    The review of the socio-political fiction novels under binary opposition and logocentrism (case study of novel entitled "Orang-Orang Proyek" by Ahmad Tohari)

    The socio-political fiction novel is real and presents an implicit portray of the community\u27s social life of a dwell. This sort of literature is less prevalent because every reader might have their perception while the authors favor particular value according to their social and mental experiences. An Indonesian novel entitled "Orang-Orang Proyek" by Ahmad Tohari, which represents the real condition of the Indonesian community under their political and social situations, is a perfect portray to describe the relation between binary opposition and logocentrism. Both theories will affect the author how they describe each character, even decide how the story ends. This paper tries to break down that literary work using the deconstructive-reading method to read a text with multi-interpretation where the version contains many probabilities of meaning. This study will provide insight into the correct reading method according to the purpose and type of literacy used in literary works

    Observational prospective cohort study of patients with newly-diagnosed ocular sebaceous carcinoma

    <p>Purpose: To investigate the epidemiology and clinicopathological management for ocular sebaceous carcinoma (OSC) in the UK.</p> <p>Methods: Observational prospective cohort study of patients with newly-diagnosed OSC. The British Ophthalmological Surveillance Unit captured incident cases of OSC between 2008 and 2010. Incident and 6-month follow-up questionnaires from reporting ophthalmologists captured OSC demographic and clinical data.</p> <p>Results: Data were available on 51 patients with unilateral OSC (response rate 85%). The UK estimated annual incidence was 0.41 cases per million population (95% CI 0.31 to 0.54). Median age was 70 years (SD 14, range 28–98) with 57% women. OSC location was upper lid (54%), lower lid (20%), multicentric (14%) and caruncle (12%). Most common misdiagnoses included chalazion (42%), basal cell carcinoma (30%) and blepharoconjunctivitis (16%), with median delay in diagnosis of 10 months (SD 9, range 0.5–36). Specialist ophthalmic pathologists performed diagnostics in 62%, with pagetoid/intraepithelial spread present in 39%. Misdiagnosis of chalazion (p=0.019) and pagetoid tumour spread (p=0.016) was associated with a significant diagnostic delay (one-way ANOVA/R2). Primary surgical management involved excision with reconstruction (49%), primary exenteration (10%) and Mohs surgery (8%). There were three deaths (out of 51) during the study period; one patient died of OSC-related disease and the other two due to other causes.</p> <p>Conclusions: This population-based prospective study confirms OSC as a rare cancer in the UK. Masquerade syndromes result in significant diagnostic delays and increase the risk of pagetoid tumour spread. There is considerable UK variation in pathological and surgical management, and ocular reconstruction and radical surgery is often required for OSC due to delayed presentation.</p&gt

    How to Analyze Local Wisdom Contains in the Novel Series and their Relation with the Author’s Society

    The literary is a type of an original work by the author, as an impression of the life combined with the power of imagination and the creative ability which is also supported by the experience and the observation of life. The authors who live amidst society appreciate and know the intricate details of that secular society presence. This research discusses the method to analyze local wisdom contains in the novel series and their relationship with the author’s society. The sample novel series used in this study entitled Full Moon (Padang Bulan/PB) and Love in the Glass (Cinta Dalam Gelas/CDG) by Andrea Hirata, one of Indonesia’s novelist. The analysis combines the analytic-descriptive techniques, the content analysis, and the hermeneutics. The local wisdom and their contradiction can be traced and uncovered in light of the author’s idea, which represents his society. Methods apply in this study can be easily applied to other similar stories which can help the readers understand the purpose of the story. Besides, the conflicting interest and the local wisdom can be compelling to be studied, while we can take the real lessons and the knowledge of another culture and their perspective to solve the issues of their life. This manuscript will help many of the analysis to traces, not just the explanation but forget the true wisdom contains in every stories and matter

    Mechanism of human PINK1 activation at the TOM complex in a reconstituted system

    Loss-of-function mutations in PTEN-induced kinase 1 (PINK1) are a frequent cause of early-onset Parkinson's disease (PD). Stabilization of PINK1 at the translocase of outer membrane (TOM) complex of damaged mitochondria is critical for its activation. The mechanism of how PINK1 is activated in the TOM complex is unclear. Here, we report that co-expression of human PINK1 and all seven TOM subunits in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is sufficient for PINK1 activation. We use this reconstitution system to systematically assess the role of each TOM subunit toward PINK1 activation. We unambiguously demonstrate that the TOM20 and TOM70 receptor subunits are required for optimal PINK1 activation and map their sites of interaction with PINK1 using AlphaFold structural modeling and mutagenesis. We also demonstrate an essential role of the pore-containing subunit TOM40 and its structurally associated subunits TOM7 and TOM22 for PINK1 activation. These findings will aid in the development of small-molecule activators of PINK1 as a therapeutic strategy for PD.</p

    High-resolution hyperspectral imaging of the retina with a modified fundus camera

    NoThe purpose of the research was to examine the practical feasibility of developing a hyperspectral camera from a Zeiss fundus camera and to illustrate its use in imaging diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma patients. The original light source of the camera was replaced with an external lamp filtered by a fast tunable liquid-crystal filter. The filtered light was then brought into the camera through an optical fiber. The original film camera was replaced by a digital camera. Images were obtained in normals and patients (primary open angle glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy) recruited at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. A series of eight images were captured across 495- to 720-nm wavelengths, and recording time was less than 1.6s. The light level at the cornea was below the ANSI limits, and patients judged the measurement to be very comfortable. Images were of high quality and were used to generate a pixel-to-pixel oxygenation map of the optic nerve head. Frame alignment is necessary for frame-to-frame comparison but can be achieved through simple methods. We have developed a hyperspectral camera with high spatial and spectral resolution across the whole visible spectrum that can be adapted from a standard fundus camera. The hyperspectral technique allows wavelength-specific visualization of retinal lesions that may be subvisible using a white light source camera. This hyperspectral technique may facilitate localization of retinal and disc pathology and consequently facilitate the diagnosis and management of retinal disease
