Magni
Magni is a Python package which provides functionality for increasing the speed of image acquisition using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The image acquisition algorithms of Magni are based on the Compressed Sensing (CS) signal acquisition paradigm and include both sensing and reconstruction. The sensing part of the acquisition generates sensed data from regular images possibly acquired using AFM. This is done by AFM hardware simulation. The reconstruction part of the acquisition reconstructs images from sensed data. This is done by CS reconstruction using well-known CS reconstruction algorithms modified for the purpose. The Python implementation of the above functionality uses the standard library, a number of third-party libraries, and additional utility functionality designed and implemented specifically for Magni
Presentazione
Paola Magni: a Real Forensic Investigator
Murdoch University entomologist Paola Magni lives the daily life of a forensic investigator helping the police solving the most complex criminal cases. In this interview Dr Magni talks about her most successful investigations
Bug Forensics with Dr Paola Magni
Did you know that bugs could be a major help in solving murder mysteries?
New research discovered by forensic biologist Dr Paola Magni has uncovered critical baseline data for the decomposition of bodies on Rottnest Island.
RTRFM's Madeleine Lombardi spoke to Dr Magni about her research on Rottnest Island and also uncovered secrets about bodies found underwater.
Madeleine started off with asking Dr Magni about her experience diving into the deep end..
On Decomposing Net Final Values: Eva, Sva and Shadow Project
A decomposition model of Net Final Values (NFV), named Systemic Value Added (SVA), is proposed for decision-making purposes, based on a systemic approach introduced in Magni [Magni, C. A. (2003), Bulletin of Economic Research 55(2), 149–176; Magni, C. A. (2004) Economic Modelling 21, 595–617]. The model translates the notion of excess profit giving formal expression to a counterfactual alternative available to the decision maker. Relations with other decomposition models are studied, among which Stewart’s [Stewart, G.B. (1991), The Quest for Value: The EVAâ„¢ Management Guide, Harper Collins, Publishers Inc]. The index here introduced differs from Stewart’s Economic Value Added (EVA) in that it rests on a different interpretation of the notion of excess profit and is formally connected with the EVA model by means of a shadow project. The SVA is formally and conceptually threefold, in that it is economic, financial, accounting-flavoured. Some results are offered, providing sufficient and necessary conditions for decomposing NFV. Relations between a project’s SVA and its shadow project’s EVA are shown, all results of Pressacco and Stucchi [Pressacco, F. and Stucchi, P. (1997), Rivista di Matematica per le Scienze Economiche e Sociali 20, 165–185] are proved by making use of the systemic approach and the shadow counterparts of those results are also shown. Dr. Paola Magni -Forensic Entomologist, Murdoch University
Dead men tell no tales. But the bugs infesting their corpses sure do. Dr. Paola Magni is a forensic biolost specialising in the application of natural sciences, such as entomology, to crime scene investigations. Educated at the University of Turin in Italy, Dr Magni has worked in a court-of-law and has been instrumental solving keynote cases using her techniques and on television in the Italian crime drama R.I.S.
Dr. Magni has also developed an app called Smart Insects for assisting Crime Scene Investigators globally which is available on Android and Apple
The accounting-and-finance of a solar photovoltaic plant: Economic efficiency of a replacement project
In this work we illustrate a simple logical framework serving the purpose of assessing the economic profitability and measuring value creation in a solar photovoltaic (PhV) project and, in general, in a replacement project where the cash-flow stream is nonnegative, with some strictly positive cash flows. We use the projected accounting data to compute the average ROI, building upon Magni (2011, 2019) (see also Magni and Marchioni 2018), which enables retrieving information on the role of the project’s economic efficiency and the role of the project scale on increasing shareholders’ wealth. The average ROI is a genuinely internal measure and does not suffer from the pitfalls of the internal rate of return (IRR), which may be particularly critical in replacement projects such as the purchase of a PhV plant aimed at replacing conventional retail supplies of electricity

Introduzione [a: Lauree e abilitazione all'insegnamento.
