No full textL’intervista affronta, nella prima parte, il clima politico e culturale nel quale è avvenuta la formazione di Karol Modzelewski (in Polonia e anche in Italia), i rapporti con il suo maestro Aleksander Gieysztor e con gli storici della generazione precedente, le condizioni di studio soprattutto nella Polonia degli anni anni Sessanta, il suo impegno politico, la scelta dei temi di indagine e il loro sviluppo. Si sofferma successivamente sulle relazioni dello studioso polacco con gli esponenti di altre storiografie, in particolar modo riguardo alla questione dell’etnogenesi, sui problemi di metodo in specie riguardo alla struttura delle fonti per la storia dell’universo barbarico nel primo millennio, sulla questione del “collettivismo barbarico” e sulla ricezione della monografia L’Europa dei barbari (2004); e infine sull’organizzazione e sulla valutazione della ricerca in Polonia. The first section of this interview addresses the political and cultural milieu that shaped Karol Modzelewski’s education (in Poland and Italy, too), the relations with both his mentor Aleksander Gieysztor and the historians of the previous generation, the condition of education in Poland especially in the ’60s, his political involvement, the selection of his research interests and the development the latter underwent. Then the interview examines Modzelewski’s relations with scholars belonging to other historiographical schools, with particular attention to the issue of ethnogenesis, the methodology concerning the structure of sources to reconstruct the history of the Barbarian world in the first millennium, the matter of the “Barbaric collectivism”, the reception of his study L’Europa dei barbari (‘The Europe of the Barbarians’, 2004), and finally how research is organized and evaluated in Poland

No full textPer rivisitare qualche occasione d’incontro fra storia e antropologia nel panorama italiano, prima di passare a dire qualcosa anche di fondamentali contributi provenienti dall’estero, sarebbe difficile non dare spazio a un’esperienza significativa, anche in quanto cantiere di ricerca collettivo, che la storiografia nazionale ha prodotto in quest’ambito di studi, quale il Laboratorio di storia coordinato da Sergio Bertelli. Esperienza si direbbe unica per l’intreccio che vi si realizzava fra le due prospettive disciplinari, e varie altre, e che ha investito direttamente i temi qui in questione, con una passione polemica per le definizioni e le categorie di lettura

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
