The Nexus between Green Perceived Quality, Green Satisfaction, Green Trust, and Customers’ Green Behavioral Intentions in Eco-Friendly Hotels: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach

No full text
With the growing awareness of the climate change effects, hotel customers progressively intend to favor green products and services that minimize adverse environmental effects. The key factors affecting customers’ green behavioral intentions in the hospitality industry context are still under research. Accordingly, this study primarily aims at empirically investigating the nexus between green perceived quality (GPQ), green satisfaction (GS), green trust (GT), and customers’ green behavioral intentions (CGBIs) in a sample of five-star eco-friendly hotels in Egypt. More specifically, the study first endeavors to investigate the direct impact of GPQ on GS, GT, and CGBIs besides exploring the direct impact of GS and GT on CGBIs in addition to examining the potential effect of GS and GT as mediators in the nexus between GPQ and CGBIs. To achieve the study’s aim and associated objectives, a self-administrated questionnaire was developed and distributed to a convenience sample of local guests staying at certified five-green star hotels. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed, and only 304 valid forms, representing 60.8%, were used in the statistical analysis. Seven hypotheses, reflecting the direct and indirect relationships between study constructs, were examined by using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with bootstrapping technique. The study findings revealed that GS, GT as well as CGBIs are significantly positively affected by GPQ, respectively. Furthermore, GT and GS have a significant positive effect on CGBIs. Moreover, GT as well as GS partially mediate the nexus between GPQ and CGBIs. From the previous findings, it could be concluded that the increase in investment in enhancing GPQ significantly contributes to the improvement in GS, GT, and CGBIs. Additionally, the higher the GT, GPQ, and GS, the greater the revisit intention to green hotels, positive green word-of-mouth (GWoM), and intention to pay a premium for staying in environmentally friendly hotels. As a result, for enhancing CGBIs and sustaining a customer-hotel long-term relationship, hotel operators should make efforts towards maintaining GT, improving GPQ, and increasing customers’ GS as key predictors of CGBIs in the hotel industry context

In Egypt, limited studies were performed to investigate Jhon’s disease (JD) caused by Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). This study was concerned with diagnosis of MAP in cattle dairy farms using indirect-ELISA technique and amplification of IS900 using PCR technique for confirmation of infection and investigated adequate diagnostic markers for MAP through determining hemato-biochemical profile in cattle dairy farms. Screening of MAP was done by indirect ELISA between the periods from January 2017 to June 2018. A total of 200 cows suffered from persistent diarrhea (n=17) and apparently healthy cows in contact with them (n=183) were used in this study. Positive JD was reported in 62 cases (31%) and negative JD was reported in 138 cases (69%). Out of the positive JD, 17 cases were clinically affected by persistent diarrhea and weight loss (clinical JD), where 45 cases were apparently healthy (sub-clinical JD). Typical colonies of MAP were isolated from the fecal samples of clinically affected cows with positive staining of MAP bacilli. Amplification of IS900 using PCR technique confirmed the presence of MAP infection. Phylogenetic analysis revealed identical similarities with MAP strains in India and Egypt. Hemato-biochemical investigations revealed significant decrease in RBCs, PCV, total protein, globulin and glucose with non-significant change in oxidative stress markers in clinically affected cows. This study is considered one of the limited researches that highlight the role of MAP infection in dairy farms in Egypt.Key words: dairy cattle; ELISA; IS900; Johne’s disease; MA

The yagé aesthetic of William Burroughs: the publication and development of his work 1953-1965

