossreactivity with ANP. There was a pronounced BNP immunoreaction in the auricles, the trabeculated ventricular walls, and the peripheral parts of the conduction system at 0-1 days postnatally. The degree of immunoreaction gradually decreased with increasing age. A similar developmental pattern was seen concerning ANP expression, but the magnitude of the latter clearly exceeded that for BNP. Immunoreaction for BNP was never detected in the atrioventricular (AV) node and AV bundle at any stage. In contrast to the situation for ANP previously observed, no obvious changes in BNP immunoreaction patterns were observed in response to sympathectomy. This is the first study to thoroughly demonstrate the expression of BNP in the various regions of the rat heart during growth and in the normal and sympathectomized adult stage. The observations are related to possible functions of natriuretic peptides in the growing and adult heart.</p
Contagious Defenses : Interaction of Emotional Contagion and Defense Styles in a Business Context with Regard to the Resistance to Change
Companies have always had to adapt to external changes by innovation and reorganisation, in order to stay competitive and survive. For many industries, such as the automotive industry for example the need to quickly adapt to new conditions is expected to increase. In the automotive industry this is due to amongst other factors the globalised value chains and megatrends such as decarbonisation, autonomous vehicles and shared mobility. The megatrends could possibly be disruptive for the industry. Therefore, the ability to successfully implement necessary changes is a key ability. Defense mechanisms are psychological strategies that are unconsciously used to protect a person from anxiety arising from unacceptable thoughts or feelings. While protecting the individual from anxiety, they often result in a resistance to changes and is therefore problematic for organisations in need of implementing change. Emotional contagion is a subconscious process that can make people emotionally converge. The authors propose that within a business context, emotional contagion enables stable organizational groups to converge with regard to which defense mechanisms that are employed. Within a case study of the automotive supplier Swedish Electro Magnets a quantitative analysis of defense styles was conducted based on the Defense Style Questionnaire on groups in the organisation. Three defense style categories were analysed Mature, Neurotic and Immature defense styles. For Mature defense styles significant findings confirmed that stable groups do converge with regard to what mechanisms are employed. Neurotic defense styles were not found significant, however these results are rather uncertain with a power of 15 %. Immature defense styles could not be analysed because of inhomogeneity of variance between the groups on this variable. The study shows that the two theories of Emotional contagion and Defence mechanism are interacting within the organisation of Swedish Electro Magnets with regard to Mature defense styles. The study also finds a large effect size, that suggests that the differences in the defense styles are visible to the naked eye of a careful observer. The large effect size makes the findings a promising field for further research to ultimately reduce the resistance to change in organisations.
