Peeping Winkle, 11minute stop-motion film. Research Background: My Doctoral research is situated in the field of independent stop-motion animation with focus directed at material considerations enhanced by digital post-production refinements. In response to the research question: How can the material requirements of stop-motion puppet animation production be balanced with the affordances of digital effects and processes in order to best exploit the unique attributes of the technique?, a unified facial mechanism for stop-motion puppets was sought that combined haptic mechanisms with CGI generated 3D printed mouth replacements, and scope for composited eye enhancements. Research Contribution: My research has led to the creation of a unique hybrid facial animation method which incorporates traditional stop-motion fabrication processes of internal armature animator-controlled points skinned in foam latex, 3D printed mouth replacements with plasticine tongues, and realistic eye texture compositing. This unique combination of material fabrication and digitally-produced assets and composited techniques synthesizes the imperfections and textural appeal of traditional stop-motion with the expressive advantages of digital post-production techniques. Research Significance: The research output, an 11 minute stop-motion animation Peeping Winkle, showcases the hybrid facial animation method through its puppets. The success of this method in dialogue and facial expression, and ultimately audience appeal, is evidenced in the film festival accolades: Best Film at the Sydney Short Film Festival 2019, Best Stop-Motion Film & Best International Student Film at the Dingle Animation Film Festival Ireland, and nominee for an Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) Award November 2019.No Full Tex

RNDr. Vanda Boštíková, Ph.D. Diplomová práce Fakulta sociálních věd Univerzity Karlovy, Katedra bezpečnostních studií Praha 2023 Abstrakt Pandemie SARS-Cov-2 poukázala na křehkost dodavatelských řetězců ve farmaceutickém průmyslu. První výzkumná otázka této práce se týká umístění výrobních kapacit vybraných kritických léků. Léky byly vybrány na základě zdravotního stavu obyvatelstva a prevalence častých onemocnění. Druhá výzkumná otázka se týká připravenosti bezpečnostního systému na narušení dodávek léčiv velkého rozsahu. V práci autor čerpal z expertních rozhovorů a z otevřených zdrojů. Thesis title: Availability of critical medicines in the Czech Republic - dependence and resilience of supply chains Author: Jakub Linhart Thesis supervisor: prof. RNDr. Vanda Boštíková, Ph.D. Master thesis Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, Department of Security Studies Department of Security Studies, Faculty of Security Studies, Charles University Prague 2023 Abstract The SARS-Cov-2 pandemic has highlighted the fragility of supply chains in the pharmaceutical industry. The first research question of this thesis concerns the location of manufacturing capacity for selected critical drugs. The drugs were selected based on the health status of the population and the prevalence of common diseases. The second research question concerns the preparedness of the security system for large-scale disruptions in the supply of pharmaceuticals. In this paper, the author drew on expert interviews and open sources. Another key source was data provided by the State Institute for Drug Control and the Institute of Population Protection of Lázně Bohdaneč. The results of the thesis indicate a substantial Indian and Chinese production for the selected critical drugs, with significant differences between the drugs. Based on the results of the thesis, the author found shortcomings in crisis preparedness for the...Katedra bezpečnostních studiíDepartment of Security StudiesFakulta sociálních vědFaculty of Social Science

Linhart, T: The borderline and the relationship to its surroundings. [Diploma thesis] Praha 2015 Charles University, Faculty of Education, Department of Art Education, 71 p. (Attachments on CD: 2 illustration attachments). The diploma thesis features a theoretical study on the background of the author's own artwork. The text interprets the borderline as a horizon that would emerge and vanish. It presents the author's own artistic grasp of the theme in context of selected trends in fine arts. Author seeks to define the boundary of fine arts and art education to establish a foundation to his own pedagogic determination. He shows what theoretical frameworks take part on shaping his own professional direction. The didactic part looks at select situations from the author's teaching practice that already took place and reflects them in context of author's other pedagogic experience. The accomplishment and utility of the work lie in a description and interpretation of select situations from practice of a fledgling teacher and an educational complex, field tested, intended for gymnasium students

Structure and change in herbaceous communities of four ecosystems in the Front Range, Colorado, U.S.A.

