Global citizenship education concept in Malaysian Japanese language education / Noriko Matsubara
The world today has been facing issues that affect the entire world such as climate change, poverty, and hunger as well as current problems such as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia crisis. These situations remind us of the necessity for all nations, people, and stakeholders to collaborate and work together across countries. Global Citizenship Education (Abbreviated as GCE or GCED, hereafter referred to as GCE in this paper) which aims to foster individuals who understand and contribute to resolving those issues increasingly began to gain more importance and became one of seven outcome targets of Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Quality Education" adopted by United Nations in 2015. This research focuses on the contribution of language education in promoting GCE in Malaysia. This study aims to explore how GCE is reflected in the Japanese language textbooks used in Malaysian secondary schools by analyzing the contents of Japanese language textbooks and identifying the perceptions of Japanese language teachers regarding their awareness of integrating GCE into Japanese language education. The researcher analyzed the textbooks by using content analysis based on UNESCO’s framework of the culture of 2030 indicators (UIS, 2020a) as well as conducted teachers’ perceptions analysis by using a questionnaire survey. The findings of textbooks’ contents analysis revealed that Malaysian Japanese language textbooks have relatively many contents that address GCE mainly with the theme of “Cultural Diversity and Tolerance”, but GCE themes such as “Gender Equality” and “Human Rights” were not found. Thus, more GCE themes should be considered to be included in the contents of future Japanese language textbooks to stimulate critical thinking and wider perspectives of the world among students through language learning. The survey results indicate that many teachers are aware of GCE, but there are gaps in their knowledge. The findings also revealed that although teachers' responses regarding the importance of GCE and incorporating GCE into their teaching were very positive, obstacles such as lack of clear guidance to teachers and lack of inclusion of GCE in the curriculum were identified. From these results, suggestions were drawn that all teachers should be given equal opportunities such as workshops to learn about GCE, and that GCE should be explicitly included in the curriculum. The present research will make a new contribution to incorporating GCE into language education since most researchers analyzed integrating GCE in English Language Teaching (ELT) with little attention paid to other languages such as Japanese language education. In addition, while previous studies focused on either textbook content analysis or language teachers' perceptions, this study employed a combination of the two analyses to give more practical insights into applying GCE in classrooms. This will help syllabus makers and textbook authors in the future when they consider incorporating GCE into language education

Comprehensible output in NNS-NNS interaction in Japanese as a foreign language
Deposited with permission of the author. © 1993 Noriko IwashitaThis study is a partial replication of Pica et al’s study (1989) of comprehensible output, and investigates comprehensible output in NNS-NNS interaction in Japanese as a Foreign Language. Data were collected using two different types of tasks (information gap and jigsaw tasks) in three sub-groups of different proficiency levels (High-High, Low-Low, and High-Low) in order to find out (1) to what extent the tasks provide opportunities for learners to modify their initial output in response to requests for clarification and confirmation, and (2) the extent to which learners actually modify their output in response to interlocutor requests.
The results show that comprehensible output is an important phenomenon in NNS-NNS interaction. Unlike the result of Pica et al, task types had more effect on opportunities for comprehensible output and actual production of comprehensible output than request types. Not much difference was found among different proficiency groups

Reviewing the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (Part II): Priorities for Short-Term Implementation. CEPS Task Force Reports No. 57, 1 March 2006
[From the Introduction]. This report constitutes Part II of the twin reports of the CEPS Task Force on Reviewing the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. The Part I report, which was presented to the UK Presidency on 7 July 2005,1 focused on a number of short-term implementation issues including transparency requirements for the National Allocation Plans (NAPs), the definition of installations, treatment of small installations, new entrants, closure and transfer rules, allocation methodologies, the possibility of opt-ins as well as monitoring, reporting and verification. This follow-up Part II report examines deep-seated topics such as whether the EU Emission Trading System (ETS) contributes to meeting Kyoto Protocol targets, economic impacts, effects on investment and the potential inclusion of aviation. These issues lie at the interface of NAP phase II and the longterm formal 2006 review. Neither of the two reports (Part I or Part II) examines issues related to the formal review of the EU ETS, which the Directive calls for no later than June 2006. Since this formal review, which will lead to an amendment of the Directive by co-decision, is likely to trigger a fundamental and longer-term debate, it is being treated in a separate CEPS Task Force launched in early 2006. After a status report of the ETS and a reminder of some fundamentals in sections 1 and 2, the following sections cover investment incentives (3), competitiveness (4 and 5) and aviation (6). The main findings of the report are contained in the Executive Summary, including Key Messages & Recommendations and an extended Full Summary. Appendix 1 presents a list of members of the Task Force and invited guests and speakers
19世紀アメリカの女性のリフォームドレスについて : 女性と「パンツ」
The mainstream of the western women’s style of clothing during the nineteenth century was long dresses corseted thinly at the waist, with many layered spread skirts. In the mid-nineteenth century, the women’s reform dress movement occurred in the United States, where Bloomers style (Bloomers) became popular in 1851. In Bloomers style, women wore loose’ pants’ under a short skirt dress. This style became a boomed at that time and became a major epidemic, even affecting European women’s. fashion. However, it did not take root as a fashion style. Why was such a fashion style’ different from the other styles of that era born? The author noticed that before the’ Bloomer Costume’ in 1851, women were wearing ‘pant’ on various examples of wearing ‘pants’ in the early 19 th century in the United States, the author examines how the Bloomer style was born
