Among oral pathologic lesions, odontomas are the most common odontogenic tumor of the jaws and generally asymptomatic. They are mostly diagnosed as a result of routine radiographic investigation. In this report, we describe a very rare occurrence of bilateral complex odontoma in the region of the mandibular second premolar. Conservative surgical procedure was planned, and removal of the odontomas was carried out through the socket after extraction of the deciduous second molars, and the diagnosis was confirmed with a histopathological study

    Swimmer's Calculus: A Review

    No full text
Dental calculus is a hard deposit that is formed by calcification of dental plaque primarily composed of calcium phosphate mineral salts which is deposited on natural teeth and restorations and is covered by a layer of unmineralized plaque. Swimming is one of the top recreational activities in developed countries, also one of the best forms of exercise, However, there is a lesser-known side-effect of regular swimming. The chlorine that is used in most pools to keep the water clean and kill bacteria, can actually deposit residue on the teeth, turning them brown. This phenomenon is known as swimmer’s calculus. Awareness needs to be created among dental professionals and swimmers regarding prevention and management of swimmer’s calculus

The Designer comes along the time guaranteeing a fundamental part in the process of products creation. There are techniques that aid in the direction of the way to follow and, the methodologies of product development are healthy essential tools ahead a so competed and restricted market. In this sense the present work proposes a methodology of EcoDesign with emphasis in the sustainable development. For such, was analyzed the methodologies, chosen by the appliance and the consolidation that each author transmits, mainly in the academic middle. The authors are recognized by its research techniques and of the initiative of generating not only a methodology, but several alternatives that, in the end of the work, narrow in a same sense: the one of having solved a problem that assists or go besides the customer's need. On the other hand and with propose of checking that the current methodologies don't assist to the sustainable development, some screen centers, junk and urban waste landfill of the Porto Alegre city metropolitan area were visited and observed the final destiny of the industrial products at the end of the circle life. In this sense, intended a methodology of EcoDesign for the development of sustainable products in order to minimize the environmental impacts of the industrial products so much during the conception as during the use and, mainly, at the end of the useful life. The application of the methodology proposal is shown in the case of the air pump for fishbowls where the concepts of EcoDesign through the application of the 3R's (reduce, reuse and to recycle)

Evaluation of micronutrient (Zinc, Magnesium, and Copper) levels in serum and glycemic status after nonsurgical periodontal therapy in type 2 diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis

Aims and Objectives: To find out the effect of nonsurgical periodontal therapy on serum zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), and copper (Cu) concentration and glycemic status in type 2 diabetes with chronic periodontitis (CP). Materials and Methods: One hundred and twenty patients were included in this study, which was further divided into three groups. Group 1 consisted of forty patients with CP, Group 2 consisted of forty patients of CP with controlled diabetes, and Group 3 consisted of forty patients of CP with uncontrolled diabetes. Periodontal parameters such as plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, pocket depth, and clinical attachment levels (CALs) were evaluated. Blood samples were collected to assess the levels of fasting blood sugar, glycosylated hemoglobin, Zn, Mg, and Cu. All parameters were evaluated at baseline and 3 months after nonsurgical periodontal therapy. Results: The results showed statistically significant reduction in all the clinical parameters within the groups except for the CAL in group 1 patients (P = 0.05). The glycemic status also showed a statistically significant reduction after treatment (P < 0.001). The intragroup comparison was taken between the values of micronutrients, showed substantial increase in the levels of both Zn and Mg and decrease in the level of Cu after nonsurgical periodontal treatment (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Patients with diabetes and periodontitis had altered metabolism of Zn, Mg, and Cu contributing to the progression and complication of diabetes mellitus and periodontitis. Nonsurgical periodontal treatment improved the variation and concentration of plasma micronutrients and also the periodontal status and glycemic level

Introduction: Bruxism is habitual involuntary grinding or clenching of teeth that is seen in both children and adults. Diurnal or nocturnal para-functional habit has also been called bruxism. The etiology of bruxism has remained controversial and some investigators believe that psychological factors may play a major role in promoting and perpetuating this habit. Aim of this study is to identify how educational system affects bruxism Materials and methods: 250 students of different educational syllabi were randomly chosen and examined. Questionnaire was given to their respective parents to the bruxism in children Result: Out of 250 children, 147 were studying in state government boards of education, 91 children studying in CBSE, and 12 children studying in montessori system. 60 out of 91 children studying CBSE, and 4 out of 12 children studying montessori system give a history of bruxism. Conclusion: Children studying in CBSE and Montessori had less number of bruxers compared to those children in state board curriculum
