No full textAuthor of "Truth of analytic statements in a radically empiricist theory of meaning" answers to a critical essay written by Maciej Witek. He clarifies the metaphysical assumptions and implications of proposed conception, dealing with such issues as: sense/reference distinction; methodological versus realistic approach to theory of meaning; inferential/causal relations among meaningful items; mental aspect of meanings. Next, he makes explicit a view on the concept of truth to which this theory is committed. In addition, he formulates ways of sociolinguistic operationalization of concepts of 'platitude' and 'meaning'

No full textIndywidualna, retrospektywna wystawa malarstwa M. Drozd-Witek pt. Antaba 2024 obejmuje wybór przeszło 30 obrazów z lat 2005 - 2024. Ekspozycja ukazuje etapy twórczych wypowiedzi i poszukiwań artystki, począwszy od prac wykonanych w technice olejnej, po niekonwencjonalne, wchodzące w przestrzeń interdyscyplinarności autorskie poszukiwania medium. Wszystkie traktują o kondycji człowieka w aspekcie duchowej i metafizycznej perspektywy i wpisują się w klimat Europejskiego Centrum Kultury LOGOS w Łodzi (erygowane w 2004 r. przez Metropolitę Łódzkiego). Teatr LOGOS (założony w 1987 r.), działają - tworzą od kilkudziesięciu lat prestiżowe miejsce spotkań środowisk twórczych, naukowych i intelektualnych oraz stanowią Centrum Kultury Chrześcijańskiej w Łodzi - To znaczące miejsce na mapie kulturalnej Polski. W Galerii prezentowali swoje prace m.in.: S. Fijałkowski, S. Rodziński, J. Lebenstein, J. Nowosielski, J. Duda-Gracz, A. Kabała, T. Siara, K. Skórczewski, S. Białogłowicz, T. Boruta. Z wielokrotnie nagradzanym Teatrem związane są na stałe takie postaci jak: W. Wilhelm, B. Kierc, E. Wycichowska, L. Wieleba. Rektor Kościoła ks. Waldemar Sondka - nominowany do nagrody Totus Tuus w kategorii osiągnięcia w dziedzinie kultury chrześcijańskiej

No full textThe article reviews key theoretical concepts and empirical studies on the relationship between early internationalization and company performance. The author uses descriptive and comparative methods in the article. The paper discusses an array of theoretical arguments for a positive and negative internationalization-performance relationship. The key theoretical concepts related to the costs of firm internationalization are presented. The author identifies different categories of internationalization costs that affect firm performance. Witek-Hajduk also highlights theoretically derived and empirically shown relationships between the degree of internationalization and firm performance. Moreover, the article discuses the results of several empirical studies conducted in highly developed countries on the relationship between early internationalization and firm performance. According to these empirical studies, early internationalization has a positive impact on firm performance. The author highlights a research gap: there is a lack of empirical studies on the relationship between early internationalization and the performance of Polish firms and companies from other emerging markets

Glass Transition in Rice Pasta as Observed by Combined Neutron Scattering and Time-Domain NMR
No full textExperimental protocols aiming at the characterisation of glass transition often suffer from ambiguity. The ambition of the present study is to describe the glass transition in a complex, micro heterogeneous system, the dry rice pasta, in a most unambiguous manner, minimising the influence of technique-specific bias. To this end, we apply an unprecedented combination of experimental techniques. Apart from the usually used NMR and DSC, we employ, in a concurrent manner, neutron transmission, diffraction, and Compton scattering. This enables us to investigate the glass transition over a range of spatio-temporal scales that stretches over seven orders of magnitude. The results obtained by neutron diffraction and DSC reveal that dry rice pasta is almost entirely amorphous. Moreover, the glass transition is evidenced by neutron transmission and diffraction data and manifested as a significant decrease of the average sample number density in the temperature range between 40 and 60 degrees C. At the microscopic level, our NMR, neutron transmission and Compton scattering results provide evidence of changes in the secondary structure of the starch within the dry rice pasta accompanying the glass transition, whereby the long-range order provided by the polymer structure within the starch present in the dry rice pasta is partially lost

No full textIn this chapter Kasia M. Jaszczolt and Maciej Witek discuss the cognitive significance of the devices used to communicate de se thoughts and argue (and also partially empirically demonstrate) that, pace some extant proposals and pace the dominant presumption in semantics and philosophy of language, there is no evidence that natural languages use different kinds of expressions for externalizing different aspects of self-reference. On the basis of their empirical results from Polish, as well as evidence from a range of other languages and some theoretical argumentation, they sketch a possible future model founded on a correlation between speech-act types, interlocutors’ goals, and associated linguistic conventions on the one hand and expression type on the other. An additional corollary of this research is further justification for the claim of functional indexicality defended for example in Chapter 12 of this volume.</p

Drozd - Witek (technika mieszana na płótnie, 100 x 120 cm, 2021 r.) został zakwalifikowany na jedną z największych i najważniejszych cyklicznych (tradycja sięga 1936 r.), interdyscyplinarnych prezentacji sztuki współczesnej, której celem jest ukazanie najistotniejszych tendencji i poszukiwań w obrębie formy i treści. Patronat nad Wschodnim Salonem Sztuki sprawuje Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego. Jury reprezentujące różne środowiska twórcze (prof. Błażej Ostoja Linski, ASP Warszawa - przewodniczący) wybrało spośród 325 zgłoszonych prac, 91. Uczestnicy wystawy pokonkursowej to m.in.: A. Romaniuk, J. Staszewski, P. Słota, A. Cwalina, P. Desperak, S. Cholewa. Obraz pokazano również (decyzja jury pod przewodnictwem prof. Wydziału Malarstwa ASP w Warszawie Arkadiusza Karapudy) na ogólnopolskiej wystawie pokonkursowej 3. Ogólnopolskiego Konkursu Malarstwa w Miejskiej Galerii Sztuki w Zakopanem. Początki Galerii sięgają 1911 roku. Prace prezentowali tam na przestrzeni lat m.in.: M. Jarema, T. Pągowska, M. Abakanowicz, J. Cybis, T. Kantor, T. Brzozowski, J. Duda Gracz, W. Hasior, Z. Beksiński, J. Nowosielski, J. Waltoś, S. Rodziński
