No full textThe study of amphorae production in Cisalpine Gaul, carried out in the last decades in parallel to Sara Santoro’s research on handcraft production, has identified various groups of containers for the transport of wine. They can be easily identified among the large group of Adriatic wine amphorae (Dressel 6A) on the basis of their morphological characters. In most cases their rich epigraphic apparatus enables us to attribute them to specific workshops and, sometimes, to hypothesize their provenance. The recent discovery of new stamped specimens, found mainly in the Emilian territory, has suggested to revise this topic within a general economic framework
Anfore da olio e anfore da pesce: le analisi archeometriche
No full textPer quanto riguarda le anfore olearie, appare evidente come si possano riconoscere produzioni diversificate, una (o più) delle quali va collocata sicuramente in Istria, altre in zone non meglio precisabili della Venetia, forse dell’Emilia e sicuramente del Picenum. Proprio per verificare questa ultima possibilità sono stati inseriti nei gruppi di riferimento anche campioni di anfore vinarie Dressel 6A, per le quali – ancora una volta in assenza di fornaci – la prosopografia dei bolli ha fatto tradizionalmente propendere per un’origine nella regione: i risultati complessivi appaiono congrui, mentre più anomala, ma statisticamente poco rilevante, è la posizione dei due soli campioni di anfore di probabile origine norditalica (bollate da membri della gens Gavia e Ebidiena), per le quali ovviamente le analisi andranno estese ad altre anfore delle stesse serie.
Le anforette per il trasporto delle salse di pesce sono invece risultate, con qualche eccezione, omogenee dal punto di vista petrografico e geochimico; pur suggerendo dunque le analisi
una medesima zona di produzione almeno per alcune, non è stato possibile ipotizzare una precisa area di provenienza, poiché sono risultate differenti da tutti i materiali di riferimento considerati. Il problema di dove venissero fabbricate rimane pertanto aperto, con tutte le implicazioni qui illustrate nel contributo ad esse dedicato
Le olle romane dello scavo di via Neroniana (Montegrotto Terme - Padova): indagini preliminari
No full textPresented here are the results of a preliminary study on twenty samples of olla-shaped vessels of Roman Time from the excavation area of the Via Neroniana (Montegrotto Terme, Padova, north-eastern Italy). The close morphological affinity between this pottery and coeval samples found in near Modena is at the base of this archaeometrical research. The study focuses
on the distinction between locally produced versus imported objects, definition of the paste preparation technique, and the relationship between morphological and technological-productive features. This archaeometric study identified two groups of local origin and one of imported pottery, indicating that extensive trade between various geographic areas also existed for pottery for everyday use
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
