A Note on the Equivalence of Rationalizability Concepts in Generalized Nice Games

    No full text
Moulin (1984) describes the class of nice games for which the solution concept of point-rationalizability coincides with iterated elimination of strongly dominated strategies. As a consequence nice games have the desirable property that all rationalizability concepts determine the same strategic solution. However, nice games are characterized by rather strong assumptions. For example, only single-valued best responses are admitted and the individual strategy sets have to be convex and compact subsets of the real line R1. This note shows that equivalence of all rationalizability concepts can be extended to multi-valued best response correspondences. The surprising finding is that equivalence does not hold for individual strategy sets that are compact and convex subsets of Rn with n>1.

    Uniqueness Conditions for Point-Rationalizable

    No full text
The unique point-rationalizable solution of a game is the unique Nash equilibrium. However, this solution has the additional advantage that it can be justified by the epistemic assumption that it is Common Knowledge of the players that only best responses are chosen. Thus, games with a unique point-rationalizable solution allow for a plausible explanation of equilibrium play in one-shot strategic situations, and it is therefore desireable to identify such games. In order to derive sufficient and necessary conditions for unique point-rationalizable solutions this paper adopts and generalizes the contraction-property approach of Moulin (1984) and of Bernheim (1984). Uniqueness results obtained in this paper are derived under fairly general assumptions such as games with arbitrary metrizable strategy sets and are especially useful for complete and bounded, for compact, as well as for finite strategy sets. As a mathematical side result existence of a unique fixed point is proved under conditions that generalize a fixed point theorem due to Edelstein (1962).

Förlorat i Översättningen : Att Klarlägga Diskrepanser i Dotterbolagsautonomi inom en Multinationell Koncern

In the face of growing geopolitical instability, regulatory complexity, technologicalshifts, and intensifying environmental and societal pressures, modern multinationalenterprises must carefully mediate global integration with local responsiveness. In thiscontext, subsidiary autonomy has been increasingly recognised as both a necessity anda persistent source of governance tension. Although autonomy is widely discussed inthe IB literature, the concept remains fragmented and conceptually unclear, sometimes reducing it to a binary of authority formally assigned or assumed moreexpansively by subsidiaries. Furthermore, far less attention has been given to itsmicrofoundations, leaving critical blind spots in theory and practice. This study adoptsa network perspective of the firm and an agency theory lens to examine why managersassume autonomy. The research is built upon a qualitative single-case study of aEuropean multinational energy service firm’s Swedish operations, drawing on 28semi-structured interviews, internal documents, and ethnographic-style observations. It advances a four-aggregate framework for the microfoundations of subsidiaryautonomy and derives tentative propositions for future testing. The results suggestthat autonomy is co-produced by normative anchoring, structural mediation, powerand control dynamics, and psychological conditions. Beyond its empiricalcontribution, addressing an under-represented context in the literature, this studyoffers three theoretical contributions: (1) theorising intermediate units’ dual agency asthey recalibrate discretion across organisational layers; (2) providing evidence oflatent autonomy, reframing autonomy as a reversible, relational practice in whichdelegated decision rights may be underutilised and not only expanded; and (3)suggesting autonomy’s social embeddedness in norms, socialisation, andpsychological conditions, not just formal delegation and structure. The study offerspractical recommendations and levers for practitioners in multinational enterprises toimprove autonomy–governance fit amid contemporary global pressures.

Normative reconstruction and social character of freedom in Axel Honneth

    No full text
This research object aims to study and identify the essential traits involved in the theoretical approach of social and political relations brought in the work Freedom’s Right by the german philosopher Axel Honneth. It analyses the hegelian influence on the concept of freedom, as well as the factors related to the supply of subjective needs, mediated by the different social "spheres". Honneth thus seeks to bring to light the understanding of a new model of freedom stemming from Hegel’s Philosophy of Law, which differs substantially from traditional models. The author seeks to highlight the limitation of liberal theories of justice, invoking the need for an integrated view of the social relations experienced in the spheres referred to by Hegel, conceiving a concrete experience of social freedom. In this sense, the interdisciplinary and emancipatory character of the normative reconstruction method is evidenced, as a theorical basis for public justification in modern societies
