Between March and May 2006, 26 specimens of conger eel Conger conger L (Osteichthyes, Congridae) caught from waters near to Sardinian coast, were examined for metazoan parasites. Twenty taxa, thirteen of which identified morphologically to the species level, were recorded. The checklist compiled after this preliminary study includes 2 ectoparasites species, the copepod Hatschekia sp. and the polychaeta Ichthyotomus sanguinarius, and 18 endoparasites species comprising 8 digeneans, 3 cestodes, 6 nematodes and 1 acanthocephala. Most of this parasite species have been previously reported in conger eel from Mediterranean Sea except for Hatschekia sp., Proctoeces maculatus, Scolex pleuronectis and Cucullanus bioccai, new records for this host in the Mediterranean basin

Trophic habits of the Blackbelly rockfish, Helicolenus dactylopterus (Osteichthyes, Scorpaeniformes) in the Sardinian Channel = Alimentazione dello scorfano di fondale, Helicolenus dactylopterus (Osteichthyes, Scorpaeniformes) nel Canale di Sardegna

Feeding habits of Helicolenus dactylopterus in the Sardinian waters were analysed. The tropic spectrum of this commercial species was mainly composed of crustaceans: Decapoda Natantia, Isopoda and Decapoda Brachyura. The diet changed according to the depth distribution and the size of the specimens

Preliminary data on the trophic interactions between Scyliorhinus canicula (Scyliorhinidae) and Raja clavata (Rajidae) in the Central-Western Mediterranean

Preliminary data on the diet and trophic competition between Scyliorhinus canicula and Raja clavata, caught in the seas surrounding Sardinia (central-western Mediterranean),during trawl surveys carried out from 2005 to 2008 are given. The low values of Levin and Shannon-Weaver indexes showed that these two species are specialized predators. The ontogenetic analysis of the diet showed different predatory patterns

First record of Chilomycterus reticulatus (Osteichthyes: Diodontidae) in the Mediterranean Sea

The spotfin burrfish Chilomycterus reticulatus (405 mm standard length) is recorded for the first time on the shoreline of the Mediterranean Sea. The adult specimen was found dried on a beach near the south Sardinian Sea (S. Antioco's Island). Photographs and morphometrics of the specimen are give

Reproductive period of Dipturus oxyrinchus (Elasmobranchii: Rajidae) in Sardinian seas = Periodo ripèroduttivo di Dipturus Oxyrinchus (Elasmobranchii: Rajidae) nei mari sardi

The reproduction of longnosed skate, Dipturus oxyrinchus (Elasmobranchik Rajidae) was studied using 334 specimens from Sardinian waters. Total length of females ranged from 130 to 1155 mm and of males ranged from 154 to 995 mm. The analysis of the monthly distribution of maturity. stages shows that this species has a long spawning period

On the reproduction of Acanthephyra eximia s. I. Smith, 1884 in the central western Mediterranean

Macroscopic and histological analysis were performed on the female gonads of Acanthephyra eximia. The macroscopic observation regarding the changes of the ovaries leads us to identify six stages of development, validated by histological analysis

Preliminary observations of the reproductive biology and diet for the Norwegian skate Dipturus nidarosiensis (Rajidae) from the Central Western Mediterranean Sea

Twenty-three Dipturus nidarosiensis (Collett, 1880) (Elasmobranchii: Rajidae) were collected off the coasts of Sardinia between 550 m and 1688 m of depth in 2005-2011. A first description of some biological aspects as the vertical distribution, the reproduction and the diet of the Norwegian skate from the Central Western Mediterranean is provided. Females attained a greater length than males, they mature at larger sizes and were found mature always at depths of 550-600 m in the same area of the Southern coast of Sardinia. The diet of D. nidarosiensis was based almost entirely on decapod crustaceans and completed by bony fish
