Sol-Gel synthesis, thermal, spectroscopic and morphological characterization of bioactive titania
No full textTitanium dioxide (TiO2) is frequently used in the industrial and environmental applications for its photocatalytic activity, chemical stability and anticorrosive properties. It has been reported in the literature that titanium biomaterials’ response and properties can be affected by the synthesis technique. In this work, the sol-gel method was used to synthesize the TiO2 particles [1,2]. Regarding the chemical characterization, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetry (TG) were used to evaluate the chemical structure of the particles, while SEM and BET measurements were used to determine the morphology and nanoparticles size of the prepared TiO2 particles. In particular, the aim of this study was to evaluate the use of these materials in the prevention of the infection after the implantation. The antibacterial activity of TiO2 particles was assessed using Escherichia coli. Finally, in order to evaluate the biological properties, the TiO2 particles were soaked in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 21 days to observe their bioactivity.

No full textIl volume raccoglie gli Atti del Convegno Internazionale di Studi tenutosi presso il Dipartimento di Scienze del Patrinonio Culturale dell’Università degli Studi di Salerno il 20 aprile 2017, il primo dedicato interamente alla città di Colofone, organizzato in collaborazione con la missione archeologica operante a Colofone. Accanto a studi dedicati alla fondazione della città (M. Polito), all’analisi del suo patrimonio delle tradizioni mitiche (A. Mele) e alla figura e all’attività del filosofo Senofane (C. Schubert), un ricco gruppo di contributi espone i risultati delle ricerche archeologiche condotte a partire dal 2010, dalla missione archeologica. Le indagini hanno consentito inannzitutto di mettere a fuoco l’organizzazione e lo sviluppo urbanistico della città di Colofone, dall’età arcaica all’età ellenistica (V. Gassner, U. Muss). La grande riorganizzazione della città decisa verso la fine del IV secolo a.C. venne programmata e progettata con un apposito decreto, come attesta un eccezionale documento epigrafico (L. Vecchio). Altri studi sono dedicati ai santuari, ubicati sia nella città, in particolare quello della Grande Madre Cibele (Chr. Bruns-Özgan, Ö. Teraman), sia nel territorio, quale quello oracolare apollineo di Claros (M. Dewailly). Ad essi si aggiunge un lavoro di revisione delle notizie sulle necropoli (O. Mariaud)
