The Irish Maritime Transport Economist Volume 7

The Irish Maritime Development Office (IMDO) of the Marine Institute publishes the Irish Maritime Transport Economist each year to provide a descriptive statistical analysis of the Irish ports and shipping services sector, as well as the many factors influencing its performance. This is our 7th annual edition of the Irish Transport Economist and it is, undoubtedly, the bleakest review that we have published to date. Overall, in terms of content and analysis for 2009, there are very few positives to report, with almost no growth in any area over the course of the year. The relentless unwinding of the economy last year was, again, clearly illustrated in the continued abrupt correction in volume throughput at our ports. Nonetheless, while the trend for 2009 was negative, we observed that the pace of decline in economic activity moderated significantly since last spring with some volume recovery in several of our domestic shipping segments recorded to the year end. As we look forward to 2010, we do so with some optimism, that both economically and sectorally, we have passed the trough of the economic downturn and that the economy will exit recession this year with a return to growth in 2011

The book with the title “Maritime Digitalization and Decarbonization: A Sustainable Future” is the second major outcome following the publication of the Proceedings of WMU Maritime Week (WMW) 2024. The purpose of WMU Maritime Week 2024 (WMW) was to convene experts from diverse sectors to discuss contemporary maritime issues, generate practical and academic insights, and contribute to the advancement of the international maritime community. Following the success of WMW 2024, the aim is to deliver a top-notch annual conference in the maritime field, producing practical and academic outputs through in-depth discussions of critical contemporary issues in the maritime field. WMW 2024 featured 36 presentations and 10 keynote addresses, resulting in 17 voluntarily submitted book chapters. The chapters were organized into four sections: Technology, Regulation, Policy, and Information. Among the 17 chapters, 10 were revised based on editorial reviews, while 7 chapters were included as originally submitted due to time constraints or the conceptual nature of their content. Based on conference topics, the submitted chapters were categorized into four themes for inclusion in this book: Part 1: Technology (7 chapters), Part 2: Regulation (3 chapters), Part 3: Policy (4 chapters), and Part 4: Information paper (3 chapters). Some chapters address a combination of technology, policy, and regulation. In cases where themes overlap, they are classified based on the predominant focus.https://commons.wmu.se/lib_books/1012/thumbnail.jp

On 24 September 2019, the World Maritime University released Conference Report for the WMU Third International Women\u27s Conference on Empowering Women in the Maritime Community that was held in April of the same year. The conference brought maritime and ocean stakeholders together at WMU to discuss the common challenge of gender equality and to address the gender gap in the maritime, oceans, ports, fishing and related industries. As a result of the two-day event, over 350 participants from more than 70 countries adopted conclusions identifying 17 actions that could be taken to advance gender balance in the maritime and oceans sectors. The conclusions serve as best practice guidance for all stakeholders committed to action focused on increasing gender balance across maritime and ocean industries. In addition to the conclusions, the Conference Report summarizes the most significant outcomes of the Conference by session and speaker.https://commons.wmu.se/lib_reports/1075/thumbnail.jp

Le droit maritime dans tous ses états

    No full text

A culture of adjustment : evaluating the implementation of the current maritime regulatory framework on rest and work hours (EVREST).

Underreporting of work hours or adjustment of work/rest hour records1 has been suggested by previous research to be a common practice in the shipping sector. With this starting point, the World Maritime University has conducted exploratory research into the implementation of the current regulatory and administrative framework on work and rest hours. The associated research activities broadly aimed to achieve the following: 1. Investigate stakeholder perceptions of the capacity of the current international regulatory framework to effectively prevent fatigue; 2. To assess the barriers to effective implementation on board ships; and 3. To evaluate the level of compliance with the current regulatory regime.https://commons.wmu.se/lib_reports/1079/thumbnail.jp
