Graph-based entity resolution and completion for academic knowledge graphs
Curs: 2023-2024. Tutor: Dimitri Marinelli i Albert Díaz Guilera[en] This thesis explores graph-based entity resolution and completion within academic knowledge graphs, focusing on the complex relationships between authors and papers and between papers themselves using Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). Raw data sourced from the American Physical Society underwent meticulous data cleaning and entity resolution analysis to prepare it for the proposed network. Author grouping strategies and citation overlap were examined, revealing distinct clusters of researchers and insightful patterns in citation relationships. A GNN model was developed using SAGEConv layers and heterogeneous transformations to capture local graph structures for accurate link prediction. This model was optimized with mini-batch loading and edge-level splits, which contributed to its high accuracy in predicting links between authors and papers, as demonstrated in the evaluation.
The findings underscore the model’s capability to uncover hidden relationships and trends within the academic graph. Future work could enhance the model by incorporating additional features, experimenting with alternative GNN architectures, and including more detailed citation contexts and collaboration networks. Overall, this thesis highlights the transformative potential of GNNs in entity resolution and completion for academic knowledge graphs
Statistical Complex Analysis of Taxi Mobility in San Francisco
English: The recent developments in technology of movement tracking devices such as Global Positioning (GPS), together with the increasing availability of consistent data bases, have lately given rise to the study of human mobility patterns in different environments. In this work a statistical characterization of real mobility GPS high-frequency data from taxis in San Francisco is performed. The di_erent patterns taxi drivers and customers follow are shown through comparing behavior when cabs are empty or full and the information is presented using a weighted directed complex network metric, from which the author obtains some topological information such as correlations between nodes, assortativity and clustering. Some adapted measurements to weighted nets are presented together with some remarks to support the need for new tools for assortativity classification

Alarcos, un maestro en la distancia
Alarcos, un masestro en la distancia, compiles the main influences of the outstanding linguist and literary critic, among those who, like the author of the text, were not lucky enough to be one of his students. In this light, the text reviews the main contributions of Alarcos.

In this article Carme Riera talks about Marçal as a short-story writer, aspect of the author which is less discussed than her poems and novels, but, according to Riera, not at all insignificant. She discusses the three short stories Marçal wrote for adults: Joc de màscares, El retorn and Tronatrons (unpublished). Riera refers to the game of intertextualtity in Marçal’s work; Joc de màscares, which takes Riera´s novel, Te deix, amor, la mar com a penyora, as a starting point, and Tronatrons, which Riera feels could well be intended to pay a tribute to Víctor Català, whose work was well-known by Marçal. Finally, the author of this article talks about the importance of the recurring motif of the mirror in Marçal´s work, both in her poetry and novels
These thesis analyses the joola identity on the present situation in Casamance (Senegal). The author -who has been doing field research in the region for more than one and a half year- focalises his study in a joola village, called Oussouye, in a Base-Casamance community, the Húluuf. Oussouye is also the main town of the kingdom of Bubajum Áai. These thesis analyses the influence of differents subjects as local history, family structures, village identity, traditional religion and catholicism, traditional education and school, on the present-day joola identity. Finally these thesis analyses the role of tradition among the Joola-Húluuf of Oussouye. It underlines that the Joola are not homogeneous and that Joola tradition is local and particularistic. In Oussouye, there has been since the 1980s a reconciliation of the Catholics and followers of traditional religion (awaseena), which has increased participation in such traditional rituals as male initiation, has reemphasized the traditional shrines, and has made the sacred-king a more central figure. Though Abbé Augustin Diamacoune (the leader of the independentist mouvement MFDC-Mouvement des Forces Démocratiques de Casamance) comes from a village near Oussouye, most joola-húluuf people identify neither with the independentist nationalism of the rebels, nor with the loyalist nationalism of the Senegalese state. The rebels have the support of none of the traditional priests of Húluuf, but at the same time, most local people see the Senegalese state as alien. The king Sibilumbay (enthroned on 2000), whose role traditionally was to assure harmony, peace, and the rice harvest, has put pressure on both sides to respect the desire for peace in Oussouye
