Ratio of kaon and pion leptonic decay constants with N f = 2 + 1 + 1 Wilson-clover twisted-mass fermions
We present a determination of the ratio of kaon and pion leptonic decay constants in isosymmetric QCD (ISOQCD), fK/fπ, making use of the gauge ensembles produced by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration with Nf = 2 + 1 + 1 flavors of Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks, including configurations close to the physical point for all dynamical flavors. The simulations are carried out at
three values of the lattice spacing ranging from ∼0.068 to ∼0.092 fm with linear lattice size up to L ∼ 5.5 fm. The scale is set by the particle data group (PDG) value of the pion decay constant, fISOQCD π = 130.4(2) MeV, at the ISOQCD pion point, MISOQCD π = 135.0(2) MeV, obtaining for the gradient-flow scales the values w0 = 0.17383(63) fm, .....t0 = 0.14436(61) fm and t0/w0 =
0.11969(62) fm. The data are analyzed within the framework of SU(2) chiral perturbation theory without resorting to the use of renormalized quark masses. At the ISOQCD kaon point MISOQCD K = 494.2(4) MeV we get (fK/fπ)ISOQCD = 1.1995(44), where the error includes both statistical and systematic uncertainties. Implications for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element jVusj and for the first-row Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity are discussed
Wechselrede.
Men and women of dialogue observe conventions that owe their origins to rhetorical theories, the latter serving as a premise for the individual freedom of every letter writer. Since ancient times, epistolary rhetoric and the dialogism that presides over it have been the subject of much debate by theorists. This article presents the successive strata. Aristotle had already analysed epistolary dialogism and provided it with a civic twist: that every citizen aspires to be both author and reader since he takes the recipient into account. Cicero expands on this idea by making a distinction between an informative letter, confiding in family or a friend, and communications for political ends. This tripartite division was to last into the Middle Ages and then be adapted to the recipient’s social status. The variants that arrive in subsequent centuries are mainly concerned with private letters, which oscillate between propriety and fantasy, respect for the rules and spontaneity. The model from Antiquity remains that of Gellert, who retains the principle of dialogism. But Gellert abandons a servile imitatio and promotes another aspect of rhetoric: style. This reflects the actual functioning of language (philology) and its purpose in enabling communication between people (sociability). Conversing by letter encourages an ever-greater attempt to translate affections and to exploit the resources of the physical distance of the recipient
Rhetorica movet. Acerca de la genealogía retórica del pathos
The history of ëpathosë since the 18th century is a history full of misconceptions and misinterpretations. This essay is an attempt to give a secure ground to the current discussion about the meaning of pathos by examining the rhetorical roots of the concept. Therefore, the author is taking a look at Aristotle’s fundamental definition of ëpathosí and his threefold scheme of types of appeal. Moreover Cicero’s modification of Aristotle’s concept is scrutinised. Emphasising Cicero’s importance for the discussion against the tendency to consider Longinus as the most substantial authority on ëpathosí opens a new perspective on the issue. As a result it becomes clear that ëpathosí is one means of persuasion among others and that the misuse of pathos in the 19th and 20th century is a result of ignoring the rhetorical insights into this mean of persuasion
Effects of Combined Plyometric and Sprint Training on Sprint Performance in Youth Soccer Players
Background/Objectives: Plyometrics is a widely used method to enhance the physical performance of athletes. Studies have demonstrated that the effectiveness of plyometrics increases when combined with other training methods. This study aims to determine whether the direct combination of plyometric and sprint training improves linear sprint speed and change-of-direction speed in youth soccer players. Methods: Twenty-eight male youth soccer players were randomly assigned to an intervention group (INT, n = 14, 12.9 ± 0.4 years) and a control group (CON, n = 14, 12.9 ± 0.7 years). The INT group performed two sessions per week, each including nine drop jumps, followed by a hurdle jump and one sprint. The CON group only performed nine sprints without any jumps. Both groups continued their regular soccer training over the 20-week intervention period. Pre- and post-intervention tests included 5 m, 10 m, and 30 m linear sprints and a modified agility t-test for change-of-direction speed. Results: Largest improvements were observed in the INT group (5 m = 6.7%, 10 m = 4.8%, 30 m = 2.7%, change-of-direction speed = 3.6%, 3.1%). A significant difference between the groups was noted for the 10 m sprint distance (p = 0.02). Furthermore, moderate to large correlations between linear sprint speed and change-of-direction speed were found in both groups (r = 0.33–0.82). Conclusions: Results suggest that the direct combination of plyometric training and sprint training over a 20-week period can improve both linear sprint speed and change-of-direction speed in youth soccer players, thus enhancing physical performance
Gradient-flow scale setting with Wilson-clover twisted-mass fermions
We present a determination of the gradient flow scales w0 , t0‾‾√
and t0/w0 in isosymmetric QCD, making use of the gauge ensembles produced by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with Nf=2+1+1
flavours of Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks including configurations close to the physical point for all dynamical flavours. The simulations are carried out at three values of the lattice spacing and the scale is set through the PDG value of the pion decay constant, yielding w0=0.17383(63) fm, t0‾‾√=0.14436(61) fm and t0/w0=0.11969(62)
fm. Finally, fixing the kaon mass to its isosymmetric value, we determine the ratio of the kaon and pion leptonic decay constants to be fK/fπ=1.1995(44)
