Research Design for Investigations at the Ruben Hancock Site, 41TV875 Travis County, Texas
The Ruben Hancock Site (41TV875) is located on the centerline of the extension of Parmer Lane. This extension begins at FM 1325 (Burnet Road) and terminates at FM 620. The site was found during a survey of the right-of-way conducted by the author on the 9th of August, 1984. Other sites were found during the survey but were too ephemeral or too disturbed to warrant further investigation. It was judged at the time of the survey that the Ruben Hancock Site, because of its undisturbed condition and the presence of metal and glass artifacts, warranted further investigation. It was suggested that the testing consist of a metal detector survey.
The metal detector survey indicated the presence of buried metallic artifacts in a core area. The results indicate that there are both exposed and buried at the site (Appendix I).
In accordance with Procedures for the Protection of Historic and Cultural Properties (36 CFR, Part 800), prescribed and endorsed by the Federal Highway Administration, and in concurrence with the Office of the State Historic Preservation Officer, affected sites were evaluated with regard to their potential for eligibility for inclusion within the National Register for Mistoric Places. The sites likewise were evaluated for their suitability as state archaeological landmarks since they will be on state land once the right-of-way has been purchased and will fall under the aegis of Texas Antiquities Code
Archaeological Testing and Preliminary Archival Investigations of the Ruben Hancock Site, 41TV875 Travis County, Texas

A grid was laid out promptly and accurately on the site by the survey crew of the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) District 14 headquarters. Harry Johnson of the Right-of-way Division of District 14 secured permission from the property owners (Burnet Road Land Joint Venture, through Mr. Scott Ripley) for metal detector survey. Edward Sutherland of District 14 coordinated the District 14 activities. At the Highway Design Environmental and Community Factors Section, James W. Barr and Frank A. Weir coordinated with the District. Tom Gorman aided in testing the metal detectors. Milton Bell, Jerry Henderson, Clyde Bullion, Ann Irwin, and Marilyn Rotter of the SDHPT Archaeology Section provided administrative, production, research, and secretarial support
Desenvolvimento e reprodução da mosca-do-mediterrâneo em caquizeiro, macieira, pessegueiro e videira
O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever o desenvolvimento e reprodução de Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae) em frutos de caqui 'Fuyu', maçã 'Gala', pêssego 'Maciel' e uva 'Itália'. Foram feitas avaliações quanto a: duração e viabilidade do ovo, duração do estágio larval, peso de pupa, duração e viabilidade da pupa, duração do período ovo-adulto, razão sexual, período de pré-oviposição e oviposição, fecundidade diária e total e longevidade de machos e fêmeas. A maior duração do período ovo-adulto ocorreu em maçã, em consequência do aumento do estágio larval, seguido por uva, caqui e pêssego. Larvas que se alimentaram de pêssego apresentaram maior peso médio de pupa. A maior viabilidade pupal foi registrada em pêssego, equivalente à de uva e caqui. O período de pré-oviposição foi maior para fêmeas provenientes de maçã e uva. Fêmeas provenientes de pêssego apresentaram período de oviposição mais longo, além de maior fecundidade média diária e fecundidade total. A longevidade de adultos foi superior em insetos criados em pêssego. Frutos de pessegueiro são mais adequados para o desenvolvimento de C. capitata, em comparação aos de caqui, maçã e uva

Introduction: Fruit flies are among the most damaging agricultural pests worldwide. To combat their devastating impacts on a wide variety of crops, most growers rely on organophosphate insecticides to manage these pests in their fields. Overuse of organophosphates has been implicated in secondary pest outbreaks, negative impacts on beneficial insects, environmental contamination, hazards to human health, and resistance development. Introduction: Semiochemicals (chemicals impacting insect behavior) have been employed in species-specific, ecologically friendly insect pest control strategies through a wide variety of mechanisms, many of which do not require the application of conventional insecticides. These include mating disruption?application of sex pheromones in such a way that male insects are unable to locate a female mate, reducing the size of the pest population in the treated area over time?mass trapping, and repellency.
