Regulatory Competition in Europe after Laval
No full textThis paper considers the implications for regulatory competition of the recent judgment of the European Court of Justice in Laval. This case is potentially the most important decision on European labour law for a generation. The Court has greatly extended the scope for judicial review of state-level labour laws on the grounds that they restrict freedom of movement from one member state to another. It has also undermined the principle of the territorial effect of labour legislation and has given a strictly pre-emptive interpretation to social policy directives. The Laval judgment is, however, open to attack on a number of grounds. It fails to mount a coherent economic case for judicial intervention on the scale envisaged, and is, more generally, incompatible with the recent experimentalist or reflexive turn in European governance represented by the open method of coordination.regulatory competition, experimentalism, labour law, free movement of workers, Laval case

Laval is professor of sociology at the Paris Nanterre University (France) and often contributes to newspapers in France and elsewhere analyzing political issues and social movements. No full textAlfa Laval U-turn™ is an ammonia separator manufactured by Meccom Klippan AB in Klippan. The separator mostly consists of pipes and pipe parts welded together to a device which is mounted on a plate heat exchanger. Alfa Laval U-turn™ is manufactured in different models, such as different sizes or a left/right mounting on the plate heat exchangers. In the following report a concept is created for a fixture that can fixate parts for stapling a part of the ammonia separator. The part of the Alfa Laval U-turn™ that the fixture can be used for is called the oil trough.
The oil troughs geometry and its parts have been analysed to find appropriate parts to start with. The method is based on literature regarding welding and designing fixtures for welding. The placement and orientation of the oil trough was decided and supports were placed to hold and locate its parts correctly. Smaller prototypes were manufactured to verify the design, choice of material thickness, manufacturing technique and tolerances.
The work has resulted in a final concept. The concept consists of a CAD-model designed to be cut out by laser at Meccom. The mounting of the final concept is based on previously manufactured fixtures by Meccom and prototypes. The fixture can be used for different designs on the same model. Templates for marking of drill holes is integrated into the fixture to simplify and streamline the manufacturing of the oil trough.
The final concept is created with the idea of keeping the manufacturing simple and minimise the risk of errors. The concept consists of very few loose parts and the design of the parts is designed to not be confused and mounted in the wrong plac