    No full text
The structure of four herbaceous communities located in lower montane (2200 m), upper montane (2600 m), subalpine (3050 m), and alpine (3750 m) zones in the Front Range, Colorado, in 1981 was compared with that in 1953 when these same areas had been studied previously. Plant communities were compared primarily on the basis of number of species, species composition, species frequency, and community diversity. The herbaceous community at 2200 m had changed significantly since 1953 in frequencies and composition of species. The change is associated with a considerable disturbance of the tree canopy. The herbaceous community at 2600 m had remained relatively stable despite some moderate changes in the tree canopy. The herbaceous community at 3050 m was less diverse in 1981 than in 1953. The differences are associated with (1) successional changes in the overstory at this location and (2) the likelihood that somewhat different areas were studied in the 2 yr. The herbaceous community at 3750 m had shown remarkably little change in composition or relative abundances of species between 1953 and 1981. The diversity of the herbaceous community at 2200 m in 1981 was significantly lower than the diversities of the communities at the other three elevations, possibly because this community is in an earlier successional stage due to recent disturbances. The herbaceous communities at 2200 and 2600 m had many species in common, but there were differences in frequencies of individual species. There was little overlap in species composition among the other communities. At all elevations, the distribution of the species over frequency classes was quite similar for the herbaceous communities in 1953 and 1981, even when there were large differences in species composition between these dates. At the lower three elevations many species were present in low frequencies, and few species were common, while at 3750 m many species were common or abundant. Patterns of species abundance and estimates of species diversity did not coincide with each other across the four habitats

Advances in accelerometry for cardiovascular patients: a systematic review with practical recommendations

    No full text
Aims: Accelerometers are becoming increasingly commonplace for assessing physical activity; however, their use in patients with cardiovascular diseases is relatively substandard. We aimed to systematically review the methods used for collecting and processing accelerometer data in cardiology, using the example of heart failure, and to provide practical recommendations on how to improve objective physical activity assessment in patients with cardiovascular diseases by using accelerometers. Methods and results: Four electronic databases were searched up to September 2019 for observational, interventional, and validation studies using accelerometers to assess physical activity in patients with heart failure. Study and population characteristics, details of accelerometry data collection and processing, and description of physical activity metrics were extracted from the eligible studies and synthesized. To assess the quality and completeness of accelerometer reporting, the studies were scored using 12 items on data collection and processing, such as the placement of accelerometer, days of data collected, and criteria for non-wear of the accelerometer. In 60 eligible studies with 3500 patients (of those, 536 were heart failure with preserved ejection fraction patients), a wide variety of accelerometer brands (n = 27) and models (n = 46) were used, with Actigraph being the most frequent (n = 12), followed by Fitbit (n = 5). The accelerometer was usually worn on the hip (n = 32), and the most prevalent wear period was 7 days (n = 22). The median wear time required for a valid day was 600 min, and between two and five valid days was required for a patient to be included in the analysis. The most common measures of physical activity were steps (n = 20), activity counts (n = 15), and time spent in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (n = 14). Only three studies validated accelerometers in a heart failure population, showing that their accuracy deteriorates at slower speeds. Studies failed to report between one and six (median 4) of the 12 scored items, with non-wear time criteria and valid day definition being the most underreported items. Conclusions: The use of accelerometers in cardiology lacks consistency and reporting on data collection, and processing methods need to be improved. Furthermore, calculating metrics based on raw acceleration and machine learning techniques is lacking, opening the opportunity for future exploration. Therefore, we encourage researchers and clinicians to improve the quality and transparency of data collection and processing by following our proposed practical recommendations for using accelerometers in patients with cardiovascular diseases, which are outlined in the article

Příspěvek se zaměřuje na některé příznačné okolnosti vzniku a inscenace Kreftových Krajnských komedijantů jako gesto kanonizace, kterým se autor pokoušel přehodnotit Linhartovu roli ve slovinské literární historii. Téměř o třicet let pozdější dílo Mirka Zupančiče Iz takšne smo snovi kot kranjski komedijanti, které čerpá z Linhartova díla Matiček a Kreftových Komedijantů, už vykazuje jiné autorovy záměry.This article sheds light on significant circumstances of the genesis and the performance of Kreft\u27s play Krajnski komedijanti as the canonization act that was supposed to reevaluate Linhart\u27s role in Slovenian literary history. Nearly thirty years younger play of Mirko Zupančič entitled Iz takšne smo snovi kot kranjski komedijanti is intertextually connected to Linhart\u27s play Matiček se ženi and Kreft\u27s Krajnski komedijanti, but already displays different intentions of the author
