DIANTARA DUA PERAN: R. MOCH. MACHIN KEPALA PENGHULU DAN BUPATI KEDIRI 1942-1960
No full textPada masa Hindia-Belanda lembaga informal Kepengulon ditemukan pada beberapa daerah salah satunya di kabupaten Kediri. Salah satu tokoh penghulu Kediri yaitu R. Moch. Machin merupakan kepala penghulu termuda Hindia-Belanda yang dilantik pada usia 30 tahun. Pada tahun ke-tujuh kepemimpinannya sebagai kepala penghulu, R. Moch. Machin ditarik menjadi bupati Kediri dalam situasi darurat menjelang agresi militer II yang dilancarkan oleh Belanda. Pada penelitian ini terdapat dua rumusan masalah: pertama, apa yang melatarbelakangi pengangkatan R. Moch. Machin sebagai kepala penghulu muda Kediri? Kedua, bagaimana akhirnya R. Moch. Machin diangkat menjadi bupati Kediri? Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana R. Moch. Machin menjadi kepala penghulu muda Kediri yang selanjutnya menjabat sebagai bupati Kediri, serta bagaimana kiprah R. Moch. Machin dalam perannya sebagai kepala penghulu dan bupati Kediri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosio-historis yang meliputi tahapan heuristik, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Beberapa hasil temuan dalam penelitian ini diantaranya: pertama, pelantikan R. Moch. Machin sebagai kepala penghulu termuda Hindia-Belanda termuat dalam surat kabar Bataviasch Nieuwsblaad. Kedua, penunjukkan R. Moch. Machin sebagai bupati pengganti berdasarkan musyawarah para kiai serta saran langsung dari Ir. Soekarno. Ketiga, kontribusi R. Moch. Machin sebagai bupati Kediri antara lain melakukan perbaikan infrastruktur dan rumah-rumah warga akibat serangan militer Belanda serta mendirikan klub sepakbola ‘PERSIK’ Kediri.

No full textThe institutions of kepenghuluan has been established over a long time, during the Dutch East Indies the informal institution of kepenghuluan  was found in several regions, one of which was in Kediri district. One of the figures of head of Kediri R. Moch. Machin, was the  youngest head of the Dutch East Indies, who was appointed at the age of 30. In the seventh year of his leadership as head of the district, R. Moch. Machin was become as regent of Kediri in an emergency situation ahead of the second military aggression launched by the Dutch. In this research, there are two problem formulations: first, what is the background of the appointment of R. Moch. Machin as the young head  penghulu of Kediri? Second, how was R. Moch. Machin finally appointed as regent of Kediri? This research aims to find out how R. Moch. Machin  become the young head penghulu of Kediri, and later served as regent of Kediri, as well as how R. Moch. Machin\u27s achievements in his role as chief penghulu and regent of Kediri. This research uses a socio-historical approach that includes heuristics, verification, interpretation, and histsriography stages. Some of the findings in this research include: first, the inauguration of R. Moch. Machin as the youngest head of the Dutch East Indies was published in the Bataviasch Nieuwsblaad newspaper. Second, the appointment of R. Moch. Machin as replacement regent was based on deliberations from the kiai and direct advice from Ir. Sukarno. Thirdly, R. Moch. Machin’s contributions as regent of Kediri, among other things, carried out repairs to infrastructure and residents\u27 houses due to the Dutch military attack and founded the Kediri \u27PERSIK\u27 football club.Â

Response to N7 induction chemotherapy in children more than one year of age diagnosed with metastatic neuroblastoma treated in UKCCSG centers
No full textBackground. The highest reported metastatic response rate to induction chemotherapy in patients with neuroblastoma has been achieved by Kushner et al. [Kushner et al.: J Clin Oncol 12:26072613,1994; Cheung et al.: Med Pediatr Oncol 36: 227-230, 2001; Kushner et al.: J Clin Oncol 22:4888-4892, 2004] using their N6 and subsequently N7 protocols. This N7 induction was adopted by UKCCSG for new patients in 1999. Methods. Forty-seven children with metastatic neuroblastoma were recruited between 1999 and 2002. They received the N7 intensive chemotherapy protocol, after full staging including evaluation by I-123 mIBG imaging where possible. Results. Thirty patients with positive mIBG scans were evaluable for response, and complete resolution of metastatic disease was obtained in 16 (53.3%). Fourteen patients without positive mIBG scans were evaluated for response according to bone marrow and bone scan data and 11 (78.6%) cleared metastatic disease. The toxicity of this induction therapy was similar to that seen in previous UK protocols, although 14 patients had Brock grade 3 or 4 ototoxicity. Thirty-three patients proceeded to high-dose therapy with no unanticipated toxicities. For the whole group of 44 evaluable patients, the 3-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were 38.3 and 46.7%, respectively. Conclusions. Although feasible in terms of delivery, when used in the UKCCSG centers, this protocol achieved a much lower response rate than in the previously published series in the U

Factors of Convergence and Divergence in Union Membership
No full textThis paper considers to what extent union decline in Britain has been characterised by convergence or divergence in union membership rates for people with different personal and job characteristics. It compares data on individual union membership in 1975, from a period when union membership was high and growing, to data in 2001 data when it is low and has been falling for over twenty years. Some factors of both convergence and divergence are identified. The clearest individual characteristic of convergence is gender. In 1975 there was a big male-female gap in union membership, whilst by 2001 one cannot reject the hypothesis that union membership rates were equal for men and women. The clearest case of divergence is age where the 1975-2001 period sees a widening of the age gap in union membership status. Other factors of convergence are the full- time/part-time status of jobs, ethnicity and workplace size. Other factors of divergence are industry and educational qualifications. Some other factors (like region) are neutral in that their relationship with union membership remains stable through time. Identification of these factors of convergence and divergence should be useful to many parties, including industrial relations scholars and union organisers. Finally, the fact that the magnitude of the relationships between union membership and a number of its determinants have shifted through time illustrates that one should be careful if one wishes to talk about empirical regularities in who is more or less likely to become a trade union member.
