In questo articolo l'autore si propone di riflettere sui cambiamenti e sulle criticità indotti dall’avvento del digitale nelle diverse articolazioni sociali. Da mero strumento, il sistema digitale nelle sue diverse forme, è ormai radicato nelle attività quotidiane e, cosa ancor più rilevante, si sta prepotentemente affermando nelle realtà operative essenziali, reclamando silenziosamente il suo ruolo principale, da protagonista assoluto. Tale cambiamento interessa da vicino tutti, senza esclusioni di classe sociale, formazione, nazionalità. Si tratta di una rivoluzione, ancor più evidente nella attuale situazione di crisi pandemica indotta dal covid-19, che sta raggiungendo un momento storico importantissimo e drammaticamente centrale nella realtà, economica e sociale di ogni persona: il punto di non ritorno.THE POINT OF NO RETURN IN THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF SOCIETY
In this article, the author aims to reflect on the changes and criticalities induced by the advent of digital technology in the various social articulations. From a mere tool, the digital system in its various forms is now rooted in daily activities and, more importantly, it is strongly affirming itself in essential operational realities, silently claiming its main role, as an absolute protagonist. This change affects everyone closely, without exclusion of social class, education, nationality. This is a revolution, even more evident in the current situation of pandemic crisis induced by covid-19, which is reaching a very important and dramatically central historical moment in the reality of each citizen: the point of no return

Accanto a questo primo aspetto, si approfondiscono alcune delle tematiche che stanno interessando le discussioni e le riflessioni inerenti i rischi, unitamente alle opportunità, derivanti dall’applicazione e dalla attuazione di sistemi digitali. Ad un secondo livello si evidenziano le modalità con cui una macchina può estendere le sue funzioni apprendendo dall’ambiente circostante.In this article the author proposes to analyze the development of Artificial Intelligence, understood in the different forms with which it presents itself today and potentially puts itself at the service of people. Alongside this first aspect, we examine in depth some of the issues that are affecting the discussions and reflections concerning the risks, together with the opportunities, deriving from the application and implementation of digital systems. At a second level we highlight the ways in which a machine can extend its functions by learning from the surrounding environment
The Frenzy of the Audible: Voice, Cinema, Representation
No full textThis essay offers a path across some of the essays in this volume exploring the relationship between image and sound in cinema. Heeding different voices from film criticism (considered as criticism of mainly Western feature cinema) and documentary filmmaking, where the voice is discussed in its narrative and technical function, the author aims at listening to cinema, rather than watching it, in order to hear the mechanism that makes this social and cultural technology work. Though cinema technology allows for a complete separation of the voice from the body that originates it, feature films suture image and voice to create a unitary body for its characters and stories. In documentary film, on the other hand, the audience is led by a voice apparently coming from outside the frame, sutured to no body at all; this voice can taint the representation of the ‘real’ with the uncanny voice of the machine, as in the work of experimental film- and documentary-makers from Lynch to David Cronenberg, Trinh T. Minh-ha and Chris Marker, plunging deeper and deeper into the displacing qualities of the voice of cinema

No full textIn questo articolo l'autore propone una riflessione sugli impatti del digitale nella società attuale, sempre più caratterizzata da fasi emergenziali dirette a contrastare i cambiamenti indesiderati: dai pericoli dello sviluppo digitale non regolato fino all’ambiente e ai cambiamenti climatici legati allo sfruttamento delle risorse.
Nel quadro più ampio dei nuovi spazi digitali l’autore si interroga sulle prospettive di crescita e sulle criticità, che più di altre, interessano i fattori chiave legati alla transizione digitale in essere, dalla crisi dello spazio, sia digitale che ambientale, a quella del tempo a disposizione, sempre più condizionato da elementi di dovere e da attività sempre più compresse e multidimensionali, tali da renderci sempre più costretti da lavori paralleli e sempre meno liberi, o capaci, di sfruttare il tempo per noi stessi.The article reflects on the impact of ICT on today’s society and on the increasingly frequent emergency responses to its undesired effects, which range from unregulated digital developments to the environmental and climatic damage caused by the exploitation of resources.
Regarding the broad context of new digital spaces, the author considers the potential growth and pitfalls most likely to affect the digital transition that is underway. These include the crises of digital and physical space and that of the shrinking availability of time, subject to the increasing demands of obligations and ever more complex and multi-dimensional tasks. This ties us down in parallel activities, constantly eroding our freedom, or ability, to make use of time for ourselves
