Imaging nuclear, endoplasmic reticulum and plasma membrane events in real time
Live cell imaging can provide important information on cellular dynamics; however, the full utilisation of this technology has been hampered by the limitations of imaging reagents. Metal-based complexes have the potential to overcome many of the issues common to many current imaging agents. The rhenium (I)-based complex fac-[Re(CO)3 (1,10-phenanthroline)(4-pyridyltetrazolate)], herein referred to as ReZolve-ER(™) , shows promise as a live cell imaging agent with rapid cell uptake, low cytotoxicity, resistance to photobleaching and compatibility with multicolour imaging. ReZolve-ER(™) localised to the nuclear membrane/endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and allowed the detection of exocytotic events at the plasma membrane. Thus, we present a new imaging agent for monitoring live cell events in real time, which is ideal for imaging either short- or long-time courses.Christie A. Bader, Alexandra Sorvina, Peter V. Lanthanoid tetrazole coordination complexes
While tetrazole derivatives are well established as anionic ligands for d-block elements, there is a growing interest in lanthanoid complexes of these compounds. Diverse structural chemistry results from the presence of four potential donor N atoms, and the conjugated nature of the heterocycle can impact on the photophysical properties of the complexes. This review examines the range of structurally characterised lanthanoid–tetrazolato complexes, focussing on the structural features of the ligand that impact on the tendency to interact with the first or second coordination spheres

Using PROV and Blockchain to Achieve Health Data Provenance
Provenance is the foundation of data quality, usually implemented by automatically capturing the trace of data manipulation over space and time. In healthcare, provenance becomes critical since it encompasses both clinical research and patient safety. In this proposal we aim at exploiting and innovating existing health IT deployments by enabling data provenance queries for all kind of clinical information from anywhere. The proposed technical solution exploits the novelty and the peer-to-peer fashion of the blockchain technology and smart-contracts to instrument international standards such as IHE and HL7 with a provenance system robust to fraudulences
Tudor Translation in Theory and Practice
Filling a gap in the study of early modern literature, Massimiliano Morini here exhaustively examines the aims, strategies, practice and theoretical ideas of the sixteenth-century translator. Morini analyzes early modern English translations of works by French and Italian essayists and poets, including Montaigne, Castiglione, Ariosto and Tasso, and of works by classical writers such as Virgil and Petrarch. In the process, he demonstrates how connected translation is with other cultural and literary issues: women as writers, literary relations between Italy and England, the nature of the author, and changes in the English language. Since English Tudor writers, unlike their Italian contemporaries, did not write theoretical treatises, the author works empirically to extrapolate the theory that informs the practice of Tudor translation - he deduces several cogent theoretical principles from the metaphors and figures of speech used by translators to describe translation. Employing a good blend of theory and practice, the author presents the Tudor period as a crucial transitional moment in the history of translation, from the medieval tradition (which in secular literature often entailed radical departure from the original) to the more subtle modern tradition (which prizes the invisibility of the translator and fluency of the translated text). Morini points out that this is also a period during which ideas about language and about the position of England on the political and cultural map of Europe undergo dramatic change, and he convincingly argues that the practice of translation changes as new humanistic methods are adapted to the needs of a country that is expanding its empire

A fluorescent and solvatochromic 1,8-naphthalimide probe for detection of lipid droplet trafficking and biogenesis
Data source: Supplementary data, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dyepig.2023.111382We present a highly fluorescent, solvatochromic, 1,8-naphthalimide for simultaneous imaging of lipid droplets and endoplasmic reticulum, with distinguishable emission maxima. By delineating organelles based on their emission profiles, lipid droplet biogenesis and intercellular trafficking events are visualised. The probe also stains myelin lipids in ex vivo brain tissue, indicating histochemical applications.Shane M. Hickey, Ian R.D. Johnson, Elena Dallerba, Mark J.
