The ALICE Silicon Pixel Detector (SPD)
The ALICE silicon pixel detector (SPD) consists of two layers in the barrel region at small radius (4cm and 7cm, respectively). The main requirements are summarised. The design considerations and development status are reviewed
Photon detection efficiency done for Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (G-APD)
Estimation of the Photon Detect Efficiency (PDE) of multi-pixel Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (G-APD) based on measurements of the G-APD response to low-intensity light is presented. The fit of the light-response spectra takes into account after-pulsing and cross-talk effects and yields the value of initial photons. Using a calibrated photo-detector as a reference, the value of the PDE can be calculated. The sources of systematic error of the obtained PDE is discussed as well as possibility for its minimization. © 2010 by World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd
Measurements of photon dectection efficiency of Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (G-APD)
An estimation of the photon detection efficiency of multi-pixel Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes based on measurements of their response to low-intensity light is presented. Properties of detectors manufactured by different producers are compared. A new fit method of the response spectra to light, taking into account after-pulse and cross-talk effects is proposed to yield the initial number of photons. The value of photon detection efficiency is calculated using a calibrated photodetector as a reference. The sources of systematic error are discussed
Evaluation of Radiation Dose Exposure for Silicon Pixel Detectors in ALICE Experiment
An estimation of radiation dose exposure expected for the Inner Tracking System (ITS) of ALICE experiment at the future LHC collider is presented. In particular, the two innermost layers of the silicon ITS, located at radial distances of 3.9 and 7.6cm are based on hybrid silicon pixel detectors. A possible scenario for the first ten years operation is presented assuming a data taking with beams of lead, calcium and proton
