Experiencing the armed struggle : the Soweto generation and after
Includes bibliographical references (p. 354-369).This study explores the experiences of the rank-and-file soldiers of Umkhonto we Sizwe and the Azanian People's Liberation Anny. Extensive interviews by the author and other researchers reveal the voices of the soldiers themselves. The African National Congress and Pan African Congress archives at the University of the Western Cape and the University of Fort Hare supplement and verify these oral testimonies, as do some published sources. Most previously published materials about the armed struggle against apartheid have already focused on diplomacy, strategy and tactics, operations, leadership, and human rights abuses to the neglect of the soldiers' actual experiences. This study complements these with significant new oral history materials from the Soweto generation of soldiers and their successors. When dealing with MK, many authors have documented issues of the camp structure in Angola, and operations inside South Africa, so much of this detail is only addressed briefly, leaving space to explore the soldiers' experiences. In the case of APLA, very little has been written on its history, and more detail is provided on these subjects. This study therefore deals with the soldiers' politicisation and motivation for joining the armed struggle, their experiences in leaving South Africa and training in exile, the crises in exile which limited their effectiveness for a time, their return to fight in South Africa, and their difficulties in the "new" South Africa. These materials reveal that vast problems remain facing these veterans of the struggle against apartheid, and that they have the potential, if properly supported and employed, to contribute substantially to the development of present day South Africa. Conversely, if their neglect continues, they also have the potential to bring vast harm to the country. Further use of the investigative tools of oral history, especially if extended to the former soldiers' vernacular languages, is necessary to augment the history of South Africa, and these soldiers' contributions
O sistema medico Waimiri-Atroari: concepções e praticas
Karl von den Steinen (1855 - 1929), a German ethnologist, undertook two expeditions to the Xingu region in the 1880s, having published his accounts of the region and its people in Germany in the late 19th century. In 1999 Karl von den Steinen\u27s grandson, professor of political economy and history of economic thought at the University of Frankfurt a. M., Bertram Schefold, came to Brazil for a series of lectures on the theory of capital in Rio de Janeiro and visited the Bakairí in Mato Grosso. There he met Vilinta, Antônio\u27s granddaughter, the indigenous Bakairí who guided Karl von den Steinen on his first expedition to the sources of the Xingu in 1884. The reunion between the descendants of the European and his Bakairí guide led to the elaboration of four projects, which were announced by Vilinta\u27s son, Estevan, in the sense of cultural appreciation. Among them, it was proposed that a Bakairí delegation visited the Ethnological Museum in Berlin. This paper is Bertram Schefold\u27s account of this trip, translated from German to Portuguese, in order to make it accessible to Portuguese-speaking readers and to contribute to the dissemination of the idea of the Bakairí trip to Berlin, which has not yet been carried out.
Redesign of preparatory higher professional bachelor curriculum facility management applying 4C-ID instructional design methodology.

Firm Heterogeneity and Choice of Ownership Structure: An Empirical Analysis of German FDI in India
We contribute to the literature on the heterogeneity of multinational enterprises (MNEs) and the relevance of firm characteristics for analyzing the determinants of outward foreign direct investment (FDI). The focus is on the role of firm-level heterogeneity when MNEs decide on the share of ownership in foreign affiliates. We combine two firm-specific datasets on German MNEs with varying equity stakes in Indian affiliates. The impact of firm characteristics on ownership shares is assessed in the context of OLS and fractional logit models, controlling for industry and location characteristics. We show that the effect of several characteristics differs between the establishment of new affiliates by German MNEs and their engagement in already existing Indian firms. Most notably, the productivity of the German parents matters only for ownership shares in new affiliates.multinational enterprises, firm characteristics, Indian locations, German FDI; ownership share
FDI liberalization, firm heterogeneity and foreign ownership: German firm decisions in reforming India
The paper investigates the role of firm-level productivity and industry-level R&D for MNEs' choice of undertaking FDI, and the share of ownership in foreign affiliates. Two firm-specific datasets on German MNEs with varying equity stakes in Indian affiliates are used to account for the two-step decision process. The paper also analyses how German firm decisions were affected by the liberalisation of FDI regulations in India. Results show remarkable differences between the selection and the ownership share equation, and also between the pre-reform and post-reform periods. The evidence clearly reveals the tradeoffs involved in selective FDI approvals and foreign ownership restrictions. --multinational enterprises, firm characteristics, selective FDI approval,German FDI,ownership share,Heckman model
The present dissertation is a study on the ceremonial of the Upper Xingu that integrates a review over the literature concerning this theme with an ethnographic experience among the Yawalapíti. The main object of its analysis is the ceremonial system of the Upper Xingu. This work aims at understanding the role of the music and of the musical ritual in the constitution of the multiethnic and multilingual system of the Upper Xingu - especially of the Yawalapíti - and in the formation of the Upper Xingu person. The objective is, through literature, through information obtained in the field, and through an ethnographic description of the tapanawanã, to comprehend how the ritual establishes, renews and articulates relationships, as well as how essential such relationships are to the establishment of the Upper Xingu as of an integrated system. The relationship that defines this research is the familiarization of the otherness, which is divided into human and nonhuman. The musical ritual is presented as a machine of familiarization of the otherness, creating a productive relationship and overriding the tension previously present. The concept of disease and kinship, besides the mythology and the music of tapanawanã, are the gateways to understand the relational processes of the Upper Xingu
Research at IWAWI of TU Berlin focuses on rock placement in coastal engineering and port construction. During research work it was found that objective and descriptive shape classification of rocks was needed. The introduced method utilizes three independent parameters: size referred to by volume, shape according to Zingg and roundness according to Diepenbroek or by the degree of shape deviation of the rock\u92s equivalent ellipsoid of inertia. This classification is visualized in a three dimensional parameter space. Underwater falling properties of natural rocks were object of a systematic experimental examination. These properties are associated with the parameter space. The digital visualization of the examined rocks and the experimental results on properties and motion are presented in a PC-based interactive information system RockDataBase. The user can query information on any rock by using RockDataBase as a modern form of comparison table to acquire shape properties, hydraulic properties and a visualization of its under water motion
