Notes on a paper of Pokhozhaev

    No full text
We prove a second order identity for the Kirchhoff equation which yields, in particular, a simple and direct proof of Pokhozhaev's second order conservation law when the nonlinearity has the special form (C1s+C2)2(C_1 s +C_2)^{-2}. As applications, we give: an estimate of order ε4\varepsilon^{-4} for the lifespan TεT_\varepsilon of the solution of the Cauchy problem with initial data of size ε\varepsilon in Sobolev spaces when the nonlinearity is given by any C2C^2 function m(s)>0m(s)>0; a necessary and sufficient condition for boundedness of a second order energy of the solutions.Comment: 7 page

This contribution aims to provide an overview of the published horse remains attested in Northern Italy from the ancient Bronze Age to Romanization. As is known, the horse played a significant role in ancient societies. However, there is a lack of updated synthesis work that analyses the zooarchaeological and cultural-historical aspects of protohistoric horses in Northern Italy. Given this background, the objectives of the intervention are primarily threefold: to identify one or more possible directions through which the horse was introduced to Northern Italy, also confirming, if possible, the hypotheses published so far regarding the chronology of its introduction; to understand its socio-economic and ideological implications; to carry out an estimation of the size variations of horses from the examined sites in an attempt to distinguish possible differences and/or affinities between different geographical and cultural compartments over time. The first step of the research involved data collection, which allowed the creation of a database, functional for the subsequent elaboration of distribution maps (GIS) of horse remains in the examined area. The study then continued with the analysis of withers heights, assuming those not known through osteometric comparisons of selected anatomical elements. The results obtained make it possible, albeit with caution due to the state of the findings, to outline an updated overview of the presence of the horse in Northern Italy from various points of view

Middle triassic ammonoid fauna from the recoaro and tretto areas (NE Italy) and its stratigraphic and paleobiogeographic evidence

Between the mid 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, several Austrian and German geologists such as Beyrich, Mojsisovics and Tornquist, studied the geology of the Recoaro area (NE Italy). They described important ammonoid faunas, the majority being collected from a stratigraphic unit known as the Nodosus Formation. Among these faunas are problematic species that have been the focus of long discussion both from a biostratigraphic and taxonomic point of view. Unfortunately, most of the historical material has been either destroyed or lost, and recent studies in the field provided only a few scarce specimens thus making taxonomic revision difficult. One of the unresolved issues is related to the possible occurrence of the ceratitids peculiar to the Upper Muschelkalk of the Central Europa (Germanic) Basin and the Sephardic Triassic province among the Alpine ammonoids. An unexpected discovery of an old ammonoid collection stored at the Museo Geologico e Paleontologico of Padova University (MGP-PD) permitted confirmation of the presence of a distinctive ammonoid species Alloceratites tornquisti (Philippi) within the Triassic Recoaro domain. Two other species of Alloceratites have also been found in the Val Gola section near Trento. These occurrences are significant taxonomically, biostratigraphically and in relation to Middle Triassic sequence stratigraphy

I manufatti in materia dura animale

The Chapter summarises the information regarding artefacts made from animal hard material, the semi-finished finds and the associated processing scraps, some of which are compatible with the technical metallurgical context under investigation (e.g. as knife handles). We present a total of 26 finds from the P.ET.R.A. excavations, plus a further 10 artefacts found during the micro-excavation of the block in the workshop, accompanied by a series of minor (less than 5 cm) processing waste pieces, some of which appear to be the result of modular cutting operations. Most of the processed remains are made of deer antler. Bony cavicles of goat and cattle and post-cranial elements of cattle and horse are also present as raw materials
