Studio di miscele multicomponente di liquidi ionici e composti molecolari
Ionic Liquids (ILs) are presently one of the hot topics in modern Chemistry. These
compounds are basically salts having melting points below 100°C and typical features of
great appeal in so many fields that I will not even attempt to number them, spanning from
synthesis, industrial interest up to waste recycle .
A number of 10^18 possible different ILs has been estimated and, nowadays, just a very
small fraction of them is completely characterized under their physical and chemical
aspects.Mixing two compounds often leads to some peculiar and unespected property of the
related solution, otherwise not observable in the starting materials, thus to obtain new
solvents and chemical products. That might be a more convenient route than the synthesis of a new molecule both from
mere commercial and environmental considerations. The main goal of my research project
is the understanding of the mechanism standing at the basis of mixing Ethylammonium
Nitrate (EAN) with a number of other molecules chosen on the basis of polarity
considerations. EAN is the perfect candidate for this study because it is the prototype of a
wide class of ILs classified as Protic Ionic Liquids.
These chemical substances are often named the "Green Solvent of the Future" and an
ambitious target of my studies upon selected mixtures of ionic liquids might be, if
successfully accomplished, the finding of an inexpensive protocol to deal with materials of
practical use. To achieve this goal, the full characterization of chosen systems is actually
mandatory and therefore several investigation techniques should be used, such as
spectroscopy, calorimetry, diffraction and computational simulations

Assessing the Structure of Protic Ionic Liquids Based on Triethylammonium and Organic Acid Anions
We present a computational analysis of the short-range structure of three protic ionic liquids based on strong organic acids: trifluoracetate, methanesulfonate, and triflate of triethylammonium. Accurate ab initio computations carried out on the gas-phase dimers show that the protonation of triethylamine is spontaneous. We have identified the anion-cation binding motif that is due to the presence of a strong hydrogen bond and to electrostatic interactions. The strength of the hydrogen bond and the magnitude of the binding energy decrease in the order trifluoroacetate ≳ methanesulfonate > triflate. The corresponding simulations of the bulk phases, obtained using a semiempirical evaluation of the interatomic forces, reveal that on short timescales, the state of the three liquids remains highly ionized and that the gas-phase cation-/anion-binding motif is preserved while no other peculiar structural features seem to emerge
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Presentazione.
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Momentum Flux Spatial Distribution and PDAAnalysis of a GDI Spray
In the present paper, the results of a detailed experimental analysis of a GDI spray based on Imaging, Phase Doppler Anemometry data and Momentum Flux distribution measurement are presented and discussed. The GDI system used is a three-hole research injector, operated in an injection pressure range of 50 bar to 150 bar. Spray Imaging is performed according to an ensemble average approach, acquiring images at different timings during the injection process; the resulting penetration and cone angle time-histories allow a quantitative description of the spray structure shape. Momentum flux distribution data are obtained by means of a dedicated test bench which detects the impact force of small spray portions. The sensing device is moved in different positions inside the spray structure, with the acquired force transients averaged on several injection events. By this approach, the mean momentum flux distribution and time-evolution can be derived giving significant insight in the spray structure development. Imaging and momentum flux distribution data are also compared with Phase Doppler Anemometry measurement data in terms of drop velocity, sizing and droplet count distribution inside the spray structure obtained in the same operating conditions. The obtained results suggest that a combined use of the different available experimental techniques allows an adequate quantitative characterization of the spray evolution, if the final goal is to appropriately support a detailed coupling of the spray both with the combustion chamber design and with the in-cylinder charge motions. Further, the obtained experimental data can be used as boundary conditions for CFD analysis of the spray-air charge interaction
