The herbarium of Chiappini, held in Herbarium CAG of Cagliari University, is presented. Prof. Manlio Chiappini, who dead the 4th of january 1998, teached Botany at the Athenaeum of Cagliari from 1965 to 1987 and from 1965 to 1986 he was director of Botanical Institute and Botanical gardens of Cagliari University. From a research carried out in Herbarium CAG is shown that Chiappini’s herbarium is compound of 1262 exsiccata, referred to 630 specific and subspecific entities (about the 30% of Sardinian flora), of which 45 referred to endemic species (about the 20% of Sardinian flora) and that the Museum Herbarium CAG itself is depositary of a number of 4 species pointed out, by the Author himself, for the first time to Sardinia

Modern lattice Boltzmann methods for multiphase microflows

    No full text
During the last decade, the lattice Boltzmann (LB) method has captured an increasing attention as an efficient tool for the numerical simulation of complex fluids, particularly multiphase and multicomponent flows. In this paper, we revisit the basic features of two modern variants of LB models for non-ideal fluids, which offer promising perspectives for the numerical simulation of complex microflows. © 2011 The Author

Climate change, biodiversity loss and mental health: a global perspective

    No full text
Climate change can have various psychopathological manifestations which have been more actively addressed by scientific research only in recent years. Indeed, extreme weather events and environmental changes have been shown to be associated with a range of mental health problems. Following the destruction of ecosystems, biodiversity loss can cause mental distress and emotional responses, including so-called 'psychoterratic' syndromes arising from negatively felt and perceived environmental change. Studies investigating relationships between biodiversity and mental health reveal a complex landscape of scientific evidence, calling for a better understanding of this challenging issue. The increasing importance of Green Bonds as instruments of Impact Investing: towards a new European Standardization

    No full text
The paper analyses the principal characteristics of Green Bonds, a particular financial instrument of Impact Investing that is showing a rapidly growing market and that can offer new possibilities for investors who consider important ESG considerations. The author wants to point out the main critical aspects that characterize Green Bonds, regarding both the lack of clarity about what makes a bond “green” and the presence of too many ways of assessing the bond greenness. The work notices that an answer to these needs is now coming from the European Institutions, showing how their recent actions - the HLEG Final Report and the EC Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth (2018) – are filling up the existing gaps, representing important steps towards a new European standardization

This paper shows texts by Carmo Bernardes (1915-1996) that describe the relationship between hinterland people and cattle, in order to highlight animal's sensibility. The environmentalist writing of this author is examined based on literary theories of Chiappini (1995), Forster (2005) and Gil (2019), as well as the bioethical work of Xavier and Sganzerla (2023).Este artigo destaca alguns textos do escritor Carmo Bernardes (1915-1996) que descrevem o relacionamento entre o sertanejo e o gado, para evidenciar aspectos da sensibilidade desses animais. Pretende-se mostrar a característica ambientalista da escrita desse autor, com base nos teóricos literários Chiappini (1995), Forster (2005) e Gil (2019), assim como nos especialistas em bioética Xavier e Sganzerla (2023)

Antonio Vicente Seraphim Pietroforte, e a vida masoquista

Abstract : This Master?s Thesis has as main object three books from the writer Antonio Vicente Serphim Pietroforte, published between 2007 and 2011. From the reading of Amsterdã SM (2007), Irmão noite, irmã lua (2008) and Sara sob céu escuro (2011), what is sought to demonstrate is how much, in Pietroforte?s work, the writing of an eroticism turned to non-conventional practices of sexuality, particularly sadomasochism, opens itself up to a reading of the work in which such themes as referentiality, eroticism as a ritual practice and, more importantly, the rise of a concept of masochistic life figure. From the analysis that Gilles Deleuze performs in his book Coldness and Cruelty, in which he reads the written universe of the Austrian author at the same time trying to fend his literature from that of Sade, to which he Sacher-Masoch had for a long time served as a mere complement, an idea is born that the practices of masochism, much more than regulated by the contract instance, are part of a process of ritualization of sexuality and lastly of the author?s own life, who lived much of that which echoes in his writings. In Pietroforte?s work, similarly, the narrative of sadomasochism-related experiences merges itself with his literature and the text puts itself in service of the eroticity of the writing act, once it hides more than reveals, thus forcing the reader to penetrate the text in order to extract from it the references that the whole time point to the reading net sewed by the author in his books. Pietroforte?s text opens itself up to a reading of the concept of masochistic life in Brazilian culture and of its implications in the formation of a notion of a national in-between. The subject of masochism is frequent in Brazilian literature, ever since the 19th century: it is given in authors such as José de Alencar, Machado de Assis and Adolfo Caminha, as well as in Dalton Trevisan and Glauco Mattoso, only to firm up some examples

Approach to fever in children among final-year nursing students: a multicenter survey

    No full text
BackgroundUnfounded concerns regarding fever are increasingly observed among nurses worldwide. However, no study has so far explored the preferred approach towards pediatric fever among nursing students. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the attitude towards pediatric fever among final-year nursing students.MethodsBetween February and June 2022, final-year nursing students of 5 Italian university hospitals were asked to answer an online survey on their approach to fever in children. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were utilized. Multiple regression models were employed to explore the existence of moderators on fever conceptions.ResultsThe survey was filled in by 121 nursing students (response rate 50%). Although most students (98%) do not consider discomfort to treat fever in children, only a minority would administer a second dose of the same antipyretic in nonresponsive cases (5.8%) or would alternate antipyretic drugs (13%). Most students would use physical methods to decrease fever (84%) and do not think that fever has mainly beneficial effects in children (72%). The own know-how adequacy on fever was inversely associated (OR 0.33, 95% CI 0.13-0.81) with the beliefs that high fever might lead to brain damage. No further predictive variable was significantly associated with the concern that fever might be associated with brain damage, the advice of physical methods use, and the assumption that fever has mostly positive effects.DiscussionThis study shows for the first time that misconceptions and inappropriate attitudes towards fever in children are common among final-year nursing students. Nursing students could potentially be ideal candidates for improving fever management within clinical practice and amongst caregivers