PhDMy concern in this thesis is to show that a reconstruction of the publishing history of the work of William Burroughs offers a new, critical perspective on his experiments with psychoactive substances and their connection to his developing practice. I begin with an exploration of the publication of The Yage Letters (1963) and Naked Lunch (1959), and reveal how the complexities of their publishing histories shaped their critical reception. I examine the legal defence of Naked Lunch as it developed from the Big Table Post Office hearing through to the 1965 Boston trial and demonstrate the degree to which censorship came to define the published text. The legal defence of Naked Lunch, as it was incorporated into the Grove publication, emphasised the issue of opiate addiction. The way in which Burroughs’ 1953 letters to Allen Ginsberg were reworked as The Yage Letters did much to conceal the significance of yagé for Burroughs’ later work. Together, these publishing histories have obscured the relationship between his use of psychoactive substances and his evolving aesthetic. At the same time many of Burroughs’ most experimental - and important - works appeared only in small, ephemeral magazines. His adoption of avant-garde strategies such as collaboration and collage and his dedication to multimedia experimentation with the non-chemical alteration of consciousness made conventional book publication problematic or unsuitable. These experiments in aesthetic production, I argue, are central to our understanding of Burroughs. His main published writings must be re-evaluated as one element in this collage of multimedia activities. 4 I argue that Burroughs’ experiences with yagé, mescaline and dimethyltryptamine exerted an influence on his shift to experimentalism in the early 1960s, which sought to replicate the experience of these altered states of consciousness. That this is so is evident from a study of two collections of correspondence - Burroughs’ letters to Ginsberg held at Columbia University Library and his letters to Brion Gysin in the William S. Burroughs Papers held at the New York Public Library. My reading of these letters forms an important component of my argument, working to reveal what the conventional ‘published’ Burroughs serves to conceal.Arts and Humanities research Board. Effect of weight loss program using prebiotics and probiotics on body composition, physique, and metabolic products: longitudinal intervention study

No full text
Abstract The relationship between gut microbiota and obesity has recently been an important subject for research as the gut microbiota is thought to affect body homeostasis including body weight and composition, intervening with pro and prebiotics is an intelligent possible way for obesity management. To evaluate the effect of hypo caloric adequate fiber regimen with probiotic supplementation and physical exercise, whether it will have a good impact on health, body composition, and physique among obese Egyptian women or has no significant effect. The enrolled 58 women, in this longitudinal follow-up intervention study; followed a weight loss eating regimen (prebiotic), including a low-carbohydrate adequate-fiber adequate-protein dietary pattern with decreased energy intake. They additionally received daily probiotic supplements in the form of yogurt and were instructed to exercise regularly for 3 months. Anthropometric measurements, body composition, laboratory investigations, and microbiota analysis were obtained before and after the 3 months weight loss program. Statistically highly significant differences in the anthropometry, body composition parameters: and obesity-related biomarkers (Leptin, ALT, and AST) between the pre and post-follow-up measurements at the end of the study as they were all decreased. The prebiotic and probiotic supplementation induced statistically highly significant alterations in the composition of the gut microbiota with increased relative abundance of Lactobacillus, Bifidobacteria, and Bacteroidetes and decreased relative abundance of Firmicutes and Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes Ratio. Hypo caloric adequate fiber regimen diet with probiotics positively impacts body composition and is effective for weight loss normalizing serum Leptin and AST

Azorín, enfermo y escritor, ante la medicina

The paper studies the relationship of Azorin with medicine from a different approach which often takes the critical who interpreted the presence of the disease in his work as a metaphor for the crisis of the crisis of the end of the century. Our work examines scientific and real terms, as the suffering experienced by the author himself, who projected his pathology to fictional characters, we investigated, in addition to exposing the characteristics of disease and its therapeutic and his interest in all kinds of medical literature, ancient and recent.

The state scale of dissociation : development, psychometric validation, and application in a study of concurrent electro-encephalographic correlates

