Capability Well-being and Health: Monetary Valuation and Population Normative Data [védés előtt]
Subjective well-being approach, a non-preference-based method, has been steadily gaining popularity for valuing non-market goods like quality-adjusted life year (QALYs). It is an approach that uses econometric regression analysis for the estimation of a shadow price for non-market goods. Moving beyond the QALY, capability instruments have in recent years been hailed for providing broader evaluative potential for measuring well-being. In this study, an estimation of the monetary value of a year in full capability (YFC) was calculated and compared to monetary value of a QALY for the Hungarian population. Another important element of healthcare that decision makers need to consider is the different patient groups and the general population. Population norms based on a large representative general population sample in Hungary will be presented to compare VAS and capability scores. Data for the study was obtained from a cross sectional, representative online survey on the Hungarian population (aged 18 and above). Socio-demographic data such as gender, age, level of education, employment status, marital status, monthly net household income, and household size were collected. Survey questions covered subjects of interest such as wellbeing, health, satisfaction, and happiness using standardized questionnaires namely: VAS, ICECAP-A, FSSQ, and SWLS. What was found was that health (VAS) and capability (ICECAP-A) and income had a positive and significant effect on SWB. The monetary value of one QALY and one YFC were 35 886 EUR and 52 883 EUR respectively. In terms of population norms, for the overall sample, the average ICECAP-A and VAS score is 0.7 (SD=2.23)
Ehhez először keresztmetszeti, online felmérését végeztünk a magyar felnőtt lakosság körében, összesen 2001 fő bevonásával.
Architectural Engineering +TechnologyArchitecture and The Built Environmen

Musikstädte as real and imaginary soundscapes: urban musical images as literary motifs in twentieth-century German modernism
PhDThis study examines German literary images of musical life as part of the wider sound identity of the modern German city at the turn of the twentieth century. Focussing on a forty-year period from 1890 to 1930, synonymous with the emergence of the modern German metropolis as an aesthetic object, the project assesses, compares and contrasts how musical life in the Musikstädte was perceived and portrayed by writers in an increasingly noisy urban environment. How does urban musical life influence and condition city writings? What are the differences and similarities between the writings on various musical cities? Can an urban textual sound identity be derived from these differences and similarities? The approach employed to answer these questions is a new, cross-disciplinary one to urban sound in literature, moving beyond reading the key sounds of the urban soundscape using urban musicology, sensorial anthropology and cultural poetics towards a literary contextualisation of the urban aural experience.
The literary motifs of the symphony, the gramophone and urban noise are put under the spotlight through the analysis of a wide range of modernist works by authors who have a special relationship with music. At the centre of this analysis are the Kaffeehausliteratur authors Hermann Bahr, Alfred Polgar and Peter Altenberg, the then Munich-based author Thomas Mann and the lesser known René Schickele. The analysis of these particular works is framed in the music-geographical context of the Musikstadt and literary underpinnings of this topos, ranging from Ingeborg Bachmann to Hans Mayer and, once again, Thomas Mann. In analysing these texts, the methodological approach devised by Strohm, who identifies the blending of a range of urban sounds as a definition of urban space and identity, is applied. His ideas combine historical literary
analysis, musical history and urban sociology. They are rarely used in the analysis of the auditory environment.Arts and Humanities Research Council

Resultaat is een nieuw studierapport van Stutech-studiegroep 68 ‘Nabehandeling’.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Materials and Environmen
On the problem of the name and the data of the establishment of the Byzantine thema in Taurica
The author examines the problems connected with the original history of Byzantine thema in Taurica. Critical reading of the known written sources on this problem enables us to make more precise the date of establishing thema in the Crimea and date this event back to the spring-summer of 841. At first in Byzantine sources the Crimean thema was known as ‘’Klimata”. The analysis of the data in historic and hagiographie works, official church documents, sphragistic material shows that in the sources of the 9th-10th centuries this term meant the regions of Taurica, which were a part of the Byzantine empire or which were under her political and cultural influence. In territory they were bounded by the fortresses Cherson in the west and Bosporos in the east. In more specific aspect ‘’Klimata” are administrative units, into which the territory of Taurica was divided. Hence, it is in order that this name of a newly established thema on the territory of Taurica is used
Alan Cobley (ed.), From Cattle-herding to Editor’s Chair: The Unfinished Autobiography and Writings of Richard Victor Selope Thema
The Van Riebeeck Society (VRS) plays a critical role by making primary sources of history available to the public. Established in August 1918, the society was founded “to print or reprint for distribution among the members, and for sale to the public, rare and valuable books, pamphlets and documents relating to the history of Southern Africa”. The publication of Richard Victor Selope Thema’s (1886–1955) autobiography and writings is another milestone for the society. According to Professor Howard Phillips, the chair of the VRS, the publication of Thema’s writings is “a companion piece to the volume published by the VRS in 2012, A.B. Xuma: Autobiography and Selected Works” (p iv) edited by Peter Limb. Dr Xuma (1893– 1962) was not only a contemporary of Thema, but like Thema, he was also an author of note
