Influence of treatment with pioglitazone on the process of healing of oral ulcers in rats.
No full textAs úlceras traumáticas orais (UTO) são processos dolorosos significativos em cavidade oral que trazem desconforto e dificuldade alimentar. Fármacos com potencial antiinflamatório são importantes ferramentas farmacológicas no controle dos sintomas das UTO. A pioglitazona é um agonista dos receptores ativados por proliferadores de peroxissoma gamma (PPARy) utilizados no controle da hiperglicemia, apresentando potencial pró-cicatrizante por mecanismos envolvendo bloqueio do Fator de Transcrição Nuclear kappa B (NF-kB) e citocinas pro inflamatórias como o Fator de Necrose Tumoral alfa (TNF-α) e Interleucina 1 beta (IL-1β), mediadores fortemente associados com o retardo de cicatrização das UTO. O objetivo desse estudo é avaliar a influência da pioglitazona no processo de cicatrização de UTO em ratos. Para isso 128 ratas Wistar (180-220g) foram aleatoriamente divididas em um grupo controle (GC) tratado com solução salina (0,1 ml / kg) e três grupos testes tratados com pioglitazona 5 (PIO5) 15 (PIO15) ou 45 (PIO45) 45 mg/kg por gavagem diariamente de antes da indução da UTO até a eutanásia após 1, 3, 7 e 14 dias (n=8/grupo/dia). Um punch de 6 mm de diâmetro e 1mm de profundidade foi usado para confecção das UTO. Os resultados foram expressos em forma de média ± erro-padrão ou mediana (mínima e máxima) e submetidos aos testes ANOVA (1-way ou 2-way)/Bonferroni ou Kruskal-Wallis/Dunn (p<0,05, GraphPad Prism 5.0). Comparando os grupos tratados com pioglitazona 5, 15 e 45 mg/kg/dia ao grupo controle tratado com solução salina, podemos confirmar o potencial efeito anti-inflamatório da Pioglitazona. Além da atividade antiinflamatória podemos confirmar também a inibição do recrutamento de neutrófilos para os locais de inflamação.Traumatic oral ulcers (UTO) are painful processes influenced by the oral cavity that cause discomfort and difficulty eating. Drugs with anti-inflammatory potential are important pharmacological tools to control UTO symptoms. Pioglitazone is a gamma peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPARy) agonist used to control hyperglycemia, with pro-healing potential through mechanisms involving the blockade of Nuclear Transcription Factor kappa B (NF-kB) and pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-α) and Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), mediators strongly associated with delayed wound healing. UTO. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of pioglitazone on the UTO healing process in rats. For this, 128 Wistar rats (180-220g) were randomly divided into a control group (CG) treated with saline solution (0.1 ml/kg) and three groups of testes treated with pioglitazone 5 (PIO5) 15 (PIO15) or 45 (PIO45) 45 mg/kg by gavage daily from before UTO induction until euthanasia after 1, 3, 7 and 14 days ( n=8/group/day). A 6 mm diameter and 1 mm deep punch was used to make the UTO. Results were expressed as mean ± standard error or median (minimum and maximum) and presented using ANOVA (1-way or 2-way)/Bonferroni or Kruskal-Wallis/Dunn tests (p<0.05, GraphPad Prism 5.0). Comparing the groups treated with pioglitazone 5, 15 and 45 mg/kg/day to the control group treated with saline solution, we can confirm the potential anti-inflammatory effect of pioglitazone. In addition to anti-inflammatory activity, we can also confirm the recruitment of neutrophils to sites of inflammation
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