No full text
The distinction between state and trait dissociation informed the development and psychometric validation of the State Scale of Dissociation (SSD) and the study of concurrent electro-encephalographic (EEG) correlates of experimentally induced dissociative states. Existing scales measure trait dissociation. The need for a state scale was addressed by the development and testing of a present-state, self-report measure. Fifty-eight preliminary items were sorted into 7 subscales: derealisation, depersonalisation, identity confusion, identity alteration, conversion, amnesia, and hypermnesia. A revised 56-item SSD was administered with other psychiatric scales (DES, BDI, BAI, SCI-PANSS) to patients with DSM-IV major depressive disorder (n=19), schizophrenia (n=18), alcohol withdrawal (n=20), dissociative disorders (n=10), and controls (n=63). The SSD was demonstrated to be a valid and reliable measure of severity, and changes in severity, of dissociation at the time of its completion. Discriminant validity, content, concurrent, predictive, internal criterionrelated, internal construct, and convergent validities were confirmed statistically by factor analysis, Spearman's rho correlations, confidence intervals, predictive analysis, and parametric and non-parametric comparisons of dependent and independent samples. It showed high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.97) and high splithalf reliability (Guttman coefficient = 0.92). The conversion subscale clustered with the other subscales into one general factor on factor analysis and did not support its segregation from dissociative disorders in DSM-IV. State characteristics of dissociation were also examined in 11 patients with complex partial epilepsy. The relationship between concurrent EEG and experimentally induced dissociative states was examined by repeated SSD and baseline DES measurements after spectral analysis of EEG. Canonical analysis demonstrated significant SSD-EEG correlations. Amnesia, identity alteration, and identity confusion correlated with theta, frontal delta, and fast wave EEG activity respectively. The SSD now allows for further investigation of the suggested state continuum of severity and trait continuum of frequency of dissociation in more comprehensive studies of concurrent neurobiological correlates

Global variation in anastomosis and end colostomy formation following left-sided colorectal resection

No full text
none3427noBackground: End colostomy rates following colorectal resection vary across institutions in high-income settings, being influenced by patient, disease, surgeon and system factors. This study aimed to assess global variation in end colostomy rates after left-sided colorectal resection. Methods: This study comprised an analysis of GlobalSurg-1 and-2 international, prospective, observational cohort studies (2014, 2016), including consecutive adult patients undergoing elective or emergency left-sided colorectal resection within discrete 2-week windows. Countries were grouped into high-, middle-and low-income tertiles according to the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI). Factors associated with colostomy formation versus primary anastomosis were explored using a multilevel, multivariable logistic regression model. Results: In total, 1635 patients from 242 hospitals in 57 countries undergoing left-sided colorectal resection were included: 113 (6·9 per cent) from low-HDI, 254 (15·5 per cent) from middle-HDI and 1268 (77·6 percent) from high-HDI countries. There was a higher proportion of patients with perforated disease (57·5, 40·9 and 35·4 per cent; P < 0·001) and subsequent use of end colostomy (52·2, 24·8 and 18·9 per cent; P < 0·001) in low-compared with middle-and high-HDI settings. The association with colostomy use in low-HDI settings persisted (odds ratio (OR) 3·20, 95 per cent c.i. 1·35 to 7·57; P = 0·008) after risk adjustment for malignant disease (OR 2·34, 1·65 to 3·32; P < 0·001), emergency surgery (OR 4·08, 2·73 to 6·10; P < 0·001), time to operation at least 48 h (OR 1·99, 1·28 to 3·09; P = 0·002) and disease perforation (OR 4·00, 2·81 to 5·69; P < 0·001). Conclusion: Global differences existed in the proportion of patients receiving end stomas after left-sided colorectal resection based on income, which went beyond case mix alone.noneGlasbey, James C; 3427sinoneBackground: End colostomy rates following colorectal resection vary across institutions in high-income settings, being influenced by patient, disease, surgeon and system factors. Conclusion: Global differences existed in the proportion of patients receiving end stomas after left-sided colorectal resection based on income, which went beyond case mix alone.noneGlasbey, James C; The regional geopolitics of the strait of Gibraltar

No full text
Security of passage of the Strait of Gibraltar is an imperative for the world community. To achieve this, there must be stability on the northern and southern shores of the Strait. Peace in the region is currently threatened by the "creeping jurisdiction" which both Spain and Morocco wish to exert over the waters of the Strait. Other factors which threaten stability are the historical rivalry which exists between Spain and the Islamic southern shore; the legacy of disputed sovereignty in the Crown Colony of Gibraltar and the Spanish Plazas in North Africa; the economic divide betwen the EC and Maghreb along the Strait axis; and the possible threat of militant Islam. Contentions also exist between Morocco and Algeria, eg the Western Saharan War. The re-establishment of a strong "power hierarchy" in the area must be supported by such international instruments as the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982). The Crown Colony and the Spanish Plazas must be decolonized once Spain is firmly integrated into the EC and NATO, and once Morocco has reached a level of economic and political development that is condusive to closer ties with Western institutions
